Has anyone quit hockey for skiing?

I did this year and my dad is so pissed. The article is sbc skier got me thinking. My dad was always one who wanted me to be in the NHL, and so did i but a couple years ago hockey just changed i guess. I was always one of the better players on the team but theres just something about skiing that dragged me away from hockey. I am by no means a great skier, ive only been skiing for 2 years. But maybe thats something i like about hockey, you dont have to be the best, but you can still have a great time. I also hated how you HAD to play hockey, you had to go practice you had to go to the games. For skiing, i can decide if i want to go out this day. I can pick my runs, pick if i want to do park, glades, powder and nobody can tell me what i can and cannot do.

i did. the year I moved to a mountain town i learned to ski. I also started the hockey season that year, but becasue I was pretty small for my age, I got thoroughly dominated myfirst two games. I quit and skiied everyday.

I quit playing in winter leagues last year to ski because we had games most saturdays during the winter and practices 3-4 days a week. Thats 5-6 days of hockey a week. How the hell am I supposed to ski? I still play a lot of hockey during the spring and summer, but its not as hardcore as the winter season. So... I have been able to find a balance between hockey and skiing.

This is Durk.

im not quitting hockey until im out of highschool. then i hope to ski a lot more then because i like hockey

I used to play AAA in Quebec, but instead of all out quitting I'm just playing single letters now, so there's barely a commitment time wise.

hahaha

sasha did!

she was on the boys team, but quit for skiing when she couldnt even put on her bindings. but she knows how to put on her bindings now.

i quit for skiing a few years ago because i was so small and scrawny for my age that i would just get enihilated every game, that and it got too competitive for my liking.

It's true. I played ringette and hockey and my parents were sooo pumped on it.

I played on the B ringette team (lower level) with all my friends but the A team (higher level) wanted to recruit me. I didn't want to leave cause I was having alot of fun with my friends playing lame ringette and I wasn't up for being all competative in it.. in the end, my mom bribed me to leave my team with a pair of skis.

That's when I aquired my very own 2005 K2 Public enemies!

I quit ringette and hockey and the end of that season and my parents weren't very happy, but I think they're finally proud of me now haha.

i quit hockey when i was 8 adn left it to go skiing cuz my daddy made me and i am so happy he did!

Because hockey and skiing each take up alot (almost all) of a person's time.. that is, if you're skiing competatively.

For the few months that I was skiing and playing hockey at the same time I would always always find that practises/games (hockey) interfered with competitions and training (skiing).

yea i actually chose not to play in a canadien leauge so that i could ski more...the canadien leauge takes up alot of ur time so...but they let me play in the mens leauge here in my town so i still get SOME ice time...both are great sports...but i like skiing more

this is why i play rugby. club season is in teh autumn and school season is in the spring. and i can ski (and work) all winter and train in the summer :D

I quit hockey for skiing but I still play in a league with guy's it more fun. hockey was gettin rediculous when kids were crying when we lost I was just there to have fun but apparently everyone else wasn't so I got out of that

i was an ice hockey goalie for 7 years.. and then my buddy got really involved into skiing.. and told me i should check it out, so i did, i loved it, and was out 52 times last season.. soo.. i did exactly that.. i quit hockey to ski..

the way i see it, i would rather nut myself on a rail when i have full control in the situation, vs. having no control in having a rubber puck slapshotted at my balls.

It's pretty tough to be good at both skiing and hockey. Hockey and skiing require so much time and money. I gave up hockey and other sports for the freedom of skiing! I still play pick up hockey and sometimes I will even join an old farts leauge every now and again.

hockey is just like every other team sport......lots of rules, and there is just no real comunity. I think skiing as a whole....we are a very tight knit community. You can just show up to a random hill that you never rode before and just make friends.

i quit hockey for snowboarding. this season is gonna be epic. hockey is fun and all but snowboiarding is just more fun and not many of my friends played hockey. my family and exteneded family are like known in our town for eing hockey players. its so awkward when they ask what team im on and i say im not playing. it seems like they think i gave up hockey for crack or something haha

i do both, but skiing is the reason i didnt move away to play in the juniors. i still do both, just not as much hockey.

i quit hockey for skiing, i played hockey for 11 years and then i just had enough so i quit and now i ski all the time. its so much better hockey takes up to much time.

i quit hockey for so i could ski more and sometimes i wish i still played but skiing is way more fun

I quit judo for skiing. Although it would have been cool if I was still doing judo because I'd probably have my brown belt by now.

i quit hockey this year for skiing, well its not really, really for skiing but I playing competetive soccer and we train all year long (3 times a week in winter), and ya my body cant take hockey, soccer, and skiing all at the same time...my knees are like bleh

i quit hockey two or three years ago because i couldnt ski every weekend during the winter and i dont regret my decision one bit

This isnt exactly the same but I quit basketball after sophmore year in high school for skiing and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not because I quit anything and not necessarily because I got to ski more, it was just very refreshing to be doing something I enjoyed as opposed to doing something because my parents or anyone else wanted me to. I'm sure you won't regret your decision, because if you truly loved hockey then you wouldn't have quit. It's not worth all the time, effort, money, and pain to keep playing a sport that you can't be passionate about.

i quit playin Hockey at 16 due to costs.... $1000 bucks a year for icetime... $$$$$$$ for traveling...$$$$ for new gear every year.... skiing is way better.... no asshole coach yelling at you making you skate your ass off till you puke... etc.....

freeriding = freedom....

that is all

i quit hockey before highschool. i injured my knee skiing at the end of the season and couldn't play the next season of hockey. so i started skiing instead because my parents are big into skiing. i was usually on the more average teams and knew i wasn't going anywere because i was shorter than all of the kids on the upper levels. the only thing i miss about hockey are the freinds you meet on your team.

ahh shit man i know exactly wut ur talkin about ive played since i was 4 then goalie for the last 10 years, but last year i quit for skiing. parents werent so happy about it but i was too sick of the politics involved, skiing was something new and fun ya know. kinda wish i still played tho just for fun, but wayyyyy to expensive to get back into now considering i sold all my shit
