Has anyone had meningitis?

My girlfriend might have it but she doesn't want to go to the ER...stupid I know. If you could answer these questions it might help a little...

What were your symptoms? How severe were they?
 
I had it when I was a little kid.

uhh...you can die from it (depending on if its bacterial or viral). so she should probably go to the ER.
 
Meningitis is the bacterial infection that can send you from fever to the ER in the same day. If there is ANY chance she has meningitis, GET HER TO THE HOSPITAL NOW. Literally, get of the internet now, and take her to the ER.
 
Ya I'm trying, except I'm at school and she is an hour and a half away. And shes fucking stubborn and thinks she is just paranoid.

Has anyone actually had it that can tell me what their symptoms were like? More importantly, did you have neck pain and what was its severity?
 
off the top of my head the symptoms are like stiff neck is a big one, headache, fever, nausea, and i think seizures happen but im not sure. what makes her think she has it, and most children get meningitis shots
 
in 8th grade one of my best friends died from meningitis. one day he was complaining about a headache the next day he died
 
She said she never got the shot, but shes in college so she probably did.

She said that she has a really bad headache and a really stiff neck, possibly a fever. Maybe a little nauscious. I know it's all the classic signs but I don't know if I can convince her to go to the ER. Kinda freakin out a bit.
 
my roomate had it when he was real young, and he said it was so all of a sudden he was just playing at the park feeling normal and all of a sudden fell to the ground with the worst headache of his life and he had to stay in the hospital for weeks and said the pain was so bad he would have rather died.
 
yeah my friend had it went to the hospital with a fever and headache said he was fine went home 5 hours later woke up delusional rushed to the hospital and went straight in to surgery to relieve pressure. He was in coma for the next week and they thought he was gonna die for the whole week. GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND GO NOW DONT PLAY WITH SHIT ITS SERIOUS DUDE
 
well there's two types...the viral and the bacterial ....viral will just have you sick for about 2 weeks, i had it once and it's not fun, and the bacterial....... people die ..like you arent able to talk cause your too tired and i mean like you just don't talk and you have a high fever and pains in the back of the head and spinal cord and your eyes are extremly sesitive to light and fuckin hurt like no other (also happens in the viral) and people just lay down to sleep and don't ever wake up..but id take to the hospital right away..if she seems somewhat lively and talkin i doubt she has the bacterial
 
Call up her mom, or her best friend, whoever, just make sure she gets to the hospital soon. When you're dealing with meningitis, you have to be paranoid.
 
This was exactly what I was going to say right before I got to the bottom of the thread. Call up her friends and they will force her to go if they aren't dumb. And if it comes to it call her mom. Not worth her being dead. Who cares if she gets pissed?
 
Ya she won't listen to me. She won't go tonight and I can't do anything about it. She said she will go to the doc tomorrow if she doesn't feel better by tomorrow at 8am.

Fucking christ this is frustrating me.
 
no offense but if your girlfriend think she has menegitis and wont go to the hospital/do anyhting shes fucking stupid. if possible call one of her friends and have them watch/stay with her and make sure nothing happens, and if she does feel bad have them force her to go to the hospital/doc. shit sounds serious, glad i never had it.

if she can't move her neck and she has "the worst" headache she ever has had get over there now

there is two kinds, viral and bacterial. Bacterial is the serious one. I had viral meningitis when I was younger and I had to go to the hospital and get a needle stuck in my spine to make sure it wasnt the bacterial kind. But it started out like evryone is mentioning you get a reaaaaaally bad headache and start feeling dizzy.

you definatley might want to think of kidnapping your girl and dragging her to the ER
 
my friends dad died from it. went to the hospital and 2 weeks later he was dead. but this very rarely happens.
 
this isn't anything to fuck around with, get her to a ER now, a girl at my school a few years ago went to bed with kind of a bad headache and died in her sleep from meningitis, it's fucking nasty, your gf could easily die, tell her that. if she wants to live she should go to the fucking ER, it's that simple
 
I hate to be redundant but..... GET HER TO A FUCKING HOSPITAL!!!!!!!!!! If this is bacterial she will DIE from it. Ask her if she loves you. If she says yes, than tell her she's a liar because if she actually loved you she would want to get this checked out to make sure she's alright.
 
Ya she wouldn't go. Seeing as I'm an hour and a half away I couldn't do much, despite spending forever trying to convince her. She said her symptoms got alot better as the night went on, so if that's true then I doubt it's meningitis. I talked to her this morning and she said she feels pretty much fine.

I still think she should have went and was being stupid not going but if she is feeling alot better than chances are it was something else. Fingers crossed I guess.
 
Oh for sure. She just wouldn't understand how serious it is, she gets so stubborn sometimes. Ahhh part of me is relieved obviously but I'm also pretty pissed at her for being so ignorant.
 
you better not read this because you should have listened to everyone else and be in the hospital with her by now
 
I had a small reaction to the shot. I felt like dieing. My heart felt liike it was gonna explode and i didnt sleep for 3 days
 
are her parents aware of this? i know you're her bf and everything, but it might take a little more push to get her checked out. her being stubborn may be a bad sign. too tired and sick to get up and go to the doctor. nothing good about that situation. best of luck man
 
yeah the shot fucking sucks, it hurts like a bitch and my arm was dead for 2 days, i could barely move it and i felt super sick and weak for a few days after
