Most of you who have 40 gigs are using 256k or higher compression I would guess. If not, my other guess is that you dont listen to half of it more than once in a year.
You dont realize that higher bit rates = shitty battery life. At 256k you get half as much music (although higher quality) in the cache memory, meaning the hard drive has to spin twice as often as it would at 128k or four times as often as 64k. If battery life isnt an issue, though, more power to you. I'm an audiophile as well; I cannot stand shitty quality music. I know this sounds bitchy but anything under 128 is shit to listen to. What I've done with mine is made a shit quality section and a good quality section for times when I need to conserve battery and when I need some huge bass. It's your choice, tho.
