Are there any skis with waists less than ~80mm these days, besides Line and the TM? It seems like everything is getting shorter and fatter, which doesn't leave us non-BC/non-pow skiiers much of a choice.

If anyone is wondering why I am discounting Line's skis and the TM, it's because I'm still riding on my old Dragons (193) and am rather tall (6'4' @ 195lbs).

For that matter, are there any good freeride skis for speed junkies, or am I stuck looking at a quiver (which I cannot afford)?

well think about it this way, a wider base equals a more stable landing, umm the line darksides are less than 80 at the waist other than that i think most twins have moved to 80 mm

Though you lose stability by going to a shorter ski, you regain most of it by getting a slightly fatter one. You could try a Scratch BC in 188, The R by DB skis in 188 (expensive,but then you'll never buy another pair of skis again), or wait around for a bit, and hit up www.priorskis.com when it launches. I don't know much about prior, other than that their snowboards are killer and the skis look really cool, but the prices will be Canadian so you'll be able to afford a pair. And if you ask nicely(and pay a little extra), I'm sure they'll help you out length/width wise.

Question for you: Everytime I check specs on tele-specific skis, it seems that they are longer/narrower(99% of the time). What accounts for that, different technique?

Hey Jib-this, part of it is technique, but a big part of it also is the prevailing attitudes and styles in telemark skiing, and just simply tradition. I'd say there just hasn't been a push for any bigger of a ski, and if a telewhacker needs one, he just grabs an alpine board. So many of the tele skis out there are just repackaged alpine skis anyhow...
