Hardest questions to ask a religious person

I was gonna post this, but then I thought it might be just a little bit over the line. I appreciate your bold approach to Newschoolers.

figure I'd just put this in here.

To the pastor reading this feel free to use it whenever.

what made you decide on devoting your life to christianity after reviewing every other religion? Assuming you wouldn't just blindly sign your life over to a religion without seeing the other options first.

chances are he'll be christian because it made up the majority of religion around him growing up.

faith..

thats all i can say, no religion can be proved you just have to have faith...if life and everything is a coincidence...then i win nothing but knowing i tried my best in life and did the best i could....sooo yah faith

the greatest thing is, dear NickSki.$, I have gone through Catholic school most of my life. My grandpa's brother is a priest, and I am a usual Eucharistic minister at mass on Sundays...Saturday nights when I want to go skiing on Sundays. I have faith in God and the goodness of people and the republic of NS. I just like to question my faith and other peoples by asking questions (like the OP originally posted)....oh and getting Catholics bashing on atheists like that post you just did. Good job NickSki.$

you could believe in logic? you know what most people believe in if they don't believe in some magical being in which only exists through literature written by men over many centuries ago through many languages...

have fun believing in stories written by men that have been mistranslated throughout countless reprints... and you know, that's if they didn't make it all up in the first place...

Let it be known

im not catholic haha

but hey respect, i question my faith a ton too, cause then i learn new perspectives and other reasons of the religion which makes my faith stronger.

+k

plus i dont think anyone should bash any religion even if it is completely negative and they worship and sacrifice and stuff. thats ok but we're not other people all we can do is suggest and pray cause...we're not god

after which every time he says something you have to do that you disagree with you quote him on "dont take it so literally"

I'm with you there. That is why I like having civilized conversations with my athiest/agnostic friends. Their questions make me question myself, and reinforce my faith.

ask him which parts of the bible are to be believed to the letter, and which ones could be read as stories about morality.

you can get a lot of religious people to trip over themselves trying to explain why genesis is just a story but the resurrection was a true event.

"isn't the idea of making nature illegal a little paranoid? that's like saying God made a mistake"

with reference to legalization of marijuana/ethneogenic substances

A lot of athiests hate self righteous religious people, but self righteous athiests are just as annoying, if not more annoying.

How can one justify the presence of artifacts older than the earth itself (in reference to the christian belief that the earth is only approx. 6,000 yrs old)

well theres actually proof or this like expanding universe and left over radiation just to name a few. but 7 days, a invisible man, and bones "planted" in the ground seems muuuuch more reasonable (sarcasm)

ask him if, given the chance to travel back in time, would he murder hitler before his rise to power, knowing that Hitler will go on to cause the death of countless people

i think this is one of the most baffling ethical conundrums out there. Really makes me scratch my head.

How will you feel when the Pope makes the troll face and tells you it was a lie all along?

Who the fuck uses those bibles in hotels?

Isn't missionary work a smooth phrase for "whatever you're doing or worshiping is false now follow what we say or be terminated"?

If a so called "God" created the Earth, then why did so many other folklore stories create the Earth too?

do you deny the fact that Jesus existed? Many say he walked the earth but was only a good man, I feel the only choices are believing Jesus is Lord, or believing he was only a good man. If you say he never existed you are just plain ignorant.

There is actually a pretty good sermon I saw once that reinforced this. Called "Who is Jesus"

I am not a religious person in any way and I am all over the board as far as what to believe. Which brings a point up, organized religion is flawed in its nature. Being a Christian isnt really about religious activities, its more about a relationship with God (if you believe in him).

But to each their own, no one person is stupid for what they believe, because it is what they believe NOT what you believe. Do/believe what makes you happy!

“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”- Stephen Roberts

So I guess I would ask, why is your religion right? Why should I believe this and not Buddhism or another type of Christianity?
