Hardcore Appreciation

haha TUI is super fun live, Ive seen them around 6 times now. But you've got to love Terror shows, and Scott Vogels Sayings

I wanna see all you motherfuckers come up to the front and sing along. this ones called Keep Your Distance.

I wanna see some stage dives... Stage dive off this monitor, off the drum monitor, off this kids face, off that light, more stage dives!

Closest thing to hardcore I've ever listened to is bury your dead, I don't really see any difference between hardcore and metalcore.

Damn, some really solid content in this thread i was not expecting that! I feel like i need to comment on all of this. Polar Bear Club is one of my favorite bands ever (with an exception of their newest album), strike anywhere is pure gold. watch me rise by have hear is definitely one of my favorite songs ever. LOVE TUI ive been binging on them constantly of late.
Also, OP i noticed you posted xibalba, you listen to incendiary? they put out a split together both those bands are really sick.
Heres my contribution:/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

Yeah, they are sick, and pretty good live as well. Listen to any old hardcore, such as Blood for Blood, Cro-Mags, or Warzone?

why is this not here?

but seriously. it made me think of this video, when i saw this one, and i shook my head.(i thought it was awful)

i think im also confused between hardcore and metalcore. but primarlily i think hardcore belongs more to the punk world than the metal world. i find it a blurry line. i just dont know why, i dont get music categories anymore these days.

but this will never get old

i guess i can see the difference between genres

vocals aside, the metal core music is IMO considerably better than hardcore. The hardcore guitar and drums just doesn't really have enough substance for it to be enjoyable, hence why I got passed the screaming of metal core because the quality of music was higher. I also don't know what you listen to that is generally just pig screams, because plenty of the metal core that I listen to I can understand what they're saying

You're an idiot. Skinheads are a small subculture that are not accepted by the overwhelming majority of punks/hardcore kids

This Way Out was their more hardcore album I think, but ya definitely not nearly as gnar as some of the bands posted

As long as the hardcore dancers stay away from my death metal/ deathcore/ prog / djent (I hate using that term) shows then I will not complain. I seriously cannot stand that shit.

And +1 on the Whitechapel and BTBAM. I however hope that you did not label BTBAM as a "core" band. They are one of the most progressive and technical metal bands out right now.

You're an idiot, the vast majority of early hardcore are skinheads, and this includes punks.

However, I believe your referring to the Nazi/Racist (bone)skinheads... In which I then agree. Please refer to them as Nazis/neonazis/boneheads.

Oh man. Not BMTH. I will not really hate on bands that much, but these guys are just bad. Every scene kid listens to them - its not even about the music (and that is almost a good thing). Even their first album, which was almost deathcore, was barely tolerable.

I love My First Hardcore Song.

Also, no BMTH please. There are major differences between Hardcore and Shitcore.

BMTHs first album wasnt half bad, I really enjoyed For Stevie Wonders Eyes Only, but lately, this whole fake brokenhearted/emotional shit they have been doing is a definite No Go. Along with Oli fucking his vocals up a year or 2 ago, they just blow, esp live. Along with Chelsea Grin.

Chelsea Grin isn't hardcore though. I don't like being a genre nazi, but Deathcore and hardcore are VERY different.

Deathcore = Whitechapel, All Shall Perish, Winds of Plague, The Red Chord, Suicide Silence, etc.

This genre is essentially mixing the breakdowns and feel of hardcore with the vocals and (sometimes) speed of Death metal.

Hardcore = well to be honest I don't really know much about hardcore bands, but I do know the style. Hatebreed i guess? I like them.

i think metal and country are the only 2 genres that i really cant stand listening too... and i have a really wide taste in music

Oh I know that Chelsea Grin isnt Hardcore whatsoever, simply using them as a example of another metalcore/experimental artist that totally shredded their vocals, and screwed it up

You essentially got the definition of Deathcore, having more screaming usually, combined with technical playing.

Because you also have Genres like Power Violence, which plays extremley fast, along with Punk, but are not Deathcore.

Example: Nails.

You've also have Hardcore Punk, which is essentially the same as Hardcore, but kept more of that Punk influence

With Hardcore, wikipedia defines it as- Hardcore is generally faster, thicker, and heavier than earlier punk rock. 1. (Music, other) a style of rock music characterized by short fast numbers with minimal melody and aggressive delivery.

When it comes to genres when comparing things such as death/metal/djent I'm a total Nazi... Hatebreed is essentially hardcore

But anyways, heres some more music.

RIP Ray..

Some Hardstyle Hardcore.

Last, and not least, gotta have some StraightEdge Hardcore from one of the hardest labels out there.

I can see what you mean there, but I dont really care about the technicality of the guitar playing, especially since I do not play any sort of instrument. Just something about the scene, and the brotherhood drew me in from the start, and I never turned away.

I didnt mean that all bands do pig squeals, and whatnot, just that after I grew up a bit more, and developed different taste, I began to move away from the more screamo/metalcore genre. Just not a huge fan of the vocals, and fashion before passion shit.

I still goto some metalcore shows, and enjoy them, just not my main thing you know?

I mean shit, I love Emotional Hardcore, Shoeglaze, Depressive Post Black-Metal, and etc, just got over the mainstream metalcore that is around nowadays.

Comeback Kid has to be my most favorite band ever and put on the best live show I have seen!!!!!

I cant even begin to describe my love for this band, and ESPECIALLY that song. Ive seen them 8 times, and at one point drove 6 hours for their show, even though I had work in the morning. Red Bull saved me.

They are my band that I know every thing about. I know how every song goes, and I can play the drums to 90% of their stuff. When I went to their show I was lucky enough to get the set list and the drumstick from the drummer. Best fucking night of my life.

I seriously believe that Comeback Kid is the backbone to what modern hardcore is today. They are the most purest form.

Right. I wouldn't say deathcore necessarily has more technical playing though - there are enough bands that just play standard drop tuned power chords with a bunch of breakdowns (*ahem* Emmure). Also deathcore tends to have a lot of low growls rather than screams (hence the "death" part).

These are really just useless details though. I usually do not like to analyze bands this much just to label them as something.

Some decent songs there by the way. Not exactly my cup of tea though.

Oh dub post. Anyboady who likes prog, crazy time signatures, dissonance, and ridiculous tempo changes needs to listen to some Dillinger Escape Plan:

And their insane live shows:

They are on my list of bands to see live sometime in my life. It would be INSANE.

And Misery Signals are worth checking out too. I won't spam with vids though.

I'm liking this thread so far. Saw ABR last month two nights in a row with my buddy in Auckland then near where I live in Wellington with a 9 hour drive each way and sleeping in the car. One of my best weekends ever. We don't get many major gigs over here in New Zealand so any chance that we get we have to go for it no matter how far away the gig is. Here's some contributions from me.

I heard these guys just got back together.

These guys are just a bunch of surfers from ozzy. They have a documentary video which is well worth watching.

I've played these guys almost every day since I found them half a year ago and I'm not getting bored yet.

Annoying that this version is censored, but oh well.

maaaaan, mad jealous!

they did 2 secret shows here in sweden before they took off to the US, I missed both of them because I was busy doing other stuff.. when I think about it, how can anything ever be more important than Refused?
