yeah ive always used either.

people would harass me and say one or the other is not a word!

i think that is incorrect. you said hanged by the neck so its a person being hanged by the neck in a physical sense.

if you said "the man was hanged for treason" it is different

i could be wrong tho
 
i disagree

you are to be hanged sounds much better then

you are about to be hung

but saddam was hanged just sounds rediculous
