Hands down best overall skier in the world??

you have to say it's tanner hall.he won everything that could be won in this sport, hes making best ski movies and really sick skier.if not tanner hall than seth morrison.

same person that popped into my heads as soon as i read the title...not best overall though, he cant beat pollard in the BC guaranteed

Uh, you mean the Freeride WORLD Tour. The other "world tour" is actually just the north american one. the best north american comp skiers are on the FWT- cody and drew. America is not a planet people.

And yeah, Henrik won it in his debut year which is pretty ridiculous.

To the question:

A) It's a retarded question that has been asked a million times already and still never produces an answer.

B) It's probably Tanner, but only based on NS 'best skier' criteria. TGR would probably say Hugo Harrison or similar.

C) How many times do you have to be wrong and still not learn? I can't believe there are still people talking shit about Jon's big mtn skills. Sigh.... If you have to explain....

D) Gus Kenworthy? PARK CITY (or wherever he skis) IS NOT A PLANET. Doing pretzels on a rail isn't sdiR$&"*^T£"£&%"^£.

E) I'm gonna say Candide just because.

F) Next generation: Kye, Pettits, Thomas Krief, and apparently Jossi kills it in the big mtns so we'll see.

Tie between T.J. Burke and Dexter Rutecki. If Dex hadn't died in that avy, they totally would've won the Powder 8.

Jon sucks at big mountain! His SSD seg proves it. Jon is a robot that practices the same shit over and over. THen when everyone gets sick of his same shit he goes back to the drawing board and learns something new for the next two years. Hard worker but not the most talented.

I've become immune from north-american attempts at sarcasm, and i'm broke right now so haven't been able to scrape together the funds for a new sarcasm meter, as a result of which I really can't tell if that is a joke. I'll have to assume so until i find evidence to the contrary, but there's a small part of me that is horribly afraid it wasn't. Please would you clear up the confusion on my part.

Much obliged xx

No Sarcasm. Truth. Show me one clip that proves he can ski Big Mountain. A real line, with steeps, blind roll overs, cliffs and something you wouold have to ski fast so your sluff doesnt send you over a 300 foot cliff.

I will have to calmly disagree with you by just saying that Jon is actually ridiculously good and if he wanted to get back into the big mountain game he could slay it, but he's too busy inventing new double flips and progressing park in his own way to do it. I dunno...maybe I just think that he's sort of like the jimmy page of skiing, not the greatest in every area, but FUCKING good at whatever he wants to do.

id have to say for best

"overall" (freestyle including bc)- tanner, has done fuckin everything

for rails-4bi9(yes the whole crew)

jumps- Jon

BC- abma or morrison

pipe- dumont.....slightly over tanner

racing- herman maier (yes i actually give a shit about racing)

overall (racing, freestyle, and bc)- Jon by default (only person pro in both)

Park=Simon/Jon/Andreas/Jossi

Big Mountain=Seth/Sage/Eric H.

All around=T-hall/Pep/ Pollard

Soon to be the best=Twall/Kenworthy/b-brown/Sammy if he gets some more podiums

Why are people still breaking them into parts of an overall skier?

He didn't ask, who is the park skier? Who is the best big mtn skier? Who is the best at rails? Who hops around the most while on rails?

I know I'm going to piss someone off with this, but when talking about who WILL be the best....don't make a list of park skiers. No offense to Wallisch, Kenworthy, or Bobby Brown...but no. The kid that impresses me the most is Kye Peterson, or Duncan Adams. Not many parks skiers outside of Crested Butte will enter the US Extremes at CB the weekend the North American Open was going on. I was super impressed that he chose to enter a big mtn comp instead, and while he didn't win anything...he skied super good.

I guess he did say overall skier, but u can't just say one guy is the best all around, actually u can-T hall obviously is, but there are just too many great skiers to not mention them in their best areas. In terms of park, twall, kenworthy and bbrown are the best up and comers, kye, sean and duncan will be the future in bc and pow

I would say it's close between Tanner Hall and Mark Abma. Tanner's better at throwing tricks, but Mark's a better freerider. I've never seen Jon ski big mountain, so I don't know about him. Eric Hjorleifson great too. He's comfortable in the park and DOMINATES the big mountains.

Tanner Hall

Started skiing when he was three

Ski Raced

Moguls

Ski College for moguls/ aerials

Freeride Park Skier

Blew up the Comp Scene

Devoted the last few years to making his own movies

BC Jump Slayer (Chad's and Truckee Gaps come to mind)

Rettallack BC shredding pow weeks before winning X Games gold

Yea i think tanner is hands down the most versatile skiier out there

Wait, he never cross country skiid. Nevermind

Thank you for pointing out that North America is not a planet. I had forgotten about the Mammoth event, I thought all the events were in Europe. The Russian event would probably be considered Asia.

Has anyone been claiming that Jon does not kill it in big mountains? Most of what I've seen is more along the lines of "he's not as good as Seth" which is certainly not talking shit.

I agree that Jon is ridiculously good, but don't compare him to Seth, he is simply not at that level. He has been getting more into the big mountain game recently, so it is not as if it is something he has to "get back into."

SSD was his first true big mountain part. It was good, and showed he can certainly slay it, but it was not on the level of Seth or Nobis or Sage.

oh no dude i totally agree that jon is a really really good bc skier. and like you said he is good at every aspect of skiing, because the dude works hard. but to me, seth will always be the best. kind of ignorant, but i just can't think of anybody as crazy as that guy in the bc...

No problem. I wasn't directly calling you out, I was more referring to the large percentage of north americans on ns with a tendency to think of the north american ski scene as the entirity of skiing.

And the more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to think it's a shoot-out between Tanner, Jon and Henrik Windstedt. Tanner's attributes don't need much justification although I would say that his pipe domination, while being mighty impressive, is perhaps slightly cheapened by the lack of genuine depth to pipe skiing. What I'm saying is that there are probably 20 guys in the world that could realitically win X games slope or even big air (or at least 10) whereas in pipe the field is considerably narrower. That said, perhaps it merely seems that way because tanner is just so much better, who knows....

And still there are idiots doubting Jon's big mtn credentials... Just because he hasn't had afilm segment on it. Wake the fuck up kids. If a tree falls in a forest and you weren't there to hear it, you honestly believe it didn't make a sound? The result of the only big mtn competition Jon ever entered speaks for itself: gold. against the likes of kaj zackrisson, sverre lillequist, stian hagen, seb garhammer etc. For those of you who are aware that there is life outside Amurkah and therefore know who the fuck i'm talking about, well... thanks i guess. And say what you wil about big mtn comps but they sure as fuck are a truer test of ones skiing than creamy pillows.

Which brings me to Windstedt, a former elite park skier who has won the freeride world tour in his rookie year... You see where I'm going with this? You could argue the merits of almost anyone legitimately, for hours and there would still be no answer.

p.s. its candide by the way, just because.

Jon is the only one who is "overall" the best.

big mountain, freestyle, racing. those are the three main brackets of skiing, and he owns all of them.

FUCK THIS THREAD.

but i felt like replying, so i'll say tanner. he slays urban, park, bc, x games, sick video parts, and THE MASSIVE.

andreas haveiit absloutly kills it in our sport with no credit he by far is the most well rounded park-pipe-urban skier but if want to include backcountry id say mark abma

Tanner has every aspect going for him minus racing and big mountain to a certain degree.

Jon does it all, races at a world cup level, won a big mountain contest back in the day, had a solid backcountry part in TBC, can pretzel consistantly, can ride pipe better than 99% of this site, is better than anyone on jumps.

all with perfect style.

the only thing he lacks is urban...

Skiing does revolve around North America bitch. Even racing now. Stop spraying your Euro trash here. Your entire statment about halfpipe skiing is retarded. That big mt. contest that Jon won was a joke. Ask your friends Kaj and Stian. And what the fuck do you know about creamy pillows. Long pillow lines are super complex to ski because everything is blind. You can hardly ever see your line when starting or while in it for that matter. You have no clue. Shut it.

I love how the question of the thread was, "hands down best Skier (Singular)?" and you guys proceed to go through all the disciplines of the sport and name off like 3 skiiers each.

I'm still repping Henrik Windstedt

Not many skiers have his talent...

Former World Cup mogul skier (and is trying to make the team for the Olympics, correct me if I'm wrong though)

6 Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships (01,02,03,05,07,08)

2nd place finish at the US Open Slopestyle (04)

1st place at the Freeride de Tignes (08)
