I hate it when companies rush games out to the market that they know are going to sell ridiculouos numbers of copies even if they're woefully underdeveloped. This is a particularly ridiculous example. The texture mapping in Halo 2 is fairly unpolished, so there's something called popup (When the geometry appears before the textures). Think of it as something akin to in GTA: Vice City, you're driving alone and trees and buildings dissappear off screen and reappear depending on how close or far away you are to them, only with textures... except backwards. Popup is supposed to work in the opposite way to what Halo 2 does during the cutscenes; The closer the object is, the more detailed the textures should be, and vice versa. Yet for some reason, Halo 2 can't do textures up close. Pretty pathetic, guys. If Gates hadn't fired half of Bungie's staff...

Not saying the game sucks, just... they shouldn't release it when there are fairly noticeable issues like that. Fix everything, then release it (As if a december release would really have hurt them).

I don't much care when it was SUPPOSED to be ready, what matters is when it IS ready, which clearly was not by the release date. Old Bungie would have delayed it a month and worked out the bugs. New Bungie is a microsoft whore.

Not that I have the time to play Halo at the moment... I just think it's pretty much bad form on the developers' part to release an uncompleted game to an audience that's been anticipating it pretty heavily.

Actually, I think that a december release would have really hurt them in a big way. Think about all the holiday shopping that goes on between now and december. I know that tons of people have started. By having an extra month of holiday shoppers buying your product (especially one as hyped as halo 2) the profits are immense.

all those people who were going to buy it before, would buy it a month later anyway. It wouldn't make that big of a difference. Besides that, how many people pre-ordered? Wounldn't hurt them unless it was delayed until after Christmas, even then it's debatable.

 
Do realize how many buyers are actually moms who are buying it for thier kids because they are looking for a gift and thier kid mentioned that it was the coolest game because all of their friends have it and he wants it too? Not all buyers are going to be hardcore gamers.

i havent played it yet but the way big corperations work is its all about the money. they dont give a shit about the product. they get everyone all hyped about it saying its so much better and they put it out and its a half ass job, slightly improved with a new story. then next thing ya know they do it all over again just to put a lambo in their garage. but thats what makes the world go 'round boy and girls..... and gravity and things of that sort but thats another subject

thats caused by how the game renders graphics so tha there is next to no loading time and its acctually a problem with the xbox

Bunige squeezed every ounce of GPU power on the XBox to make the game. There were hardware limitations, and its been said many a time that this is the peak of graphical performance any game will have in this generation of hardware. Besides, does it seriously bother you that it rarely cuts out like that? Its not like this makes portions of the game unwatchable. Its an amazing game, but had Bungie fixed the 480p formatting problems for widescreen tvs, it would have been nicer. I could have waited for that, it cuts off part of the HUD in Campaign. Bungie says a Downloadable Patch is on its way though. Yes, it was a tad underdeveloped, but its other achievements far outweigh these petty mishaps.

i ran into a problem yesterday, i was on a gunner turret and the flood just kept jumping ontop of me and shooting behind me, and they were stacked ontop of eachother there was like 5 of them.

i was going to go for a quad daffy but i was like, why huck? -mommy
 
i got a problem with halo2 2. my friend got the same problem.

when i'm turning on my xbox, it comes a message when the halo disc is in it. it says: this xbox cant reconice this disc as a xbox game... i have to restart the xbox about five times each time to play halo 2.

try running a lens cleaner disc. that worked for my ps2 when it only would read some discs

Halo2 ended up being the biggest gaming disappointment for me this year. I could not stand the campaign, and the multiplayer maps don't show amazing amounts of promise. The only thing they got right was stealing vehicles and dual weilding. Of course it's still a good game, but after all the hype and story, it crashed.

haha jd i noticed the same exact thing. But seriously, when a game that has been delayed for 1.5 years (seriously), it should be perfect. This shouldnt happen to a game of this caliber. Also about the dual guns, I dont understand why its so hyped. This concept has been around for 5+ years. But, all in all this game is amazing and I would like to playing it right now

first of all, fuck you guys who said halo 2 sucks. with that out of the way, JD, thats not an error in the game, its a method which allows them to milk alot better graphics out of the system without any lag. Alot of computer game's use it, as it gives the system time to generate difficult textures without lagging/pausing the game until that loading is done.

yeah halo 2 was waaaaaaay over hyped, they said you could sprint and you could do melee combos and shit, but you can't. but its still the best game ever. and i love it

Over the past few days, a number of players have been experiencing a few unexpected issues with Halo 2. The Bungie test team has been working to resolve and/or minimize these issues where possible. Here are the 3 most popular problems people are encountering along with the current status:

Halo 2 480p - HUD is clipped on either side of the screen

The test team is working on a potential fix for this problem and we hope to have more informaiton very soon. You can help us out by sharing your specs for your television in the post pinned in this forum.

Unusually long wait times while attemping to join a matchmade game

This is also is being worked on and a potential fix is going through additional testing.

'Dirty Disc' / 'Failed to Load Map' errors

This message occurs when Halo 2 fails to load a multiplayer map. This is usually due to either a dirty disc (scratched, smudges, etc..) or in some cases could be the result of a problem with your Xbox (more likely in older units). In most cases, if you reset your box, there's a chance the map will load properly next time. While we can't create a fix that will alleviate what might ultimately be a hardware related problem, we can hopefully make it so you won't have to reboot upon a map failure before you play another game. This issue is being investigated.

We wanted everyone to know that these issues have been heard and identified and we are working to find the best possible solutions as quickly as possible. As soon as we have additional information, I'll update this post.

We are also still evaluating our existing playlists and gametypes within each playlists based on activity so far and all the feedback we've been receiving. We will have some initial adjustments soon.

SkiUnit, you can do melee combos, only with some guns though. The campaign is still captivating, and just because it doesn't turn out how most people expected it would, doesn't mean it sucks. NO sprint, but if you are pissed because of that, then wow.

i litterally played halo two from 3 oclock to 1 in the morning, then i got up 5 hours later and played another 4 hours. i love the game, im just saying i was looking forward to a lot of small stuff that would make the game a lot better. and alot of them happended and alot didn't

My xbox did the same thing with like one of our games for a couple of weeks, then it did it with all the other games until it finally read when we turned it on that our xbox was completely broken and gave us a number to call.

Xboxs only last for 2 years before they break down. We had a 2 year garentee and three days after the 2 years ran out our xbox broke. It was cool because my mom just got one the next day, with 3 weeks of free Xbox live but i was missed because we lost all our saved files on it.

I can only get Halo 2 in a month, but I couldn't care less if the few first seconds of every cutscenes look weird. Actually, did you notice the animation or whatever looks really fucking good if you don't count the first second? It's amazing. Plus, the graphics don't make the game...
