HALFPIPE SKIING IN THE OLYMPICS

the problem is that snowbaording half pipe has been known for a longer time that skiing, there also is a conflict with the amount of sports allowed in the games, because i think they would have to get rid of some to add it

i might be crazy, but i sware i saw a clip of a skier in a halfpipe when they do all the little clips right before commercials last night on NBC. It might have been moguls, but it looked like the pipe. ANyone else see?

i dont think snowboarding was expiditional and there is no drug test for snowboarding. the first winer of a sb medal tested posative or marajuana but was later given back his medal. Just look at the halfpipe roster from this olympics and the last ones.

true...i bet if they did make it a sport, the skiers from like Russia would win because all the other skiers would fail and get kicked out of them games. lol

^ not realy cuase i belive there is no drug test for snowboarding. the sb that won the first sb medal at nagano tested posative for marajuna but was awarded his medal anyway. Look at the halfpipe roster this year with the likes of danny kass. also it takes about a week for mj to exit ur systme, they dont do hair test they do piss test, and i think tanner hall could hold off for a week if it was the olympics

no the olypics are really gay as far as freestyle goes the give snoboarding every oppurtunity and yet they dont make a skiing event

To clear this up,

There is no such thing as "demonstration" "showcase" or "exibition" events in the Olympics anymore. They have not done that since 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway.

Think about it for a second, was there ever a snowboarding "demonstation event"? No, it was accepted for Nagano and was an official medal event right from the start. Was snowboardcross an "exibition sport" in Salt Lake? No, but it is a medal event in Torino.

That is how it works now, you are either in or out.

If the ski industry (especially sponsors) and athletes start supporting a World Cup circuit, then FIS will probably be able to get pipe in the Olympics.

I think slopestyle would be way better to have than pipe. It's just better. I can see both sides of this. I mean FIS is messed up. I compete at some of their comps and the stuff they look for isn't right. First of all they say they look for style most but that's a straight up lie. Second they score pretty much nothing extra for taking off switch. Third they're scoring is so inconsistent. At a recent comp a straight 540 which did look pretty good beat a just as nice if not nicer cork 9 and won the entire comp. Not to mention how many times they've called the wrong trick on me. They once called one of my cork 9s a straigh 5, a cork 10 a cork 7 and in the moguls they called a cork 5 safety a 3 with no grab.

On the other hand there is no reason that skiing can't be if snowboarding is. They have the corse and everything. It would be sweet to get skiing some recognition as the sport it's turning into not just ariels and racing and stuff.

Overall I think it should be in the olympics but there is a small part of me that says it shouldnt

When you say you compete at FIS events do you mean Nor-Am and World Cup, or more regional ones?

Hey If The olimpics just put every fad into the olimpics we might have to watch skiboarding and snowskating in the olimpics. They are probably waiting to see if the sport will stick...which im shure it will...but we just have to be patient.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS EXHIBITION EVENTS ANYMORE!!!!!

Why do people still persist in thinking that what ended in 94 is still happening?

haha because people don't bother to read what is actually in the thread.

I must say i wouldn't mind seeing Ski Halfpipe in 2010.

the thing about selling out is you get lots of money, then you dont have to hang out with the losere who think selling out is bad

Halfpipe will at least enter the olympic games by 2014.

Think about it. Freeskiing has only been seriously growing for about 7 years, since the first straight up twintips were invented.

7 or 8 more years, It's enough time for the world to really see what its all about. Im sure it would be very popular in Europe, as compared to snowboarding...

almostasker brought up a great point when i was talking to him and i dont know if its already been said, but the olympics do random drug testing, so most of the pros in skiing would be unable to compete because of failed drug tests

umm, the reason you don't know it's already been said 100 times! is because you didn't bother to read the thead, what's new...

My two cents (and I am not sure if someone has said this already), but did you guys watch the halfpipe snowboarding? Almost EVERYONE fell! What the fuck? I realize everyone was trying to go huge, but there is something to be said for not fucking up. I think it is a sign that snowboarding halfpipe hasn't established itself enough to justify being in the olympics.

By the way, the biathalon RULES!

No, its established itself pretty well, especailly with the success in '02.

But if skiing were in there, you know there would be so many more people flocking into the freeskiing movement, especially in Europe, where snowboarding hasnt even really taken off yet.

There are not enough COUNTRIES actively involved in creating pro level skiers for park riding.

Moguls and Aerials took forever to get in the olympics and will not drop soon.

Racing has HUGE following, revenue, and funding in places other than here.

And it wont happen in 2010

Well if we put every fad in the olympics then we might see skiboarding and snowskating in it. they have to see if skiing is going to continue to be popular. witch it will. so im shure that it will be in the next winter olympics

I just dont udnerstand why anyone wouldnt want halfpipe skiing in the olympics. Halfpipe skiing is so much tighter than snoboarding...I mean dont get me wrong I have mad respect for the snowboarders..Congrats Sean White you deserve that shit!!!!!!!! BUt really skiing is so much more technical and so much more amp. SOME DAY I HOPE!!!

Dude, by the time the olympics puts freestyle skiing in there, those guys are going to be in thier 30's lol.

Its going to be all Sean Pettit and Kye Petersen.

Kye would probably take it for Canada..

on an ESPN show five minutes ago, some guy from denver said that they need more skiing events from the x games in order to save the olympics.. just thought i would share that

many pro skiers would not compete because of the regulations put on athletes and the event itself by the world cup and olympics committees.

I dont know if it would "save" the olympics...

It would surely make it more entertaining for me to watch though...

The Olympics have always been traditional. The X-Games are the Olympics for all the "extreme" sports not in the actual Olympics. I agree, it would make the Olympics more fun to watch, but if some skiers such as Tanner Hall went into it, it could give freestyle skiing a bad attitude. Im 50-50 on this one.

I honestly dont care if it makes the olympics.

I mean, if it were in the olympics it would get tons of crapshit media attention and it would destroy anything about freeskiing that may be considered "low key" and more gapers would get involved, as if there arent enough..

Then again, it could give more attention to ski companies like Armada and 4frnt and they would gain more money, more money = better products.

but either way... I dont see it making the olympics for a while now...

Just seems a bit too far down the road at this moment...
