Haiti has had its 2 weeks.

Good lord you are a selfish asshole! When you give someone anything you don't need to expect anything back. You saying, "all we got was a group... ect." is uncalled for. Be happy for the people standing up and helping others in need because despite what you think, some people give a fucking damn about others.

this.

didnt the US also divert a carrier group slated for the Persian gulf to go and provide aid? (99% sure i remember seeing this on the news)

Haiti is no way near wealthy enough to help out any other countries. they have a hard enough time trying to feed more than half the population.

The Dominican Republic was doing fine...wonder why? Maybe it has something to do with the Republic part. The democratic republic part...the representative republic part.

If America actually cared they would have been helping Haiti before this happened. I watched Clinton and Bush asking people to donate money to Haiti while they have 16 years of presidency between them and never once did anything of significance for Haiti during that entire period.

why does the US have to do anything for Haiti? The states have enough problems without having to deal with other countries. I really couldn't care less that they didn't do anything for Haiti.

don't ever say /thread. the point of a forum is to converse.

To the point, only 40% of the money donated to "Haiti" actually went to Haiti, the other 60 was profit. The entire situation pissed me off and the fact that this tragedy just got turned into a cashcow is really typifying of the state of the world right now.
It's sickening. No one should have cared so much to begin with.

Exactly, they don't have to do anything and they don't care too and that's why they haven't until this point. I'm only stating that they shouldn't claim they truly care about Haiti now because the rest of the world is watching when the reality is that they don't.

haha what you think haitans are going to donate money to the US to help us out? they are poor as fuck already

no, people are caring now because a fucking earthquake destroyed the country. To an american who has enough to worry about, the deplorable situation in one tiny country doesn't warrant a second thought, but when an earthquake hits and really destroys the country, people care because in one fell swoop hundreds and thousands of people were killed. The opportunity presented itself, so people began to care. I doubt the people who donated money by text or the people who donated money at all (minus hollywood) gave a shit about what the rest of the world thought. I say minus hollywood because those morons feel like they need to throw their money around to make it seem like they are the paragons of charity and that without them, the world would fall apart. Refer to Ricky Gervais's golden globes bit about hollywood.

Seriously??? What is your problem. I have never seen you post a positive comment on this site. All I've seen you do is hate on other kids and bitch about society. No one gives a fuck that you're an internet badass.

Actually I revoke the bitching about society part now that I have read your comment about collecting money from everyone in your dorm.

There is a difference between genuinely caring and participating in pluralistic ignorance. I'm not claiming that helping Haiti is wrong by any means, only that how most Americans actually feel is debatable.

americans don't care about iraq tho, the goverment does.

To add a quote I seen in a documentry about U.S marines in Afghanistan when some journelist guy walked around with them one of the marines said "America is not at war, America is at the mall. The Military is at war" If you wan't i'll P.M the link.

Katrina was so politicized it's not even funny. It was billed as the worst natural disaster to ever hit the US, but in realty, the damage in terms of dollars and lives was far lower than a good deal of natural disasters that have hit us in the past. The only reason it was politicized was to crucify Bush for "inaction." It's almost as if a completely incompetent state government and an imbecile of a mayor had nothing to do with the woefully inept state of infrastructural affairs in New Orleans. Also the fact that the state tried to construct dikes on the cheap was a good idea as well. Long story short, the lack of a response to Katrina wasn't totally Bush's or FEMA's fault. The state, and the local govt, had no fucking clue about what to do.

There is a HUGE difference between not caring and not being able to empathize. Just because we haven't experienced anything like they have, doesn't mean that we can't or don't care for them. As of Janruary 22, the US Government alone has donated $131,014,571. I'm pretty sure that means we care...

I pretty much agree with what Delphi's been saying in this thread. I don't have much more to say, I'd just be repeating things that have already been said.

Yeah when I was 10 I'd much rather get cash for Christmas than a present my parents carefully picked out for me.

People like you are what will slowly but surely drive me to the point where I don't believe there is actually a single decent person left in the whole damn world. I'll go into silence and live off the land somewhere completely isolated from humans, and just write music.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe bosh has a heart.. Just maybe.

But to op, I agree and disagree at the same time, yes we do need to help, but at the same time, there are many problems on our own soil that the money donated could be used for.

I tried to quote ohmybosh. I understand you. You care, you're just calling out all the people that get offended by Haiti jokes or say they care but don't do shit.

To the people who said they didn't help us: they are one of the poorest places on Earth, most of them probably didn't even know it happened, and even if they did, how could they help?
To the people saying we need to help ourselves because our countries in bad shape: they need it way more than us.

america helps everyone else when they are in need. its time for this commercial shit to stop though. seriously everything is about haiti now. how many countries helped us with katrina?

ha but as much as i understand the op especially the bit about not helping people in our own country i still think we should try and help them out anyway

its kinda true tho, i havent seen or herd anythng abut haiti latly,

there are no commercials about it , nothing.

its not just america.

personaly i find its media, they have there story let it ride for a bit and move on.

during the 2 weeks around where i live there where alot of charitys in schools and around , now there is nothing.

as if people dont care or want to ignore that it happened.

Short form, I THINK ITS THE MEDIA THAT MOVES ON TO FAST
