Haha Soccer medic saves goal

haha the red team was like wtf, but the guy was like yeah, I just interfered, what are you going to do about it.
 
now whats the call on that...

I'm not sure you can send off a medic, as he's necessary to the team...but since no players acted, nor was it a handball, there can't be a penalty either. And the goal shouldn't be awarded....
 
cant be a goal coz the ref didnt blow in time and i dont know if he can be sent of because he is a medic coz he is so important if there is an injury. He will probaly be suspended.
 
Why would it not be a goal? If the ball is going in, and then a bystander interferes, its still a goal. And Im sure there is more than one medic, so cya later to him as well.
 
its because play goes on until the ref blows his whistle e.g. a streaker once scored amd a dog ran on in an FA cup match and they both had to count. In the dogs case the team that scored just did an own goal to make it fair, that happened 40 years ago and i doubt anybody in football will be that sporty now. Just like the united goal the other day.
 
can't award the goal unless it crossed the line. How can he be sure it was going in? What if it bounced off the inside of the post and went out? Unless it was gently rolling into an open goal, and the medic came in and booted it clear, you can't be sure it was going in.

Besides, soccer is one of those sports where the rules are simple for the most part, but sometimes things make very little sense when something extra happens.
 
nah shit like that still happens. Look at Arsene offering a replay a few years back. And that wasn't even due to outside circumstances. The Arsenal players just didn't realize one of the defenders had gone down injured, and scored easily. Yet he still offered a replay. (doubt he would have done it if he wasn't sure of winning again, but still...the thought is there)
 
i think the ball looks like it is going out... I think its just epic that he would hit it back in, he was totally helping the dude....
 
i was a soccer referee for a few years and i would talk to the other referees to see if the ball would have went into the goal and if we all agree it was going in i would award the goal. fifa rules are written so the referee basically can do whatever he wants. all of the rules are up to the discretion of the referee so there i think you could call it both ways, whatever the ref decides. and you are only allowed to card players, not coaches, fans, medics, etc. so technically you can't 'send him off' with a red card, but you can remove him from the game, and i would assume he would be fired from the staff, and a hero among his friends. anyone know what the ref actually called?
 
never mind, this is wrong. i thought about it again, and there is no goal because the ball never went in net. however, the ref could tell the players to let the red team score (because they should've had a goal) and he the other team would let them score. its the same way as when a player gets injured and someone kicks the ball out of bounds, they will throw the ball in to the other team because they had possession.
 
sorry i dont know what the ref actally called but there is no way it can be a goal. maybe a free kick just outside the box?
 
yeah i dont know either but say you take a shot that's definitely going in, and im a defender and i purposely stop it with my arm, you'd get a PK. so if i had to guess, they probably got a PK?
 
hand ball in the box though? thats hot did not look like it was going in and it was a player that prevented the goal. so they techniaclly cant be penalized
 
since soccer doesnt do video replays there's no way to call it a goal. the red team had to suck it up and deal with it. i'm sure the medic was fired but he just won bigtime
 
First of all, that was years ago.
Second,^ of course you can send off a medic and I'm sure the league fucked the guy afterwards too.
 
I think you're right. I've been looking up the official fifa rules, and it seems like it would have be a drop ball since a non-playing person interfered.

haha thats what i thought. If you are gonna keep the ball from going in why not use your hands? haha you're not gonna get a card for a handball.
 
the call:

no goal. drop ball at spot of infraction. red player kicks the dropped ball, and the blue team allows it to go into the goal.
 
i tried to find the real call online, but i couldn't find it. so after reading what everyone said, this is the conclusion that i came to. i was a ref for 4 years and had to take an ungodly number of hours of classes, 98% of shit i knew from playing, and 2% of random bullshit that would (almost, apparently) never happen.

to give you an example of what i learned:

if a player takes a goal kick and it leaves the 18 and then the wind blows it back into the 18 and then into the goal, it would be a corner kick for the other team, because a goal kick is indirect and has to be touched again before it can be scored on, and since the team taking the kick kicked it out of bounds, it would be a corner kick to the other team. however, if the goalie attempted to save it and it went off of his fingertips into the goal, it would be a goal only if another player took the kick. if the goalie took the kick, it would be an indirect free kick for the other team at the spot he touched it. unless he touched it inside the 6, in which case the kick would be on the 6 yard line.

no joke, they seriously took the time to teach us that stuff. i don't know what that referee called, but if this example proves that i know what i'm talking about, then that is probably what was called.
