On Tuesday, voters in Breckenridge, Colorado, approved Measure 2F, which eliminates the town’s criminal penalties for possession of up to an ounce of marijuana by a person 21 or older. A whopping 73 percent voted in favor of the measure, which also ends charges for possession of pot paraphernalia like bongs, pipes, and that apple you turned into a pipe. But Breck’s new measure isn’t a free pass to fire up a doob all willy-nilly. You can’t smoke in public, drive under the influence, and if you’re a minor, possession is still a criminal offense. And on-mountain puffing? You’ll still get busted. “In spite of the outcome of this vote, the possession and use of marijuana other than for medical use remains illegal under Colorado state law and using any ski lift or ski slope or trail while under the influence is prohibited under the Colorado Ski Safety Act,” said Pat Campbell, chief operating officer for Breckenridge Ski Resort. And elsewhere in Colorado, Durango—home to Durango Mountain Resort and close to Silverton Mountain—might be the next to decriminalize pot. A group called Sensible Durango is hoping to put a similar measure on the city's ballot for the November 2010 elections.
haha my favorite line "A ski town has legalized the evil weed."
sorry if this is a repost

i bet you can get away with smoking outside, they just dont want you to. if theyre somewhat legit cops they wont bother with it. they sounded overly serious about prosecution for something they just legalized ya know. i mean what about a skier that smokes weed for medicinal purposes? he or she would obviously want to be high if they were skiing so they could enjoy skiing without medical complications. people that have a fucking greencard smoke everyday and therefore have a tolerance. they know what theyre doing.d

I believe that it is federal law that makes it illegal and not state law though, right? So it doesn't matter that these people voted for it to be legal. Which is pretty dumb in the first place. Federal laws are voted for and passed by the house and senate, yes they are people we voted in to office. However, we only voted them in because we had no choice/alternative. So now we have people deciding how to vote on issues that are "speaking for us" but they never ask us what we want, they just get elected in and vote however they want. So when legislation comes along, like this one, it doesn't matter that the majority of the people voted to legalize it, because the people in power (who were put there by us) vote against what we actually want...hmm sounds like a good system.

well it would be kind of crazy if 300,000,000 people voted on every issue, and there is accountability with the legislators, one reason for this is if they do not use their vote in representative manner they wont get re-elected

You think it is impossible for a large amount of people to vote on everything that they want? I am sure they could devise a way to do it through the internet/TV if they really wanted to, but they are too set in their ways. We have the technology to do it easily.

And do the legislators really have accountability for how they vote? I think not, does everyone that voted for a particular legislator follow everything that he/she votes and and watches to see how they vote? I bet pretty much nobody does that.

it is impossible for a lot of people to vote on something... that is one of the reasons that representative democracy came about, to many people will just never agree on anything, it wouldnt work, and it is the responsibility of the voter to pay attention to legislatures
