Gymnast's invented afterbang

i do think that they watch gymnastics... thats like the only thing in the olympics worth watching... thats all i watch at least, not only are there some hotties, they all just throw down... like who the fuck can watch a race on t.v. or something like that... i can deffinatley watch girls in skimpy uniforms flip and spin for a bit though

when a skier lands a trick and afterbangs nothing happens.

when a gymnast lands a trick and afterbangs they can win a gold medal in the olympics.

haha those pics are great. But the raising the hands is an actual requirement in gymnastics to try an show that they stomped the landing. Gymnasts have to do it even if they stumble. Same sort of idea i guess. Both trying to show that they stomped a trick. Both look stupid if you really didnt.

i regret it almost everyday not staying in gymnastics....it truly does teach you to have control over your body, to be insanely flexible and to fall correctly. seems like some good tactics to have while skiing park..

as for the afterbang...the picture says it all.

worrrd. i competed for 10 years in gymnastics, that's a lot of afterbanging now that i think of it haha. i have to give it to kerri strug, for her epic one-footed afterbang in the '96 olympics.

although its a joke, i am in total agreeance with this thread. I actually just finished up a month of beginner gymnastics lessons to improve my skiing, and the similarities were actually quite astonishing. Plus its hard as hell, and if nothing else those girls bodies are unreal. And maybe hornbeck and wallisch do sit there all day watching old olympics routine reruns, if its true theyre obviously better skiers for it.

gymnast's also invited flips and spins, the beam event in gymnastics is very similiar to rails in skiing afterbang is just another case of how skiers really follow gymnastics

I think the actual term comes from snowboarding ( it was the name of an Absinthe films movie from I believe 2004), but the concept of Afterbang in our context (claiming how sick your trick that you just landed was, which in relation to the word's meaning [riding away from a sloppy, barely landed trick like you stomped the shit out of it] seems to have been mutated at least slightly), is much older and has been practiced in many disciplines.

afterbang is kinda cool if you're really good. I hate watching kids do a fucking 2 out and afterbanging it though while they're seshing a rail or something. I usually make my ride away short just so I don't have to walk very far back up the hill. Maybe I am the lone skier who rejects afterbang.

its exactly the same concept. some day some kid is going to after bang so hard on a jump that he breakes his leages because he forgot to absorb the jump impact

yea ive heard so many people say that gymnasts would have awful style on skis, or whatever, but they can just lay everything down soooooo smooth and fresh, and yea claiming the shit outta it is exactly the right word, it seems like everytime they land its like they're saying yea you got better than that?

hehe, i was looking for where it started and came across this, threads hilarious. i used to be a gymnast and i totally agree, also great job on the picture comparison, i saved it for a collage...

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! i did gymnastics, i was pretty steezy too, i rocked tye dye gangst shit and peeps were like 0.o disqualify that bitch for not wearing a thong!

if anything someone should bring afterbang to olympic ski arials. They are basically gymnasts on skis but when they land they just start fistpumping like crazy. not steezyy

I think the gymnasts might have a point.
But more importantly, Skiers were after banging in movies before snowboarders. And it was Shane McConkey who was, once again, the innovator. The most memorable one I can think of is him skimming over a pond and back flipping out at the other end. He banged the the landing super hard.
I can't remember which movie this was other than it was MSP (fairly sure) and I think I have it on VHS (so obviously old) so it was definitely before the snowboard movie.
Yep, gymnast might afterbang off snow, but IMO Shane McConkey invented afterbanging on snow.
PS Anyone know the movie I mean?
