Gymnastics and skiing

so im siitin at home right now watching the olypics and watching gymnastics their muscle memmorey with flips and spins is so insane that if you were taught to ski they be amazing they were pretty much doing a ton of double flips and just crazy stuff of the uneven bars imagine what they could do off a 60+ footer, and the balance beem is on now, they would be dirty at rails their balance is crazy, the insane amount of stuff they be able to do on a rail if they skied would be endless, gymnists would bring the sport to a new level

I think I remember hearing that alot of the olympic freestyle type skiing pros come from a gymnastics background.

i agree with whats said above,

gymnastics is a little to strict. they might be able to do incredible things on skis, but there style would be atrocious.

claim: i was in gymnastics for 16 years. but have yet to bring the sport to a new level haha. gymnasts definitely use the same amount of axes as skiers do...its just hard to see when the only gymnastics you know is what's in the olympics and stuff.

as for rails, i'm not entirely sure if beam skills would help a whole lot because most of the time is spent with feet facing up and down the beam, not sideways

Shawn Johnson is so hot.

But anyways, i like watching gymnastics and the diving for the double flips and what not

i was thinking the same thing. gymnasts are really good with balance and air sense. i took a gymnastics class in college and it was so fun. it helped my backflips skiing. it would be fun to get good at it

yea watching gymnastics is nuts. its crazy seeing 16 year old girls doing flips and spins that i could only dream of perfectly

i agree,

but it seems like gymnastics has been the same forever, skiing SEEMS much more progressive

im pretty sure gymnastics use the exact same axis as us just that we can c it 100x better becasue we have giant sticks on our feet which make it easy to c plus gymastics can trhow stuff way harder cuase there just body no equipment

Gymnasts spin wayyyy differently than skiers do. They don't wind up at all, and their arms stay up instead of down, and they do not bring their legs up.

At this gymnastics gym near my town (southern maine) i met a trainer who used to train dumont in Bethel.. pretty wierd. He said Dumont was never really outstanding at trampolines and stuff but he was comfortable enough to take it to the hill.

i was a competitive gymnast from age 8 to 12 and it helped so much. Ridiculous. I recommend gymnastics as a background for any sport.

they should start bangin their dismounts and shit in the olympics instead of lookin all stiff and stuff

idk if this is right to say cuz their stuff aslo takes major balls, but i think it takes major balls to throw that shit off a 60 + booter.....but it also takes balls to try fuckin backflips on a 5 inch beam

sso say a freestyle skier and gymnist switched sports, they both would be starting and ground zero for both sports, so idk if you c ould say they would be really good at it, they just might have better air sense, but having to pop off a jump with all that speed would all be new to them

Is anybody watching the womens team gymnastics right now? The girl thats going first for the americans fell twice and she was crying. I felt so bad for her no homo. She's soooo hot

Maybe she needs a pick-me-up.

The Chinese team is killing it on the floor routine. That stadium is going nuts.

I actually just finished saying to my brother the potential these girls would have on skis.. He just looked at me in a drunken way.

i used to do it a bit, def helped with control of your body and such. But its really different with the axis and also how you throw things. skis make a huge difference. I really want to start doing gymnastics again tho, build up strength or body control. If skiing could cater to athletes and create a "training" environment like gymnastics, we would see a lot of progression. But skiing seems to be more of a leisure sport, and mountains will hardly ever cater to professional athletes in a way that will allow them to practice at the level. All parks are different and change day to day. gymnastics is the same everyday pretty much. Skiing is so expansive too, between halfpipe, backcountry, rails, slopestyle....

alicia sacramone is the hottest one. and is actually legal. i tried to look at her facebook but it won't let me :(

ya alicia is hotter than shawn and if they tried skiing it would be jus like aerials it wouldnt be like freestyle plus it is a totally different type of balance than skiing cuz when ure skiing ure goin forward or backward but in gymnastics ure not going anywhere close to as fast

shawn is way hotter, alicia has the neck of a linebacker

but imagine alicia sacramone's neck and head on shawn johnson's body, that would be so intense

The day gymnastics and skiing mixed happened a LOOOOOONG TIME AGO...

its called aerials folks... and its fucking gay looking.

All having to keep you legs together, and spin all fucking weirdly and shit... fuck that...

Gymnastics is bullshit compared to skiing.

first off its not gay, if you ski people need to appreceate all types of skiing second its not gay just becasue they dont wear baggy pants and listen to rap music, and thirdly if double flips are all the rage now their doin "tripple flips" i havent seen many freestyle skiiers doing that maybe they have a differnet style than most of us but its still an amazing style all their own
