This is pretty nuts. I didn't know "swatting" was a thing. (grandpa simpson voice) when i was a kid, people would just call pizzas to your house to mess with you! Thoughts?

(source reddit.com)

Happens alot to some of the big WoW streamers especially. Guy's house got invaded by cops once because some nerd said he was making bombs. Then they still got him because they found a bag of weed.

So some guy called the swat team to raid their friends location? are you kidding?

To my understanding its viewers who watch a stream on twitch.tv or something. They think its funny to call in a bomb threat on the guy, they say he has supplies or something. Then SWAT team comes in and arrests him.

Arapahoe High School went into lock-in because of this shit. A lot of kids were subject to a lot of emotional pain because of some dick co-worker. It was real shitty to be at the school again for this, a lot of really upset people.

That kinda sucks to be honest. I'd be pretty pissed off at the police and the person that called it in.

it sucks real bad, to be honest. i heard about this on the radio a few days ago when it first happened and apparently this isn't just an isolated thing. you could really fuck someone's life up with a prank like this. not to mention, what if there had been a real emergency and those cops were late to respond because they're dealing with this bullshit. i don't find anything funny about it. at all.

call me a dick, but i laughed at the idea of some neckbeards door getting kicked in.

it's pretty serious shit man

-wastes cops' resources and time, and who knows, maybe they'll take it 5% less seriously next time they get a call...

-people get hurt and killed during swat raids. go on google and find plenty of stories of people and dogs getting shot, even in situations where they had the wrong house or something

-it was streaming so his personal info got read out loud to the whole internet

-as another guy said, one dude got arrested cause he had weed....

-dude in OP's video was in an office building running some game business (and one comment alluded to the fact that they had recently raised a considerable amount of money for charity. i mention this in case youre inclined to make some stupid comment about what kind of business they run and its worth) and i highly doubt the renters are hyped on the fact that their tenants are in a business that can lead to shit like this

etc

but yeah, the fact that they were playing counterstrike and swat dudes ran in in real life is sorta funny. i'll concede that part

Are there any forms of legal repercussions for the person that called in?

I would hope so but I think this stuff is really hard to track down

It's a shame what someone will do to their fellow man/woman

It is a damn shame. For all parties involved. Those cops probably felt like assholes when they learned this guy was innocent and just as much a victim. But they cant treat the situation any less serious than it might be.

how is that funny at all? if that happened to me id be on the edge of murdering whoever called it in..

hahahaha

this is something bombogenesis would do

Why would I ever do anything like that? Talk about out of left field.

... Anyway

Phreaker Matthew Weigman pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy including "involvement in a swatting conspiracy" and attempting to retaliate against a witness.[2] He was sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison.[3]

In 2013 a number of US celebrities became the victims of swatting pranks, including Sean Combs.[4] In the past, there have been swatting incidents at the homes of Ashton Kutcher, Tom Cruise, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Clint Eastwood.[5] A law in the state of California will make it possible for authorities to require pranksters to bear the "full cost" of the response which can range up to $10,000.[5]

In May 2014 a 16-year-old in Ottawa, Canada was arrested for having made thirty fraudulent emergency calls across North America,[6] leading to sixty charges, " including uttering death threats, conveying false information with intent to alarm, public mischief and mischief to property."[7][8]

oh sweet so i can just hire the cops to kill people n shit now? for only 10 grand? that's not too shabby.

Fucking stupid ass neckbeards. I swear to god they're the worst kind of people, if you disagree, check out Carl sherburne, this guy actually thinks it's alright to be racist, homophobic and in general, a complete asshole. Then, when people call him out for it on his Facebook page he'll reply with some smartass remark and then screenshot and post it on his Facebook page for everyone to see. Would not be surprised at all if someone like Carl did something like this.

oh yeah, if they caught him he'd get spanked, definitely a felony, but there are plenty of people on the internet knowledgeable enough to do it without it being traceable

They need to seriously fucking go after the shithead that phoned in the bomb threat. How this goes on without the source being charged is so fucking beyond me.

Not to mention how much it sucks when you're watching an arena match between two of the world's top teams and it gets interrupted because some fuck wanted to giggle quietly to himself while scratching his neckbeard and drink his diet coke. Pisses me off

such a dick move. another reason I'm not a gamer.

"I dont play video games because I'm scared I'll get the swat team called on me"

Great logic
