I wanted to bump because I remembered how I 'caught' a certain pro buying Instagram followers at one point in the last few months. I could prove it because I've been tracking the data for a while at gnarhub.com, but I'm not going to post data or names because I don't think it's necessary. This is a guy that has been around for a while and gets 100x the love on here that Gus will ever get.

Basically this guy gained 50% more followers overnight. I've checked for media, videos, press, or anything that might indicate this was organic, but there was nothing to be found. At best, someone like Candide might grow 10% overnight for a blockbuster. No one has grown anywhere close to 50% overnight in the time I've been tracking. On top of that, the skier has been losing followers every day.

Obviously there is a ton of pressure to have a strong social media presence, and in no way is Gus the only one to succumb to it.

Do you really spend your time checking how many followers someone has on instagram? That seems even more lame than buying followers on there. Who really even cares about this shit?

Analytics are huge. Every business pays to know this type of information. At a quick glance he seems to just track followers, but businesses also want to know click throughs and other types of engagements so you actually have something to show for the money you've spent doing it. He is kind of approaching it from the other side where you can see which accounts are valuable and would have the best chance of upping your engagements and why.

Wow you're such a hero for not naming a skier who does something that no one cares about.

How many pros use autolike apps or just the old follow/unfollow trick to boost their followers?

The Instagram Skier used to like and comment on all these random gaper pictures my friend posted. He did get a follow from that, but I laughed pretty hard.

I'm not above liking skiing photos, or photos or drawings similar to mine, that's the point of social media, seeing what others are doing, but I think that's pretty different than buying likes.

I'm not so much a fan of the follow / unfollow thing. Sterling Laurence did that to me, and ever since it's felt like a bit of a dirty trick.

Being active and liking stuff is all good, I just get the feeling that certain pros buy those apps that automatically like everything with a certain hashtag. I've been follow unfollowed by a few people too.

The bigger surprise here is Detective Olenick still searching for ways to remain relevant in the ski industry

Why people cheat

"The problem, he says, seems to be a very specific type of success: the kind that involves social comparison, the sort that means doing better than others, instead of just doing well. And he believes it all boils down to a sense of entitlement that beating others in sports, business, politics, or any other form of head-to-head competition seems to foster in victors."

Anyone think homosexuality lends itself to social comparison, and that there is causation or correlation here?
