Gus Kenworthy Photoshops his own photos.

Damn looks like I got here too late. Everybody forgave Gus already. I didn't read that whole sob story, but I'm sure it was really heart touching.. #stopskiing

I have a hard time believing people unfollowed gus b/c he came out, especially with the influx of followers how could anyone notice.

Twoods is a moderator, so he might have just deleted it himself. just sayin

Why was my comment deleted? Whoever deleted it own up to it, right here, and provide a reason.

I thought both of your posts were solid...? Like neither of you said anything out of line. You made a good point in a respectful way and he responded to you with a good answer. what the fuck?

Props to Gus for having the bravery to come out on this. Maybe now other people who photoshop themselves higher in ski photos won't have to live in fear of being discrimination.

This is hilarious, it's like that girl that photoshops her ass bigger for instagram but her friend that doesn't actually like her all that much has the original and calls her out on it.

He did something pretty low, of course people are going to make fun of him, but now that he's put the whole scenario in context and has admitted he's done something wrong he no longer deserves the hate. Surely that makes sense? With your logic everyone making fun of Gus should still be making fun of him, even after he's openly come out and apologised. Do YOU see how fucked that is?

Hey nut sack, my logic is dont be a keyboard warrior and talk shit it you won't be willing to say said shit to the persons face.

Youre literally being a keyboard warrior now, which completely derails your point. If you want to just end this argument now that would be great, arguments on the internet are stupid as fuck

I wasn't. Just didn't understand your point of ridiculing someone is ok but not after they apologize. But yes, let's move on. Piece brotatoechip

I don't have much to say other than that I'm sorry. I feel like a pretty big loser right now. I have talked about wanting to live authentically and then I fucked with a picture to make it more impressive. I think I have just felt the need to try and impress you guys, the skiers that follow me, a lot since I came out. A lot of you unfollowed me after I came out and that's fine, I'd actually rather that than have people following me and making fun of me and leaving hurtful comments..

What does kids being homophobic have to do with you photoshopping pictures of yourself to make it look like you went bigger in the pipe? Please don't tell me you adopted cats and photoshopped cute puppies in for more instagram followers..... ugh I don't know what to believe anymore. My world has fallen apart.

Respect for admitting you were wrong. definitely takes some guts to do that, especially on NS.

It makes me sad that you shopped that photo because it means you think we're not impressed by you already . Gus, you are one of the best skiers OF ALL TIME.

you want to impress us? Keep skiing.

A lot of you unfollowed me after I came out and that's fine, I'd actually rather that than have people following me and making fun of me and leaving hurtful comments. I spend about half of my time on Instagram deleting comments from kids calling me a faggot or worse and blocking the kids that wrote them. The thing that sucks about it though is that when I look at their pages, those kids are almost entirely young skiers. It genuinely bums me out to get that kind of negativity on my page from kids who I had hoped would've been the one's able to connect with me, regardless of my sexuality, over a shared love of skiing. Anyway, I know that after an 8 month hiatus from skiing last spring / summer because of a blown knee and then coming out publicly in the fall that there hadn't been much ski-related content on my page in a while and that my audience had changed quite a lot. That's why I've tried to go as hard as possible since my first day back on snow this season. That's why I filmed and posted the little insta-edits on the rails at Keystone and Breck to show that I was back and that yes I was a "faggot" but that it didn't change anything in terms of my skiing capabilities. Yes, I sheepishly admit that I used an app on my phone to make the picture in the pipe look bigger. Why? I don't really know. While I was posting it I thought to myself, "this is so lame. People are gonna notice" but stupidly I ignored my better judgment and posted it anyway. I just wanted to post a ski picture that would be impressive. In hindsight it was really fucking stupid and it's embarrassing to have to admit that I did that. I am not proud of it but, sometimes, I can be a very insecure person and as a result I have said and done some things that don't align with the type of person I want to be. This being one of those instances. I thought about trying to say I didn't photoshop the pic and that it was the way it was sent to me but I think it's better to just own up to it. It was a mistake and it won't happen again. I deleted the picture, I don't know what else to do beyond that. I'm sorry for being an idiot. Hope you're all having a good season so far.

I currently have so much more respect for the man for owning up to his actions. I mean he doesn't live a perfect life and he gets a lot of shit for it. Keep shredding man you rule. Alos congrats on your recent X medals. You will get over this.

Until you're an international hero athlete superstar revered as a hero in pop culture and the media, you'll never understand how bad it hurts.

Hopefully this won't come out wrong, but here it goes..

I couldn't give less shits if some skier like dudes or chicks.

This whole "coming out of the closet" thing is fucking stupid. Good for Gus if it make him feel more comfortable with life but can we please stop blowing it up every fucking where, Gus himself included. It's not a fucking excuse for photoshopping pictures and lying in a sense for thousands of fans.

You presented some thoughts, I presented mine, neither were disrespectful to each other or to Gus, necessarily... You even prefaced your post by expressing your desire to know you respected him, although you thought how he was presenting himself was questionable. If I thought it was unacceptably out of line I would have deleted it. I have no idea why either of them were deleted.

Lol at people who read gus's response about being gay and how hard it is for him and jump back on his dick(this saying is so much funnier when it's about Gus). He photoshopped a fucking picture lol I thought only 12 year olds thought about that. Also he is a role model to some people, Great example. We all need to stopskiing

really sucks he would do that, coming from a 13 y/o skier who really looks up to good skiers that should mean a lot. I did have a lot of respect for him coming out and dominating but not after this especially for an instagram pic

I feel like Gus has contributed some of the realest shit to freeskiing lately and I want to say it's rad, I'm glad, and appreciate it.

explain whats real about phottoshopping your self.

You've already heard it.. lots of factors motivate people misrepresent aspects of themselves in this world. I'm talking about on the whole. To me the work Kenworthy does to bring inclusive stoke and be an example of openness is more significant than someone landing the next trick. Building a more accepting and fun community is the next trick, to success, as I see it. I see that this is literally unreal but.. more important than being perfect is being honest about the gaps between you and your vision, because that's when growth happens.

It obviously isn't cool to do that. I don't think anyone is trying to stand up for what he did. But people fuck up and no one is perfect. It's an instagram picture for fuck's sake and it's not the end of the world. Obviously that doesn't make it any less wrong but being super critical about something so stupid is laughable.

Im probably gonna get a lot of hate for this but fuck it, this is how i feel.

Gus, before you came out i never really liked your skiing that, being said i still don't now. Its just not my style. When you came out you gained my respect, it takes courage to do something like that, especially in a community like freeskiings. how ever i did not like how you had to make such a big deal out of it. such as the ESPN mag, all the tv bullshit, etc. and currently how you are using it to defend yourself for reasons that i don't see a connection in. Such as photo shopping a picture to make your self look like your going bigger somehow connecting to being homosexual. And now your apologizing for something that you would probably never apologize or feel guilty about if Peter Olenick never called you out on it. Now all these kids are just dick so they can stay "cool" or a "fan" when really there probably pretty bummed that someone they look up to did this. The respect i had for you has been lost. And just because you apologize for it does not change my opinion. I really never thought something like this would happen in skiing. So yeah you can hate on this comment but this is how i feel im just trying to keep it real when skiing needs it most.

In my opinion this is the most real shit on this. Gus kenworthy hands down is the best all around skier. Most consistent in both Park and Pipe. This picture is from a winning run at Mammoth. It is his choice weather he wants to portray himself as a fake(by editing a photo) or real, either way we have all seen how amazing of a skier he truly is. That being said, I understand how he tied being gay and Instagram together, but I think everyone would have been much happier if he just apologized for the photo without bringing being gay and all the hurtful comments he receives on Instagram into the mix. We understand that you are gay, we get that now in 2016 there is a large mix of people who don't give a fuck and people who feel the urge to shame. (I would think most skiers don't give a fuck) Comparing a photo and calling you out shouldn't compel you to write a sob story of how your sexuality and "shaming" caused you to photoshop a picture. You have endless support from almost everyone in the ski community and being gay is not an excuse for anything ski related.

Keep killing it, just keep it real.

Skiing is his job. He makes money off how well he does and how well he represents skiing. Faking pictures of how big you go is a direct lie about his skiing, even if for just that hit. If it was some jerry like Steve Stepp obviously no one would give a shit but tens of dozens of aspiring young skiers look up to Gus. There's a big difference.

Gus deserves to get crap for this. I cannot think of any other professional skier who has done this except for T-Heed with that c-rail but no one cares about urban.

What's really hilarious is the massive 180 everyone pulled when Gus apologized then went on a rant about how mean some instagram kids are. Whoopdiedoo. I bet no other people with notoriety, gay or straight, deals with a bunch of jackasses on social media... Its probably more rare than finding a professional athlete that photoshops pictures of himself to enhance the appearance of his abilities.

What is lyfe when you got one of the top skiers in the world editing his own pictures to impress fans. I mean fuck, if you were trying to get a picture of you boosting that high, then just get a picture of you boosting that high (with a cute little American flag in the background).

Props for owning up to this but it's one of those things where trying to fix a lie by telling another lie only gets you deeper into a hole (or a closet), so might as well hop out as soon as possible and come clean..

The fact that you are sexually attracted to men is fine. That's culturally understood and accepted in this day and age. But you are a celebrity so the things you do become a lot more publicized and evaluated/ perhaps "judged." You are bummed that you have fans who are gay bashing but then you do something "gay"/ lame and cunningly alter an action photo to impress your followers. There's a weird consistency here that shouldn't be an issue if everything regarding your self image wasn't overly spotlighted.. Great your gay. If you want to help the LGBYT community and kids who are struggling with their sexual identity then do that. Invest time, money, and your celebrity influence to effect positivity instead of the focus being all about YOU.

You love attention so much that you spend time deleting gay-bashing instagram comments to maintain a certain image - stop wasting your fucking time, the gay bashing comments are part of life - leave them, that's what will ultimately make you stronger (the more time you spend reviewing, deleting, blocking those kids profiles, the more caught up you get in that cycle of negativity)

I'd call this all selfishness. One of the biggest problems we have in the world.

It's about time to slow your roll and satisfy the soul. Use the spotlight on you to promote skiing and your values for good, not to be some superstar struggling with his own insecurities by being too caught up in his own self (this is not something that kids can learn from/ look up to). We will never develop as a society until those in power can get off their high-horses because deep inside, we all our dealing with our own challenges. The world needs more transparency and less manipulation.

I'm missing the connection between Gus being gay and photoshopping a picture... his response should have read something like "you caught me! I'm sorry! \thread"

Guys you need to lay off Gus. No matter what he does with his Instagrams, he'll always be the first skier to win Olympic Slopestyle.

He has both come out as gay and admitted to photoshopping this picture. If you want transparency, you got it. What the world needs a lot less of is bullshit nonsensical idealistic monologues on skiing websites.

He promotes Gods of Egypt, photoshops his instagrams, and jams homosexuality down our throats in order to become famous. Still not a fan.

So funny to see all the little fan boys flip -flop on this site as soon as an orange name gets thrown into the ring.

Fuck all of you.

Im honestly impressed with the poignant, honest response that you made, for a while I didn't have much respect for you, sure your guy's skiing was crazy but so much of it was filled with hedonistic vibes, props for some real deep shit
