GUNS!!!!!

yes it is, but 16 is not a young age. I have been shooting guns since i was 4ish.

but It is obvious that this will be op's first real firearm in his house, and that tells me that his parents do not have knowledge of how to safely use, clean and store a gun.

hes gotta learn sometime. how about instead of thinking of reasons why he shouldn't own a gun, you put time into telling him the responsible way to handle and care for them. i know its the internet and its really not the same as in person, but 16 is definitely a responsible enough age to handle and own guns on your own. you can drive and have the possibility of killing someone, same goes with guns.

That is awful advice. Although a .243 is legal here in Canada I would never use one on something larger than a coyote. At the very least I would get a 270 for whitetail, but because he said he might be hunting other large game I would go with something like a 300WSM or 30-06 caliber wise. For guns, I have a Browning X-bolt and A-bolt, in my opinion the X-bolt just feels better and I feel I can shoot far more accurate with it. I also have a tikka t3 but haven't been able to take it out hunting yet but love shooting it at the range.

know how I can tell you have never used a .243?

I have killed a 150 pound deer at 130 yards with it, and I have a guy in my cabin that is all he uses, he harvested an elk and a brown bear with it. so it is really a great caliber.

but your cool, you use a 30-06.

i killed a deer with a .243 as well. it's an awesome little round. proper placement will bring down a deer/elk/bear. perfect because you can hunt all the above, and still use it to hunt smaller varmints without it being overkill.

Once again 95 percent of our friends own and use firearms, i am taking a basic rifle course. If we do something wrong they will help us and really it doesn't take a genius to safely handle a gun. And i may be 16 in age but honestly i am much more mature and responsible (despite my rampant drinking) than most 16 year old. I frequently get mistaken for 18 -19. I am plenty responsible.

My best friend took me shooting a month or 2 ago before he left for marine bootcamp. Got to shoot a ar15, a weatherby magnum, a browning semi auto, a semi 12 gauge and a break barrel single load 12 gauge.

I think im addicted. I want to buy a rifle so bad

jeeps and guns go together way to well hahaha if i didnt have a jeep i would of never got into guns,,i wish it wasnt so difficult to get my gun license up here in canada my first guns gotta be carbine 995 9mm rifle, i always thought a .22 would be a great starter gun but i think its kinda just a waist of money cause ur gonna shoot that and instantly want something with more bang than a pellet gun

I don't think you know what you're talking about because first of all who the fuck is going to use buckshot for home defense, since birdshot is much more suitable. Also a .223 has a higher velocity than either a 9 or a slug, and it is a 5.56mm vs. a 9 mm, or what ever the fuck the mm of a shotgun is, so it would create less drag when the target is struck meaning it would maintain a higher velocity after wards. I am not arguing that a .233 isn't good for home defense, I'm just saying ballistically, a .223 is much more likely to produce a fatal stray round than the other two.

The end was the best. Fireworks laser show with glowstick airplanes being shot down and blown up by 1000's of tracer rounds and explosions and shit?

...That's the most American thing ever. lol.

You think a shotgun or 9mm have a better chance at over penetration compared to your .223? A light on your rail for when something goes bump at night? You mean you want to give away your position to whoever is sneaking up on you?

You are steering people in the wrong direction for home defense. Honestly for the home you arent going to beat a shotgun. Sure you are limited to maybe 8 rounds instead of 30 or 40 but you have a way better chance at actually hitting someone. Also if you start dumping rounds out of a .223 at someone that round has a much better chance of flying through a window and into your neighbors house than your buckshot or slug.

Buy an AR-22, by far the best .22LR i own. plus it looks badass and you get the same training as you would with an AR-15 but is cheaper to shoot than the .223/5.56 alternative yet can fit all of the same attachements, and you always have the option of converting it to a different caliber,at least i think. Does anyone know if its possible to convert from .22LR to .223 or 5.56 on this platform? i know you can convert .223 or 5.56 to .22LR.

why would you not use buckshot or slugs??? Bird shot I mean really lol?? Do you know what you are talking about?

No he doesnt. buckshot or special home defense loads are the only way to go. No birdshot is made to kill a 200 lb animal. Anyone remember that skater kid video where he got shot point blank with birdshot in the arm and chest and didnt die? 00 buck is like getting hitting hit with 9 .380s at the same time and will turn a person into mush

Not really, 243 is a really small round. The most you should consider with it is whitetail. Sure if you put the bullet right in the right spot its gonna kill it, one of the largest bears in the world was killed by some native chick with a 22 after it cam in hear tent, it was the perfect shot. But you wont always make that shot. Its disrespectful to the animal to risk shooting it then chasing it for half a day as it slowly bleeds out and dies in pain. If your buddy is hunting elk and bear with a 243 hes a tard.

dude I was hunting wild bore with a .223 last week.... do you know how thick a fuckin big ass hog is? I was taking these things down with ease.

If you get a good shot which you should when sitting in a truck or tree stand you should have no problem taking down a deer. same goes for an elk, if you are laying on the ground for 3 hours you still shouldnt have a problem shooting an elk in the right spot. its a huge fucking animal with a rather large kill zone. For big game I chose to use a .270 which is larger but not by much..

There may be a small size difference. If i was hunting boar then i agree id probably go with a .270 or 243 so you dont blow half the meet away. But Elk and bear are significantly bigger than boar yo.

Dude I have been hunting elk and all other kinds of animals my entire life..... wtf are you talking about. I have taken down numerous elk with one shot from a 270. The size of the animal isnt the issue you here, I guess you dont get that. Its the amount of protection the animals hide gives. sure elk have a thick hide but a .270 will cut right through that shit like butter. Hell my grandfather has been hunting elk longer than I have been alive and does it way more than I do and all he uses is a .270.

anyways here is my most recent build.

I do feel like you are slightly confused as well. Blow half the meet away? We arent shooting tank rounds at these things, we are shooting rounds meant for hunting. This isnt a hollow point that once it touches something it starts barrel rolling through its target.

I don't think you can convert .22 to .223. a lot of .22 ar's are mostly polymer. Not made to the same strength tests.

That being said, after having my m4 for a while, I may buy a .22 conversion kit because the joy of dumping clips is to be had in .22 and 5.56 alike

Daniel Defense Upper

Daniel Bolt carrier group

Colt 16in Barrel 1 7in twist I believe

SOG Handguard

SOG rear flip up sight

SOG Stock

SOG single sling

Magpul PMag magazine and grip

Magpul Vertical grip

Plan on adding a surefire light, eotech(etc) and possibly a laser but I doubt it, thats a little overboard. Would like to save up for a single eye night vision setup for pig hunting but those are like 3k for a good one.

ive got two .22's ones a 100+ year old pump action 22, looks like a mini shotgun that shoots 22's its fun.

then a sig 522, which is fun as hell, great quality, got a nice red dot, and its awesome for just going out and fucking around, accurate too, and it comes with a longer/better barrel if you do more target shooting, even with the stock barrel i can easily hit rabbits in my yard from 30-75 yards or so, and hit them in the right places.

and ive also got a 22 magnum henry golden boy, which i would recommend if you're only gonna have one gun, 22 is fun for fucking around, but just too limited, the magnum is accurate without a scope out past 100 yards, still accurate to 200, but with no scope its not much use. i have a milk cartons i set out at 100 yards and can hit them every time with the iron sights. get an oldschool looking scope and you will be set. the magnum actually does some good damage, with a good hollow point rabbits explode, and i know people who use them to hunt coyotes.

and its still quiet and cheap enough to just go out and fuck around, plus the lever makes it fun.

a scoped, bolt action .17hmr would be sweet too, that might be my next gun.

Have you ever butchered your own animals. The place where the bullet passes through the animal is incredibly damaged, sure it isnt blown away but the force and shock of the bullet passing through the animal cause massive internal bleeding and hemorrhaging. Shooting an elk in the should can cause half of the meat on the shoulder to be lost. Ive seen it when butchering it later. All i am saying is that using a larger calibre like 338 or 30-06 on a boar would ruin alot of good meat.

my newest toy. AMD65. Its a small AK made for in Hungary for paratroopers and armored vehicle bros.

i added a tiny little rail so i can attach a bipod. I hate all the AR15 with stupid gadgets thrown everywhere so i kept it as discrete as possible. i also added a cheek weld to the stock for quick sight acquisition.

the bipod is just a nice option and adds a new dimension to the gun

Agree with you. I hunt solely with a .270 now. I have easily killed elk and big mule deer with the .270. All I do is occasionally use a 170 grain .270 round when hunting elk and 150 grain deer round. I only do that for peace of mind. I have shot and killed a cow elk with a 150 grain round. It is all about shot placement. Shooting a boar is like shooting a brick shit house. THey are solid fuckers. An elk is big yes but put one behind the shoulder and its a hot knife through butter.
