So I went shooting with my roommate this past weekend and he has an AK that is modded kinda looks like an M4 now, and he has a mossenberg (sp?) 500 shotgun. I love the AK but he has one already so my question is; I want a long range and super accurate rifle to put a scope and a bi-pod on like a bolt actoin but doesnt have to be. Any suggestions for any that would run under $500-$600?

.306 are a pricey cartridge. you can breathe a little easier knowing that with a bolt action long range application you aren't exactly running through rounds like you would at a handgun range or with the m4, but it's still a significant factor in the decision.

i agree. Ruger 10/22 with a bull barrel. Very accurate and super inexpensive to shoot. I have one myself with a 6-24 power scope. I can get pictures for you if your interested in seeing what it looks like. The one i have is semi-auto

just get a 3006 or something like that. you can also get a really accurate savage .17hmr wiht bull barrel and scope or like 300

yeah if you want to post your pictures to show me what it would look like that would be sweet. How much did your set up run ya?

if u are lookinbg for something nice, accurate, and fast go with a Savage .204 i have one its amazing. i also have a Savage .223 an amzing gun and then a Browning 22-250. another amazing gun. they all have bi-pods and 9x leopold scopes. i highly recomend them if u r doin any kind of praire dog shoooting. so much fun. then if u just want targets and stuff get like an AR-15 they shoot .223 they are so much fun to shoot. any of ya shoot sporting clays?? and anyone here registered in the NSCA?

I know that .22s are the greatest way to target/groundhog shoot, at least thats what my dad says.

he said long range and super accurate, and you guys are suggesting 22's?! they shoot up to about 150 yds. accurately plus as soon as the barrel heats up (after like 20 shells) it starts throwing them like crazy. please don't get that. if you want a fun gun to shoot long range, get a 22-250 with a bull barrel and leupold scope. shit shoots sooo far as well as really accurate. the gun is pretty heavy, really loud but doesn't really kick much. i would definitely recommend it.

yah i agree with everyone who has said anything about .223's, it's a pretty heavy charge so you get a lot of muzzle velocity out of it...but it's also good for plinking cause it isnt gigantic like a 30-06 or something like that. it also isnt super expensive, but that's only if you order bulk plinking rounds...sporting goods stores stock a lot of higher quality shit that you could use for hunting, but if youre just fucking around and sending metal downrange, you can pick it up in bulk online from military surplus suppliers and freaky overseas outfits. 7.62 is also hugely common and you can buy it pretty cheap in bulk, but it's a little pricier than the .223 ive found, about 20 cents/round

but yeah, you could get a .22, but those are only fun for slinking around in the woods with your friends when youre looking for squirrels and rabbits...if you want to punch a hole in a car axle at 50 yards or make a cinder block explode, get a larger bore rifle...it's just more fun

oh yeah, and for the record, the mini-14 is a very affordable .223 that is pretty fun...you can mount a scope on it, but the open sights are also pretty nice on some models...they also chamber some AKs in it...i dont think youre gonna find a lot of bolt action .223's though, for a REAL long gun with a bolt action, youre gonna have to go for a larger, more expensive round

For target shooting i'd go .17HMR.  They're fairly cheap to shoot (though not as cheap as a .22) and have considerably more range and accuracy even though theyre a smaller cartridge.  But I suppose its just personal preference.

Thank you all for all the input so far. Yeah Im looking for a rifle that can shoot really far. The farther the better. I think a .22 wouldnt be enough range. Ill try to get pictures of my roommates AK and shotgun soon they are pretty sweet!

I also shot an illegally modded AK to full auto. Let me just say that ground hog didnt make it through the experience!

^Oh yeah, oops. But I was trying to defend the little bullet, and forgot what you were using it for.

suuure you aren't

30-06's are fun, but expensive, but worth it. I sawed a small tree in half with one once when I nailed a target to the tree to sight in the gun for deer season. The bullets aren't cheap and I don't know about the gun because I've never actually had to buy one because we got about 8 when my grandpa died. Just don't get a .22 un-magnum. They aren't very much fun.

.306 semi auto......its what its all about. Its what im rocking right now, but i hunt with it. I sort of find target shooting pretty useless. But my dad has a nice 12 guage Benelli ( i think i spelt it right), changed the butt for tactical one. Shove a nice big bear slug in there, and your arm will be sore for weeks.

remington 700

ar 15 (can get pricey)

Ruger no. 1

Most rifles are more accurate than you can shoot really...

Don't buy a savage I had a little bolt 22 and it wouldn''t cycle half the time, and my dad has a savage 308 which has never grouped consistantly, even with different scopes/rings.

Also 17. hmr are cool, you can shoot 200 yards with them if it isn't windy.

It really depends on what you like and what you;er gonna do

Get one like mine and chuck a scope on it. There a fair pricey rigle but nofin is more accurate. If you want more info bout them a guy in my club is the dealer for them. I can get some info for ya. Pics in the thread i pasted below

not a clue on the cost

I hope your joking. Sure its not as powerful as some guns, but you would be surprised at what you can kill with a .22.

If you get the Ak get it from Bulgarian Arsenal. Real nice gun, somewhat cheap to shot. 1,000 rounds for 70 bucks. BUt .22 is cheap of step to the .22-250 man. No one sensibly shoots .30-06 for target like some people are saying.

Im not getting an AK since I already have one I can shoot. Oh and that picture I forgot to put the stolen bayanette (spelled that horribly I think). He stole it from Iraq and smuggled it in the states haha

round $7000 AUD haha. its my competition rifle, with no scope it can keep a group the size of a cd at 800m. If i can get the wind just right. I dont use a bipod either we use hav jackets and slings on the rifle to hold it steady.

OK come mess with me when Im holding see if you say that. Plus the AK is the main focus he just has that to fuck with.

pretty amazing, 46 posts on this thread and there have yet to be any pussy ass remarks such as "what do you need a gun for?" or "there needs to be more gun control."  I would have expected comments like that immediatly with newschoolers. Nice!!!

believe me u dont wana fuck w ith me when it comes to shotties. i have berettas 3 of them. then i got myself 2 kreighoffs k-80s and i kreighoff k-30. i could fuck u up with a shotty. ive got way more experience shooting most likely. ive been shooting my whole l ife.

one shot with a hollow point anywhere your dead. I dont care what throws it shotty wise. Plus I could just burst the full auto AK and the M4 lookin AK and blow you away. Like my posts say. Im not out to shoot people or animals just targets and shit.
