so i want to get a guitar and i know shit about guitars. one of my friends can rip it up but hes more in to electric. my parents arent going to go for the eltric deal until i get the acoustic guitar done. any brand names/prices? My friend told me to get a baby taylor for around 300$ but i want to get some other ideas.

p.s. - dont tell me to go on the search bar becuase who the fuck does that?

gibson and washburn makes some good acoustics, and estevan had an infomercal a week of two ago

why do they want you to start acoustic though?

i love my baby taylor 512. its got a super full sound, is small enough to travel with and generally is the shit. not sure how muh one costs these days though, mine is 20 years old.

i've got a real dope norman b50.. i think its the b50 anyways. was around 400 (canadian) and it's got amazing sound and projection. real beaute

whatever you get, make sure it's a maple core. such a beautiful sound man. now, it's the shit you gotta take care of (i have to put a thinger in the centre of it when i'm not using it to keep it damn so the wood doesn't crack, but the sounds projects so well, and the norman one i mentioned really isn't all that pricey.

man get and A and P guitar there made in quebec with rose bud wood and there cheap (in canada) i got mine for 175 if u live in the states tho its well worth the trip up to buy one there 2ice as much in the states

core? last time i checked, acoustic guitars only had tops, sides, and backs. spruce is the most common tonewood for tops, assuming we're talking solid top guitars here. for all solid construction, maple is a great tonewood for the sides and back, like you mentioned. but mahagony and rosewood are more common. the "thinger" is a humidifier needed to maintain solid wood guitars. for a beginner, i don't think he needs an all solid guitar, a solid top is what really matters anyways.

first, make up your mind about what kind of music you want to play, and think about which kinda guitar you could accomplish that better with, then tell your parents there fools cause accoustics and electrics are two different instruments for many different things, but ill say this, you can do a lot more with an electric, its all how you play it

man get an electric, u can play clean and it sounds like an acoustic. then u can throw in the metal distortion and jam like a real man.

ha, yeah parents arent in to the whole electric idea like i siad before. my dads a huge eagles fan in to the old stuff like that but he gavce me a speech about being "responible" and shit.

if any one here knows oar (of a revolution) i would be playing their type of music

dude, it depends, i would say go with a martin it will last you a lifetime and they have a beautiful deep clean sound, but u might not stick with it, and dont get a taylor, they are too brassy of a sound. so i probly say a fender or ibanez as ur first guitar and if you like it move into a martin or gibson

steel string acoustics really aint for beginners, your fingers will bleeds and god help you learning barre chords. get a dirt cheap electric first like yamaha or something.

oh yea, and your parent are right, dont learn on an electirc, anyone can get a clean chord out of them and a decent sound, learning on an acoustic is the way to go if yu can get a clean sounding bar chord and good at taylor picking your set

If you plan on moving onto the electric guitar shortly after you master the acoustic just search on www.ebay.com and buy a cheapie accoustic so you dont blow alot of money then buy a new guitar soon. Unless money is not an option, Go Wild :)

if you're rich get a fuckin Gibson or Taylor, if you just want to learn whats up with guitar and get an appreciation for better guitars and whats real, start with a cheap 100-120 Ibanez acoustic. They aren't crazy good, but they have good sound and dont fuck up if you take care of em. Then after you really start getting down and lovin guitar, get an electric that is your style, or stick with an acoustic and get a ballin one. That's my sound advice.

i've got an epiphone and i love it...but it wasnt exactly cheap hah it was like 900 bucks

but the quality's amazing.

ask your parents how much they're willing to spend...and then chip in yourself to get a nice one.

but are you more interested in electric or acoustic? i mean which one do you wanna spend more on?

definitely check out sites like www.musiciansfriend.com and www.samash.com and www.guitarcenter.com places like that...or even ebay

and when you wanna get an electric and get a really nice guitar for a reasonable price i say epiphone les paul standard. they're anywhere from 450-600

when buying a guitar, if you live close to NYC at all, you have to take a trip into the city tocheck out the shops and just browse around and check out Manny's and Matt Umanov's shop. The guys there are always super chill and can point you in the right direction with anything. They also like to throw in free-beeies when making big purchases. I recently got a Les paul classic and they threw in a new case sum extra strings and gave me 20% off some noise-less pick-ups I needed for a guitar rehab

well my parents arent going to put out any money but i have a job and have been saving up for a while, plus im selling my go-ped so i'll get money from that. acoustic is what im interested in but who knows, i might get in to electric if i get good at acoustic

martin and taylor are the shit if you can afford them. the guitar i learned on was a sigma, which is like a played down version of martin. kind of like squier is to fender. it still has a really rich sound and i love it to death. but i dont know that theyre even made anymore, so you could always look for a used one.

washburn makes some good acoustics. for not so much cash. This is good especially if you're not sure you're going to be playing for the rest of your life.

i got a cheap ibanez that isn't bad. baby taylors sound sick and aren't ridicoulously expensive.

dude thats so sick you live that close to martin. my dad interned himself there as a senior project and made his own -OOO he still has it its pretty dope

ovation celebrity acoustic with plug in for electric

or applause is a cheaper one same acoustic but with integrated pick up so you can still jam with it

yeah personally i like acoustic more, especially since i sing too and its really fun to just look up the chords to a random song and play it..its pretty fun

but i would definitely just go for a really nice acoustic. if you have a sam ash or guitar center near you or any local shop (they might give you discounts at local shops..they tend to do that more than the big chains do) ask the people that work there what the best acoustic is for however much money you've got

and basically every brand is awesome once you reach a certain price.. but i love my epiphone

you could just play it safe and go with a standard fender stratocaster. they're cheap and a great beginner guitar. they're also extremely easy to upgrade. its definitely the most versatile guitar on the market.

thats electric though...but for your first electric yeah that or epiphone les paul standard

not too expensive and sound great

i have a washburn - i like it alto. but, to get a good price, check all the local pawn shops. pawn shops can ideal for getting killer deals on guitars.

i'd say go for a seagull if you can afford it. They are great guitars. They have great construction(non of that ply-wood crap) and they play really well. But if you decide to buy something else, make sure the top-sheet is not ply-wood and that it is a solid tonoewood cause that is where the most tone comes from. Good luck man.

you're gonna laugh, but i'm not sure. i've had it for a long time and don't remember. i do know that it is not a top of the line washburn cause it didn't cost a whole lot - good for beginners. i'll have to check when i get home.
