THats cool. I play guitar and its fun. Only been playin for about a year though. Might be a little boring at first to learn the notes and such, but it gets fun once you start playing songs and stuff.

 
ive had 8 lessons now and its real fun. im progressing faster than normal persons cause i was taking piano before and then knew all the notes for the chords and all that, so its easier for me. Seriously, don’t excpect the first few weeks to be super fun, its rather difficult at the beginning and boring but don’t quit cause of that. If you like punk its good cause those are the easiest songs to play at first… most persons can play like all the pennywise songs after 3-4 lessons

Songs by most bands, like electric guitar and stuff are a lot easier. Learning to play acoustic well is more difficult. The most annoying thing starting out is just that your hands don't know what the hell to do. Like one finger will be always touching another string and it won't ring. Once you can finally switch chords easily it gets to be fun. The next step after that is learning to write your own music. That usually involves learning your scales, and understanding chord theory and all of that. I've never had a lesson, but hopefully they can guide you along with that, it's definitely a good thing to have guidance on. Good luck.

 
it's the best thing. i really boring at first but after a bit you get good. unfortunatley i didn't hang in there and i'm not great i still play but just for fun. im thinking about starting up again. good luck.

yea, me and my friend who share this sn both play guitar...the first couple of months are real boaring but stick with it...it gets fun

yeah.... you're gonna hate it at first probably, especially because you can play an instrument, everything is gonna sound bad. just keep pushin through.

i find the electric harder because it is so much touchier. the strings are easier on your fingers tho.

i hate posers. thanx to harvey and all who contribute to the site for makin it so kick ass. the world is my very own pot party.
 
i find acoustic strings easy on your fingers. but electric is easier cause it has a small neck and the strings are close together.

you can fake shit on the electric and as long as you put some style into it it'll sound good, you just can't do that as much with an acoustic. and the smaller neck definitly helps especially when you're starting.

ive been playing guitar for about 3-1/2 years. Acoustic is harder i think because it typically has higher action, so u need to grip tighter. but i think it can be a lot funner. Learn songs like classical gas, its fun as hell to play. also songs like tears in heaven are fun, and girls love them. but improvisation is the best thing on guitar. blues leads are so fun. once u get to the point where u can improvise, u will have such a good time playing. before that, its kinda boring.

Derek is right about improvision. I'm not too good with it, but I'm getting better from workin on my scales and stuff. It really is easy to fuck around on an electric, I was over my friends and just screwin around and comin up w/ solos that only sounded cool cause they were on an electric. Acoustic is all a style issue, it's amazing how some people play. I'm not very good with jazzy stuff like john mayer(even though I don't like him, i was just looking for practice), it's weird for me to play, but I can pick up on dashboard stuff a lot easier. It's a good life investment to play =P

 
i finger pick. its a lot easier, i think. i also think it sounds so much better. a lot smoother.

what kind of guitars and amps does everyone have? I have an Agile Les Paul copy (suprisingly good, almost as good as gibson, better than any epiphone) and play through a Vox Valvetronix 60 watt. My acoustic is a Martin DM.

I have a parker nitefly. Its awesome beacuse it has a piezo pickup on it so you switch to a suprisingly good acoustic sounds. and i have a shit squier amp.

piano helps you in every instrument. It helps you to know how to read music in all the clefs. It also helps alot for having your fingers used to moving in stupid ways to get chords and what not. Keep practicing and you'll get good and start a band and it will be fun as hell.

Hell yes! Give me a guy with a guitar anyday and I'll be one happy camper. Whoa, who the hell says happy camper, haha. It's true, though, I do love camping. Anyway, back to the subject... A ton of my friends play guitar, and my coworker, Alex, is going to start teaching me how. Drums are sexy, too. Yumyum.
