i got a guitar for christmas ... i'm really excited any good beggining songs you suggest i learn to play?

Depends on what music you like (its always easier to learn stuff you like than stuff you don't). Most of the punky stuff like Green Day, Blink 182 etc is pretty easy and quick to learn but there's loads of other things that are easy too.

just learn alot of different chord progressions and put different bar chords together to form your own little rhythms

oh and the reason theres so much easy stuff out there is that it still sounds good! you don't have to be pro to make sweet music.

my first guitar solo was metallica - the unforgiven, then i did enter sandman. the repetition makes it easy. i tried a manson solo once which was eaaasy, can't remember the song though. there are some easy solo's out there too.

that is the perfect place to start....thats what i first learned about 6 years ago...it gives you a good base...from there i went to learning metal/steve vai/hardcore type things....but i def recommend start with like blink

yea blink 182 and green day is where i started...then once i got my rythm up and my fingers faster, i started listening to faster, heavier music, (1 millino times more technical) and then u will go crazy trying to nail solos, but it is amazing...playing guitar is def. an amazing thing to do, it calms u down, and just makes me put everything into more prespective...

Blink, Greenday, early System of A Down.

Then challenge yourself, go for some Metallica, or Eric Clapton.

some easy starters maybe.... jimi hendrix, jimmy paige. ha, i kid. first learn open chords there is some greenday song that everyone always learns that is just open chords like G C D i cant remember. but yeah, try to learn all your scales and stuff, that will make you be able to solo and will make learning everything else so much easier.

learn radio by alkaline trio first. Its super easy but sounds really sweet. People will think youre better than u are if u have that one down.

whatever you guys are all gay. you can sound like the greatest guitar player ever or actually play the best guitar ever but you'll never be considered good or actually be good unless you learn to read music

as i said you guys are all faggots. learn to read music then learn to play your fucking instrument

just what the world needs, another girl who can play 5 chords on a guitar and tell everybody what a good musician she is.

Thats not nessciarily true man. Sure its defintely better to be able to read music, but a lot of the greats couldnt. Like Hednrix, he couldnt read and i think hes considered to be pretty good.

if you've never played before, you're going to have to wait a while before your fingers will be able to stretch to make certain bar chords and what not.

in my opinion, it is better if you just listen to the music and figure it out by ear. You learn more that way subconciously(sp?). i see no signifigant difference in reading tabs and reading sheet music(yes i know how to do both). its just a matter of knowing what notes are what and dynamic signatures and such. but tabs have all sorts of symbols you need to know in the professional tabs.

Do yourself, and everybody else, a favor and actually learn to play the guitar. Don't just learn to play songs. Take lessons or get a book on theory. You'll be much better off and you'll be able to understand the songs you eventually play. Don't get me wrong, go ahead and learn some songs, but don't JUST learn songs, learn to play the instrument.

ya, dont start with blink, or greenday cause you wont be able to do bar chords tll your fingers are able to stretch, unless you have really flexable fingers. the first thing I ever learned was the intro to birds vs worms by modest mouse.

you guys are all hard core noobs. dont learn shitty no talent assclown songs or rock cords. learn scales. eat live and breathe scales. memorize the fingerings first and then the notes come easy. then you are gonna be the 1 out of every 50 guitar players who has speed, accuracy, and can read music. if you start with easy songs instead you then see how scales work but if you start with scales you can figure out the easy songs, play along, and even improvise to them so long as you have the slightest shred of musical talent. when you are just chilling out carry a small guitar with you. when commercials come on, play scales, when you're waiting for somehitng to be cooked, scales. you get the picture. by using small amounts of otherwise wasted time you get nasty in about a year.

I learned to read music on my own, and the first real song I learned was 'Wish You were hear' by pink floyd. Stop talking about scales too. Bla bla bla scales. scales scales scales. It will come with practice and learning.

your an idiot and have no idea what you are talking about. music evolves around scales, without them there wouldnt be shit. you need scales in order to make chords and without chords why the fuck would you need a guitar

Scales are excellent, gives you lost of finger dexterity. But for a beginner I'd

say to learn all the easy cords first & how to strum & pick properly. then get into the scales. and no pick

and let it rip.

Beatles are real easy to start with and of course sweet home alabama. the old D,C G

three cords that made billions of dollars

Yeah learning scales, chords etc is important if you want to be able to play properly. Learning how to read at least what the different symbols in musical notation mean makes learning things easier too. I don't think you have to be able to read music totally though, there's loads of great guitarists who can't read any music.

Anyway the original question was what songs should I try and learn first not how should I go about learning to play the guitar. If all you did was learn scales and chords you'd get pretty bored pretty quickly.

first song i learned: island in the sun -weezer. i'd suggest blink 182 as well. once you learn bar chords, you can pretty much play any rhythm guitar part

hmm well actually i can read music ive played the piano for 13 years now, i dont want to be some famous guitarist i just think its a good hobby to have ... and im not going to go around bragging it just seems like something to learn
