Grouse, Cypress or Seymour?

my bad, i hit post accidentally

which of the north shore mountains is your favourite and why? Believe it or not, I havent skiied them before.. and I live in the lower mainland! I have a friend workin @ seymour this season, and another friend with a grouse season pass. Im trying to decide which mountain would be worth tryin out, I know the skiing isnt gonna be epic, but its still skiing isnt it?
 
you'd get better results for this in the regional forum, but i have a feeling grouse is gonna be crazy this year..
 
Seymour has the best park and is for the most part nice. Grouse would be my next choice. And Cypress would be the last even though its a sister resort to mine home mountain, it has a shitty park and its completely ghetto.
 
u should try em all they each have good things about them and then decide where to get a pass to,

personally i like grouse b.c it is rly easy to get to, they are also supposed to be steppin it up this year wit hthe build ur own park (byop) thing.
 
in the past it wouldve been seymour hands down but this year we shall see if grouse pulls a decent park outta their ass

Seymour, no contest. Cypress second. Then the hill in my backyard. Then Grouse.

Cypress is actually looking good to me right now... if not for the exorbitantly expensive season pass rate. Someone needs to tell them they're not Whistler Jr.
 
they all have their ups and downs. try them all out at least twice each, and then make your own decision. some people are vehemently anti-grouse, or anti-cypress simply because they've made themselves have a miserable time on the mountain, on days where it is easy to let yourself become miserable. Go up and explore, don't expect to be at whistler, talk to people, and just appreciate that you have decent skiing 15 minutes out of a major city and you can easily have lots of fun at any of them.
 
I agree with that. In fact I would even put my hill, and my friends before Grouse though.

Cypress is looking good this season, but because they cater to stupid yuppies they can charge nearly the same as Whistler for shit all.
 
I remember when I used to pass at cypress for 350 per season, and they had a spine and a couple of step ups... they never had much of a park but the mountain usually has decent snow and some good terrain variety.
 
why is everyone hating on grouse? frist hill to open. really puttin effort into their park. big ups to them! grouse is close behind seymour. maybe even better this year,,
 
Doesn't matter, it's still last no matter what they do unless they expand their terrain. The simple fact is that they have the worst snow quality with the worst terrain variety. Cypress is a better mountain, but too expensive. Seymour's just a better mountain with slower chairs.

Yeah I remember when Cypress had their park under Sunrise. It was small but they made it pretty darn sweet several times. I remember one year when they were able to stick a half pipe on the side of it and they regularly had a quarter. I also remember when they made one of their first tables, they made it a 35 footer or so and everyone that hit it made it more like a 45-50 footer and were landing flat. They ended up closing it within a day or two cause they were afraid someone was gonna break themselves on it.

The good about Cypress is that it has a decent amount of terrain and gets good snow, theyre just stupid expensive.

James, like JD said there are just things that dont make Grouse favourable, a few:

1. Lack of varied terrain.
2. Lowest base elevation on the NS, and on top of it a lot of their runs go down from that.
3. The fact that its so easy to get to makes it super tourist and filled to a capacity that isnt favourable.
 
I'd disagree. They may be stepping their park up this year (not hard...), but as mentioned several times before, the lack of terrain does get to me. I enjoy skiing out of the park - the one thing you can't really do at Grouse. Once you stray out of the park, you've got like... what... 7 decent runs? I still go though, since it's the closest. I'm not a big fan of Cypress, but I have to agree their amount of terrain is more favourable, however shit their park may be. I haven't been to Seymour much, so I can't really say much.
 
honestly if im riding a shore mountain i dont really expect more than a park and a few groomers.

but its all a matter of opinion
 
you guys are wrong. I'm sorry, but there is a lot of really good, steep tree skiing on Grouse with minimal or no hiking involved. I'll make a short edit this year to demonstrate my point. If you actually explore the mountain instead of just considering purgatory the outer reaches, you'll end up finding some pretty sick shit. the problem with Seymour is that its completely flat. If you hike up above the ski area, then its great. Otherwise, the maximum slope within the ski area isn't greater than 30 degrees. Cypress has tons of great, steep tree skiing.
 
Grouse is likely going to be the best for park (this year), and is super close, but has its obvious limitations that were stated above.

Cypress has some really good skiing out of the park (which might also be better this year due to their snowmakers and superpipe), but is very pricy, and is a bit further of a drive.

Seymour has the skiers/snowboarders, not tourists feel, and a good park, but there is absolutely no terrain to ride, and the chairs are so damn slow!

Go to all of them for different experiences. They're all good for their own reasons.
 
i agree with what you are saying about grouse. there is definately a bunch of good skiing. definately steeper longer terrain than seymour for the most part, however just like grouse seymour has some hidden jems that are on par with some sick tree runs on whistler. they are hidden as fuck and i wont begin to explain but there is good stuff there as well. i think all the local hill have these fun areas but you just have to find them..

i have always hated on grouse but im over that. its a sick hill and you guys should stop raggin on it! want to know the reason everyone is hyped on seymour? cuz everyone there knows it sucks, accepts it, and makes the best out of what it is and is pumped on it. just like everyone should be about grouse.
 
I look at the top of Seymour as having a kind of similar feel to Fraggle Rock and Crystal, only bigger... the amount of random stuff you can find is just endless.
 
^ plus the girls are easy. haha j/j but there are some sick abandoned houses in the woods you can gett fucked up in.
 
If you are skiing Cypress, Grouse, or Seymour you cant be expecting any real serious terrain or snow qaulity ... If you want good terrain go to baker, whistler or any of the other places within reach. Ive skied seymour the past years and it has been fun but have moved to grouse this season as seymour just doesnt put much effort into anything. BYOP sounds legit so hopefully the park at grouse is good this season.
 
yeahh i checked out the baker site today, looks pretty bitchin up there, Im gonna be hitting it up throughout the winter break (my family has a cabin @ snowline, bout 45 minutes from the ski area)

Well, myself and Haywood have been shredding Grouse lately and it has been sick. There are actually some pretty decent pillow lines around and we have been hitting some sick 30 footers too. There are other items we have our eyes on but have yet to hit.

The park is shaping up decent too. Looks like they will have a permanent 40+footer table and the new S rail is mad ill.

Obviously its no Whistler, but there is still stuff to get your heart pumping.
 
Yeah. There are some decent tree lines at Grouse too. To get the most outta Grouse you gotta do some exploring.

Just outta curiosity, has anyone ever had their pass/ticket pulled at Grouse?

i like grouse the best because their park game is good right now and will get way better with big tables for north shore. if im riding shore mountains im only there to have fun and practice park pretty much. when the snows good there is some good runs with some nice cliffs.

do you guys go farther than outher limits for their tree runs?
