Grind Pole

I am making a grind pole and a jump in my backyard. I was wondering what would be the best material to use. I know metal is good but i have seen many videos with wood grind rails? If i use wood do i have to freeze it with water over night?

 
dont use would because it will get soft and then it is really easy to catch an edge and die

I built a wood rail and I haven't noticed anyproblems with it yet, we spray painted ours though, maybe that makes a difference

if you paint it you should be alright. make sure to coat it well so that you seal the wood so that moisture can't penetrate and soften it up!

you could make it out of wood structure then just put some plate metal on it, it's really cheap to get a strip. You can probably get it for free as most people buy large pieces and there is leftover trimmings.

Um...in reply to some1s post...u said that you should make the rail out of wood and cover it with a metal strip. I did this in my back yard and i thought i should just warn you. If you use a fairly thin strip it will get little kinks and dents in it and you will probably fall and mess up your edges. What works however is if u take two metal pipes of decent thickness(about 2-3 inches wide) and support them using an old door on its side or something it will work very well. To keep the rail on, nail two board, one on either side of the side of the door and poot the pipes in the middle. The attachment should look something like this i00i

can you buy PVC in strips instead of in pipes?

i used PVC and it works fine. cheap, flexible, and plenty fast. plus it doesnt hurt as bad if you crash. i just scrwed it on a 2x4 and it works fine.

 
you can get hockey board stuff, what they use on boxes at lfa or whatever that farm store is called

yea pvc's ok for a straight rail, but if your making kinks its bad to use.. to ^^^^^ that guy, I think thats plexi glass is too brittle to use as a surface, and how would you get the metal to stay on the wood, you can drill through it..

well i wasnt talking about plexi glass i was talking about the white flexy plastic they use for the boards, and thats what they use cause i emailed a few resorts, if i could find some good sheet metal i would bend it around the sides of the 2x4 so it covers the sides and top, then ide drill through the sides anbd screw it that way

oo sorry about that, well its just I'm building a new rail and I don't kno what to use for the surface, dun want to use metal, pvc doesn't work good on kinks.. I need some help here. what works as a good surface
