nice thread chase
instead of the sth16 like that one guy suggested i know where you can get some jesters(16 din also) for cheaper ($250) than sth16s($300) would be. but we dont charge hard at all i beleive you had your scratch 120s set at like 5 and a half and popped out like maybe once when they shouldnt have all season. but 12 din should be good with the sth 12 ($199) and the Griffon($230).
I'm putting some griffons on my hellbents. I'm 5'7, 140. The highest I will go on my din is 10, right now I have the heel at 9, and toe at 8. Either binding will be good for you, but the griffons might be better with the wider screw pattern.
there's no reason for you to get anything with a spring that goes higher than 12. you'll be setting your shit at 9 or 10 at the absolute highest and the sth 12 will accomodate that just fine. i like the salomon's better than the markers. they're cheaper, and i'm pretty sure they're a little lighter. also, the screw pattern doesn't matter. it's not a tiny fks heel pattern, so there's no need to worry about it.
I have sth 12's and they are sweet. durable and real light.. THe problem with the sth 16 is the lowest you an have the din is 9 which is quite high. So if you think u are goin to be running round 8 or 9 . id go with the sth 12's.
id say the griffon. Id say go with salomon, but the three hole design they use on the STH 12 and 14 toepiece never seems sturdy when you mount them. I like the 5-hole pattern for the heelpiece, and I do like the old S series toe the STH 16 has, but the slider on the new toe pieces is kinda cheap IMO.
Jester would be the best but if you don't want to pay as much that Griffon will be killer. Skied the same Marker for 5 years now, 50 times each year, never had any problems and had them mounted on three different pairs of skis.
