Ok, I'll admit that I'm old enough to have seen bands like Black Flag, 7 Seconds and The Descendents play live....seen Fugazi like ten times....

More into IDM and underground hip-hop these days...but some of my favorite punk bands all come out of the DC scene...Circus Lupus, Nation of Ulysses, and The Monorchid (my little brother was their bass player)

 
i used to like yellowcard...theyre pretty good live, but now i think they're annoying...like their new little ep is gay

 
fuck, get your definition of punk right, we are not talking about emo or pop,

my favourite band (and im serious) are the clash and good riddance,

the best punk bands ever would have ot be the clash, the ramones, iggy pop, misfits, black flag, minor threat, sex pistols, and many others

the early bands set the stage, iggy pop was playing in the clubs before the ramones, but the ramones gave punk a name, sex pistols and the clash opened up the brits to the scene, minor threat promotoed the whole straight edge scene, black flag was better when rollins joined (in my opinion) , misfits are awesome no matter, although danzig by himself is good too, if only they wouldnt put mother in every single skate vid... haah

and like good riddance is good beacuse they havent sold out, they stil make political music, pennywise sold out so they are no longer one of the best, i also think the murphys are one of the best because they have such a fun live show filled with energy, same with flogging molly, i know im missing some, anti flag is good too they promote many things with which i can agree, and there are more too

bands like saves the day and stuff are emo, they might be a godo emo band but you seriously can't compare them too somethin like the clash...

This could be disputed and debated so many times over. There are so many contentious issues in here that have been beaten to death a hundred times over already, on these very message boards, and shitloads other. For example what's punk music and not, what's good and not...how about selling out? and posing? It all sounds a little ridiculous...I mean of course your all entitled to your opinions, and that's what this whole message board thing is for, but realize that a lot of this sounds over the top.....I don't even want to address the specific bands and what not...I used to be into quite a bit of punk but I found other stuff that pleased me more but my favorite 'punk' bands, and don't blame me if they don't fit your definition of punk...I know half of the stuff that I select from the punk stuff would either be viewed as cliche, shit, sold out, not in the genre, or just something you haven't heard of but I think my favorite punk band is Gob

i don't get what everybody's problem is wioth blink 182!! why the fuck does everybody hate them so much??? They never claimed to be good punk. That just makes no sense to me!

People hate their fans more then they hate them. Their fans are the ones that claim they are punk rock, their fans are the ones that try to classify them in with other, real, band. Blink 182 fans represent the height of conformance with the MTV culture.

Everyone who posted any pop-punk/emo/wanna be political punk band...(such as Blink, Yellowcard, Taking back sunday, anti-flag, pennywise) Please go kill yourselves. I mean seriously that is some of the worst music ever put out under the lable of punk. I saw blink well before their MTV days opening a show in NYC and they were attempting to be punk and probably are one of the worst band I had ever seen. Oh and to the mention of Black Flag, they are amazing but first of all they arent even punk (they are hardcore), second Dez was originally the singer but thats besides the point. Damaged still is one of my favorite records ever put out.

Often times a bands enclave of teen followers gives them a bad name...such is the case with Blink 182...I mean...c'mon...their not THAT bad...

 
*STRUNG OUT*, PENNYWISE, PULLEY, UNWRITTEN LAW, FACE TO FACE ...all very classy bands. Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, and The Starting Line are pretty sweet also.

Blink 182 was a ton better in the days of Dude ranch, and some of the time while Enema of the State was new....but their new albums have good music....but, DEFINENTLY is not punk!!but i still like it.

AFI is by far the best punk band there is no way anyone can deny the sheer talent that they display and the amazing lyrics of davey havok. their music has so much energy it gets me so pumped to ride

 
i will vouch for the previous mention of afi... however they themselves claim to be a hardcore band... im not too big a fan of art of drowning, but ill support all previous releases... (its not that i dont like AOD, just not as much as i liked older albums like answer that... with tracks like cereal wars, how can you go wrong?)
