seeing as a pencil 12 is cooler then a switch ten first hit in the eyes of the skiing masses, gt has that shit on lock. look for a comback in 2008.
 
umm no, im pretty sure they are exactly the same, and that greg tufflemire actually tought dumont how to twelve sixty. and gt can do them down 40 foot pipe gaps.
 
i love how when gt was in xgames pipe and did 1260s everyone thought they were horrible and the worst thing ever, well maybe not everyone but most people. Now that dumont does one everyone thinks they're so sick. They both did exactly the same thing, dumont never got in a grab and completely hucked it
 
hahaa yea i know, everyone follows the fad of ski stars. gregs are like 100 times better cuz he either grabs tail or has a really big cross in it.
 
minus the first hit dumonts enitre run was hucked. he should not have even podiumed. in my opinion (which doesnt matter at all) olenic got robed
 
X games is the starter of spin to win in present competitions. I can see back in the older days when a 7 was cool then a 9 so people tried to spin past that and they were almost garunteed a win but now the spins are becoming too fast and it makes me sick to watch them spin over and over.
 
notice how a snowboarder stomped a 1260 in mid-pipe and got scored poorly in snb-pipe finals.

Tanner did a sw10 1st hit and still managed to carry more hight than anyone but Simon!
 
Tanners sw 10- Not grabbed, not stylish, and pretty awkward, especially the last 360 where he had to "hula hoop" it around, not to mention clipping the deck on landing.

Dumonts 12 - Not grabbed, not stylish, but at least it was big, smooth, and landed well. At no point was he fighting to get it finished like Tanner did.

If they were both done equally well, then the edge would obviously go to Tanner, but Dumont's 12 was executed cleaner, and landed better.

 
No, I'm not commenting on who should have won or anything, just trying to promote a more reasonable discussion comparing those two tricks.

It seems like everyone is either saying that the 12 sucked and the sw 10 was perfect, or the exact opposite. I think the truth is that they both had strengths and weaknesses.
 
Ok, i DO NOT like tanner hall, at all, but dont rag on him for squaking like a bird during his switch ten 1 time, if you would ask him to do it again he'd prolly land it clean as fuck and it would be very impressive.
 
Really? Any kind of switch 10, no matter how well or poorly done? You should sign up for one of those events where all they care about is "degree of difficulty", with absolutely no regard for anything else.

Yes, a perfect switch 10 should beat a perfect 12, everybody knows that. But Tanner's switch 10 was by no means perfect. Neither was Dumont's 12, but it had less flaws than Tanners sw 10.

Compare the following-

Grabs- Neither one was grabbed, Tanner tried but failed.

Amplitude - Dumonts 12 was higher

Style- Neither had dope style, but at least Dumont was not fighting to get it around like Tanner was.

Landing - Dumont landed better.

So... even though the sw 10 is a "way better" trick, it shouldn't be judged on that alone.

 
I want to see someone switch ten first hit, then i want to see a set up air to nose grind the whole deck the whole way down the rest of the pipe.
 
tufflemire has got more then a great goggle tan and rad ass hair he is a pioneer, years ahead of his time. just wait 4 more years and the cool thing in skiing will be drinking beer hanging around the midwest hucking yourself
 
tanner grabbed opposite safety

and both were done at the same height

and dumont landed low in the transition if you're really getting picky

and who are you too hate on two of the best skiers in the sport
 
Whoa dude, not hating at all!

I was just trying to make the debate a little more realistic than the one that seems to be going on (where each side tries to pretend that their favorite skier did the trick perfectly while the other was pure shit).

People are debating the judging of the two, so the points in question are about things judges might take into account.

I think that both of the skiers and tricks were fucking awesome. And I didn't comment on who I think should have won.
 
alright, not grabbed, not stylish, and awkward are pretty condemning words for "fucking awesome" tricks. But yeah either way the 10 vs 12 wasnt why tanner won. the judging difference came down to tanner stompin his other tricks a little better i believe.
 
OK, point taken about the hating, although it wasn't the intent.

I was trying to look through the "critical" eye that the judges would use. And honestly, I do think the switch 10 was not that stylish, and really awkward at the end, but at the same time it was still fucking awesome.

But anyways, I agree with you that it was not just about the 10 vs 12. I think Tanner most likely won because he was working both sides of the pipe well, whereas Simon was really uneven (amplitude-wise) with regards to left and right walls.
