It’s funny that the ppl that have never been in Greek life have the most shit to say about it. Like if your in college and you are not Greek, you are not affected at all by free life. Greek life should not at all bother you if you have no association and it will not at all affect your college experience. That said, ppl in Greek life have the opportunity to meet 100 times more ppl than none Greeks, through date parties, mixers, late nights, etc. also you get to meet the finest women on campus that are usually filthy little whores.

I've been involved in greek life at CU. You are kinda forced to join as a freshman guy because of how strict Boulder bars are with fakes. You basically won't be able to party if you aren't in a frat. Now that I'm 21 I'm far less involved. Made some good friends that I ski with a bunch now. It was fun but if you can go to bars with fakes at your school its not really worth it.
Also dropping bars in chicks drinks is incredibly fucked up. If you need to drug girls to get laid you 110% deserve to go to prison. That shit did not and does not fly in the chapter I was in.

I was just walking home (intoxicated) and got into an argument with a drunk frat dude, it ended in him calling me a "5 foot 4 chicken McNugget lookin Fuck"

I'm sure it varies by school, but I cant imagine at any university the greek girls are the cream of the crop. UNR is exceptionally bad. I did find that most greekers i encountered were somewhat nice, even though a lot of them were straight up tools/retards.

I remember my first day at UNR I went to some Greek seminar thingy for freshman because my buddy was looking to join....leader of the thing stands up and says literally, "Greek kids are better in every way, we get better grades, we have better lives, we have better jobs, we are better people, and if you aren't in Greek life you aren't as good"....

Maybe UNR just has shitty greek....but it definitely turns me....and a ton of people off from it. Multiple drug rape scandals, multiple kids have died, hazing, yada yada. I've got friends back home that are greek....maybe it's better there

I definitely can see why greek life gets a lot of hate, it's pretty toxic at most schools. I can also see the appeal of greek life as well, its really fun as a freshman/sophomore.
It's obvious neither side is going to change their mind and thats fine. I just don't see a reason to hate on people because of their choice to join or not join greek life.

I'm not involved, but seeing my friends join a sorority or frat and then having their facebook wall flooded with overly enthusiastic posts from their newly purchased "friends" was always hilarious. It seemed incredibly fake to me, but my friends drank the koolaid. Never went to frat parties after my first week at university, being forced to wait in line for half an hour by a bunch of drunk dudes with backwards snapbacks only to be let into a half empty frat house with sticky floors and shitty EDM mixed in with the occasional basic bro rap was enough to put me off of them for good.
Definitely not for me, but I see the appeal for a certain kind of people. They can also be very good tools to make connections for business or just for socializing, but the frat culture was so awful I never wanted any part of it.

the whole "paying for friends" rhetoric is so old and played out. you pay fees to join a lot of other clubs and organizations at a university so how the fuck is that any different? if i join a hockey team and need to pay for joining it to be on a team with other ppl, does that mean i am "paying for friends"?

I have a couple buddies that pledged Phi Delt and Sig Nu at my school and after seeing how they were treated by actives and the reasonable standards they were held to it has almost convinced me to rush in the spring. The pledges are required to log a certain amount of study hours per week, and multiple kids in their respective pledge classes have gotten booted for poor behavior.
I really think greek life varies from school to school and from frat to frat obviously.
