Greed...

Since this is my 2000th post i figured i would leave NS with a sick song and some philosophical discussion. This song by Swiss rapper Emm has a clip from Wall Street at the beginning. For those who don't want to listen here is the quote...

"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better

word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts

through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in

all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has

marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will

not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation

called the USA."

the vid. i hope it works

My question to NS... is greed truly a good thing for humanity, or is greed going to be the downfall of mankind, in which we destroy each other for personal gain.

Discuss, and enjoy.

imo greed has become the bane of human existence and will lead to the ultimate demise of the human race. We cannot fully cut our ties to fossil fuels because we are greedy. Oil companies, car companies, probably pretty much every industry is currently reliant on fossil fuels in one way or another, and because of this, all these companies stand to lose profits if they were forced to somehow stop using fossil fuels (directly or indirectly). Our greed for money somehow outweighs the health of our own planet and I see this as a problem. Another prime example, crime. Of course not all crime is based on greed but in a lot of cases it is. Why would you steal something instead of purchasing it? Assuming you're not a clepto it is because you can't afford it but you WANT it, your greed for it causes you to break the law, something that has been put in place by our government to protect us from ourselves. Of course this is not the case for all thefts but I'm hoping you get the idea.

Maybe that makes no sense and I'm looking at it all the wrong way. I suppose greed for knowledge is good, if not necessary. Anyway, that's just my opinion. haters gonna hate.

I think it's a bad thing to an extent. There definitely needs to be less of it in the world, but i think there is a certain amount of it that needs to be present to enable things to get done in the world.

Modern medicine for a large part is also derived from greed. There are very very very few people in the world who can honestly say they are not at least a little bit greedy. From taking an extra 5 minutes on your break at work, cheating on homework, fliping that rare jiberish/saga you have or just wanting more and doing whatever it takes to get it, all of us are greedy.

a lust for money is a huge reasons for the technology and incredible capabilities we have. Sure it screws some people over (third world countries) but as a whole, the human race greatly benefits from greed.

It is also easy for me to talk about how greed can be good while im sitting in my $300,000 house with my couple thousand dollar car in the driveway at my couple hundred dollar computer, occasionally watching my several hundred dollar tv. Im sure really poor people (and no, absolutely none of you are poor) in different parts of the world would feel much differently.
