Greed

I post almost the same shit in every political thread, but no one ever gives it any thought.

you do not need millions to live happily or comfortably. you don't even need 250k+ per year. my dad makes less, and I have everything i could want or need. I don't feel my family deserves a tax cut, we go out to dinner 5 times a week which is fairly wasteful when you think about it. more money would just mean we'd buy more luxury items.

that's because my family is past the point of really needing every dollar to get by. and we aren't rich. if we don't need any more money right now, then why the hell would we need tax cuts if we had a lot more money?

but they worked hard for it right? but I work hard at my part-time job. I may not have to use my brain, but believe me, I'd much rather have a challenging term paper to write that required busting my ass than frantically make coffee for rude people for hours on end. just because a job pays more doesn't mean its shittier.

stupid idiots on the site go on about welfare (practically nonexistent and has been since clinton) and how poor people don't pay any taxes (funny, I make about 8k a year and I may not pay income taxes but I do pay a considerable amount of money to social security and medicare).

but we are not talking about income redistribution. we have a huge national debt, a fucked up economy, and I don't feel that giving rich people a break is fair in any way. if I was rich I would still have the same opinion, because as an upper middle class white kid I have so much more than I really need. the good news is most of america feels the same way as me, which is why mccain's reagan-style campaign isn't working. for fuck sake he'd give tax breaks to the very people who caused the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

i agree completly at a certain point i dont think any more money will really make you happy but people always want more

I totally agree with you. And anyway, it's not like this would make rich people poor, it means rich people have to pay slightly more in taxes. They will still be rich. Also, people talk about preserving capitalism and democracy, but I think the skewed wealth distribution in this country is as much of a threat as anything. The super rich are becoming an aristocracy in this country and really control all the power, and when people feel powerless, thats when the shit really hits the fan.

i agree i have enough to keep me happy and i have enough i feel to keep anyone happy but the thing in a capitalistic society is that some people are greedy and that greed can drive them to do great things. like think about it. how many people have said oh i wanna be a doctor because they get paid a shit load. well then they become doctors and the rest of the world benefits from it. then there are those that want to start their own companies to get rich and then they do and they make an amazing product to make the lives of middle class families a little better. nothing wrong with that. i don't feel like we should charge just the rich people more for taxes i feel we should charge everyone more for taxes. i mean like the top 5 percentile of income people pay like 50% of taxes or something ridiculous like that.

dude I think you think that this will do more than it actually would. This isn't communism. Doctors will still make a shit load more than janitors.

that's because the top 2 percent control over 50 percent of the nation's wealth. that makes sense.

but also the very idea that it takes hard work to make money is flawed. I fucked around in high school and now go to a decent college. yeah I work hard sometimes, but a lot of the time I'm just partying. I'll go to grad school and work hard there, but if I didn't, I'd still make a lot more money than other people who work harder than I ever have in my life each and every day.

anyways I'm glad some people agree with me.

well im just saying that your greed can drive you to work harder. it is true that osme people get lucky and can be super lazu and make millions but some others make millions because of their hard work.
