"Greatest scam ever"- John Coleman on Global Warming

You moron.

You just compared human respiration as being on par with the effect of ALL plant life, in the ocean as well as on land, in the world. Think about that for a second.

More CO2 is released by one volcanic eruption such as pinatubo, or st helens, than the entirety of human ACTIVITY, ever, period. Human exhalation is INSIGNIFICANT compared to anything that could possibly cause global warming. Holy crap dude.

By the way, methane and sulfur dioxide, all resultant from POLLUTION, also affect the greenhouse effect. Of anything, water vapor causes the most warming. Co2 is not the only factor, and climate certainly isn't that simple.

Chill. It was a conjecture. I really don't give a fuck if you believe it or not, I wasn't suggesting it as the cause of modern global warming. I just posted that original comment because I thought it would be interesting to consider. And it is, think about the overall consequences of overpopulation.

By the way, remind me of why we should bother to go more "green" at all. If, as you say, a single volcanic eruption makes the entirety of our efforts to destroy the environment seem puny and insignificant, I don't really see the point. Carbon dioxide might not be the only greenhouse gas, but it still is one.

Look, the point is that human BREATHING means shit all to the environment. Everything else does.

Now, why go green if volcanoes outweigh us? Because volcanoes are natural, and what they release, the Earth can handle. What we release is not natural, it is in addition to the system at hand, and we have the ability to destabilize the natural feedback cycle. Which can either mean we're precipitating an ice age, or starting a warming cycle that doesn't end like it normally would.

You're right, CO2 is a greenhouse gas. But do you know about methane? Sulphur dioxide? CFCs? Those are also hugely important. Especially the latter, because it destroys ozone, which reflects most of the UV (highest energy, lowest wavelength) rays from the sun.

Look, human breathing is the LEAST of our concerns. Everything else we do easily negates breathing.

Forget about the breathing thing. I put it out there because I thought it was something interesting to think about.

An excessive amount of CO2 is harmful in the atmosphere, right? I mean seriously, Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his presentations on global warming and his presentations revolved mostly around the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Why should volcano CO2 be somehow safer than human emitted CO2?

Also about the volcanoes, if I remember correctly, volcano eruptions are an essential part of the shift between global warming and an ice age. The world warms up, volcanoes erupt, the smog blocks sunlight and the earth is plunged into another ice age if I remember 8th grade physical science right.

So which is it, are volcanoes an element of global warming or cooling?

I'm really curious, I don't know a lot about global warming. Basically all i know I got from Uncle Al's movie.

Volcanoes are part of the cooling process. Yet they release tons of CO2. What I'm getting at is that climate isn't as clear cut as more CO2 = higher temperatures.

Volcano CO2 is safer because it is part of a natural process. The unearthing and burning of dead animal and plant remnants is not. Thus, what we contribute to the atmosphere is in surplus of what exists naturally. So, while we may not be directly warming the climate (though evidences suggests we are to some extent), we certainly are loading the system up with more than occurs naturally. Now, we have no idea if we will overload the system and create an unprecedented warming phase, with natural negative feedback thrown out of whack, or if we are merely precipitating the next ice age.

We simply don't know, no matter what Gore says. Either way, as long as we emphasize a case in pollution, we're doing good for ourselves.
