Greatest 24 Hour snowfall....

I saw on another thread that someone was claiming Mt. Rose for greatest 24 hour snowfall with a whopping 76 inches. If that's true, kudos.

...However...there was a lot of hate toward Colorado and it's "lack" of intense storms. I'll give the Sierra's credit, they do get wicked storms. Tons of winds and heavy wet snow. However, the Sierra Nevada Virtual Museum claims this....

"Second greatest United States 24-hour snowfall record: 67 inches (5.6 ft.) January 4-5, 1982. The old California record of 60 inches in 24 hours was recorded at Giant Forest in the southern Sierra Nevada in January 1933. "

"The North American and world records are held by Silver Lake, Colorado, which received 76 inches (6.3 ft.) in 24 hours on April 14-15, 1921."

Bridger Bowl got shut down by a storm a couple of years ago.

I forgot how much it was, but it was in the running.

WAIT WAIT WAIT, is this true???? in the last 24 hrs, the site says they only got like 20 inches so far, but i am going to be optimistic and hope to do some sweet car runs tomorow morning!!!

I heard that snow in utah can be 12-60 inches of snow to one inch of water or whatever. I think thats why the east doesn't get as much snow because its a higher moisture content and orographic lifting.

Haha, its funny there's a thread on this because I spent WAY too much time this pm looking for info on these statistics. According to NOAA, it was 63 in somewhere in CO, but I'm sure that's only including NOAA stations. It's really hard to find verifiable data on this...

Bridger got something like 76 inches in 24 hrs, stayed closed and ended up opening the next day with 100" of fresh. That was a good day.

....i live and breath mt rose and my brother lives up near them at the reindeer lodge...and hes already gotten like 3-4 feet...and thats like 2000-3000 ft down from the summit of rose
