Great Parenting

are all of your posts in this thread? seriously drop it. some people play with dead squirles and some people dont. refer to my sig about people born after 1990.

LOL the kid is like 5 years old. she doesn't even understand the concept of death and the process behind handling a dead animal less you want to be considered playing with it.

and you obviously missed my 'moral of the story'

so here it is again, stop worrying about what other people do when it doesn't effect you.

you must be some whiny condescending bitch in real life. i feel sorry for anyone you come in contact with.

Ny-steeze, on the topic of parenting and the immune system, Id advise you to

*puts on sunglasses*

Get educated

YEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

I'm actually an educated college student from NY but nice try bud. I'm sorry your parents didn't let you leave your room when you were a kid, but the fact that the kid was handling a freshly killed squirrel and was gonna take a bath right after is not a big deal. If you think thats bad parenting then you can go fuck yourself

i dont care what you say about my after this post but i would like to say sorry, i guess you guys were right about somethings

Clearly you didn't grow up in the country. Anyone that grew up in a rural environment will realize this is not a big deal at all.

My apologies, i thought i was talking to somone else... Just being an asshole.. Id shit a brick in the city at night for sure.

lolol

There are reasons why people that grew up in the countryside generally have a higher life expectancy. Playing in a non-sterile environment with all possible things to toughen your immune system is one of them.

We aren't clean freaks by any stretch, but there have been some outbreaks of bubonic plague here in Denver. For those that don't know, bubonic plague is carried by fleas. It would be tough to live with myself if my daughter contracted bubonic plague because I let her play with a dead squirrel.

But you can pick up diseases from anything. Fleas are everywhere, and rabies can be carried by ANY mammal. Yet, if this was a video of a dad putting a deer he'd just shot into his truck or something and his young son petting it, no one would say a word.

letting your kid play with dead animals is retarded. what the fuck kind of message does that send to them. next time you happen to not be around, the kid finds a dead bird and plays with it, then goes inside and eats something with her hands.
or worse yet, the animal actually isnt dead but just knocked out, and when it comes to, fucking mauls the shit out of her in fear.
i certainly wouldn't start losing my shit if i saw my theoretical child doing that, but i would definitely let her know that you shouldn't touch dead things, like i'd let her know not to touch weapons or go into cars with strangers, and i would make that point very clear and not fucking giggle about it on a video camera.
sure, nothing is LIKELY to happen to her, but why risk it? if you can avoid touching dead things, please do so. i can't think of anything positive that can come out of the whole situation, but i can think of a few bad things. dont just play with it because you CAN and you PROBABLY wont contract any sort of illness..
there's a difference between being overprotective and sheltering your child from the horrors of real life and teaching them to not do things that can only end up badly.

I used to poke dead squirrels with sticks and fling them around like a catapult, but I sure as hell didn't touch 'em!

I touch dead things at work all the time, it really isn't that terrifying. I kind of doubt that just because she once picked up the squirrel that her dog killed shes suddenly going to go around hunting for roadkill to play with. Besides, kids that young have parents watching them. Once they're old enough to play without supervision, they know not to pick up rotting animals.

I'd rather raise a kid to NOT flip out and be a douchey germophobe all the time, personally.

Besides, if on the off chance it does come back to life and god forbid scratches her in an attempt to get away, well, then she's learned not to do that again, hasn't she?

Is that all you from Anathema's post? Really?

He was saying that's exactly not how he envisions raising a kid, but rather teaching them about what they probably shouldn't do. Carrying around carcasses of dead animals is one of those things that probably isn't too wise for anyone, no matter if you have to touch dead shit at work, good luck with that anyway.

sorry i dont like playing with dead animals, guys that makes me a pussy because apparently people from the country love doing this and they are badasses

That may be true, but there have been cases of bubonic plague linked to squirrels, but I have never heard of any in Colorado linked to any other animals except prairie dogs.

Touching a dead dear seems different than rubbing a dead squirrel on your neck and face. I'm not a hunter btw, but regardless, I don't think I'd be too stoked about having my kids petting any dead animal.

Dead animal story:

I road my motorcycle to a friend's wedding in Vail. Post wedding it was raining and I was drunk anyway so I hitched a ride with some other friends. The entire way home in the car I had to listen to them bitching about how the bride and groom had not thanked them enough for their assistance with the wedding. I told them to stop the car, because I was sick of listening to it and would prefer to walk home, even though it was about 3 miles away and I had to cross I-70. They wouldn't stop, but finally had to when I opened the car door and started to bail out while they were still driving. This was an ill advised, alcohol influenced decision, but I felt that I was going to hurl for the wrong reason if I had to listen to them anymore.

I was wearing a suit and there was no moon so it was pitch black out. I started walking down the bank so I could cross I-70 and I tripped over a low barbed wire fence and landed face first in a road kill deer carcass. It was not a fresh one either. I think I hit a rock at the same time because my face was ripped up and bleeding pretty good. Since I had rotting deer in my mouth and open wounds, this is probably the worst case scenario for getting violently ill, other than making it a late night snack. After taking an extremely long shower, I was fine and had no ill effects. Don't try this at home though.

That's a pretty gnarly story. Sounds like you're lucky you didn't catch anything with a rotting corpse and flesh wounds.

you generalize way too much. We never said we liked to play with dead animals, just that what happened in the video wasn't bad parenting. Also I'm not from the country so stop making dumb assumptions that make you look ignorant as shit

And cell phones give you cancer. You can get sick from literally everything. Sometimes you have to just let kids be kids, that's all I'm saying. Kick them outside and let them do their thing. I'm not saying let her go poke around and eat rotting roadkill, but I really, really dont think what happened in this video deserves the sort of outrage it has received.

Who cares some of my friends used to eat dog shit and bugs when they were that age, its good for ya!

fuck you thats not the point of my post at all. I'm saying kids should be able to play outside and get dirty and not have ppl like the OP freak out over 'bad parenting'

I agree with you. Truth is that sending your kids to school especially pre-school is way worse than having them handle dead animals. They're exposed to so much crap. I'm not really worried that they aren't going to have a healthy immune system by the time they figure out how to keep from wiping snot and worse substances on each other.

You learn from experience, so even if she picked up a knocked out animal that so happens to "maul" her then she will be more than likely to not do it again.
I think its actually funny that she doesn't realize that its pretty unsanitary and acts as if its a stuffed animal haha. I also highly doubt that any contact with a freshly killed animal will give her illnesses unless its something like flees. I just dont see any harm by it as there parents are aware of the situation and take the appropriate precautions.

easyeast-"that was was messed up he just straight lets her play with a dead squirrel who does that??" this.
idk but i don think it was great parenting that they let her keep playing with it and instead of taking it away they video taped it. i agree that is was good they didnt yell at her but i think it was wrong that they let her keep playing with it
