Great idea. BIG summer rail jam (not a backyard one) in albany or some other place.

Heres an idea, except i dont want to be the one to organize it, sorry.

However my idea is pretty easy.

Rail jam this summer, in a street or something, like 40 kids, big audience, sponsored by shops.

Go to shops, sell the idea, get the rail jam going.

could be very successful.

It would be great to have it in Albany/Troy/Schenectady. one of those

something like they do in boston or in colorado in the summer

won't be in a city, but we'll be having another rail jam and film premier at togg on oct. 25th. gonna be bigger, better, and super legit this year, planning has already started, i'm way pumped...

Thats basically what im organizing for my mountain for this september. (my mountain managers are slow to respond) but were holding it at the local ice rink the weekend after a 5 day tournament so the snow will be in huge amounts. and were trucking in some rails from our mountain.. yipppeee

i heardddddddd, that there is supposed to be a HUGE railjam like tha 28th i think, in albany, my friend who's a boarder got like e-mailed or somethin to take our crew there

maybe you could get something going in downtown albany like during lark fest or something get some radio coverage to get the idea out like through EQX or some of the othe albany area stations

Im not sure if they would allow it during Lark Fest. Unless maybe they held the jam at Washington Park. Thats a possibility. Though getting ahold of EQX or any other stations in the area would be key. Publicity is good.

Has anyone on here ever organized one of these before? I work for someone who is best buds with the Mayor in Albany. If you could get me a full on proposal of what you want and need for this to happen and why you want this to go on, I would do my best to get this to him and see what we could do. I think the main issue will be insurance for the event but we could just do up some waivers for the riders.

Im definitely down to help out on this and think its a great idea! Just keep me posted and Ill do my best to see that we get the ball rolling on this

I have no problem helping to organize this guys but Im going to need way more info than I originally thought. So if you guys want this to go down we gotta get started on this. Here's what I need....

First and foremost, where would we get the rails and boxes? Jiminy seems like the most logical source considering they're only 45 mins or so away. But how to go about that? If anyone works there or has "ins", please get ahold of them.

Snow. Where to get it? I know theres an ice rink out by the airport but not sure about a closer one and would we truck it in? If so, how? Rent a truck? If we do that, its going to cost us.

Liability. The City will need to know that no one and I mean absolutely no one can get hurt and in turn sue the City. Waivers I believe are our only source to cover that.

Where to have it held? I was thinking of State Street in downtown because the incline is absolutely perfect but the only issue with that is the downtown area is dead on weekends. Maybe thats good, maybe not. Or Washington Park which is up off of State and Washington Ave.

Other ski shops "sponsoring" or "donating" to this. I know Ski Market is up in Latham though they're more of a high end gaper ski shop then a freestyle shop (please correct me if Im wrong) so Im not sure what or if they would even help us.

Now Ive spoken to one of my bosses who just so happens to be a Senator (yeah I'm fuckin claiming that shit hahaha) and he's going to make some calls for us and see what other avenues we need to take and go from there.

What I need is the questions above answered, I need to know how the city will "benefit" from this, how this is different from any other event held in the area, etc.

Any insight you guys can give to this would be superb. Im pretty stoked on this-it has the potential to be a great fuckin time!

Lesley, I think a good idea for you to do is to talk to Doug or Jason about this. I know that Jason is less busy, and can help you out with some advice on how to go about this, I'm sure (not 100% positive, but pretty sure).

A friend of mine and I went to return 100's of water bottles from the restaurant, so we rented a U-haul truck, which wasn't that expensive. The one we rented was smaller, but only cost us $18. If you used...maybe 3 of those...it could definitely hold enough snow. Look into that.

How could it benefit the city? It's holding an event to attract a different crowd. A younger, more hip generation of people. Not to mention something like this is FUN. It's a great way to get outside and enjoy the weather. Even if you're not a skier or snowboarder, watching these events is always a shitload of fun. So outsiders would have a blast as well. Also, having a radio station come and sponsor it would be GREAT media. Something you should definitely look into. I don't remember most of you last post, I didn't quote reply, but hopefully I helped a little bit.

Yeah I was thinking of that too but really wanted to get the basic stuff covered. Im talking to quite a few people right now about this and I think I can get the permit or whatever we'll need from the city no problem. Good to know people ya know? hahaha

So basically what Im doing right now is making an outline of what I need and how to go about it so its easier to read and mark off.

The radio station idea is GREAT and its on my list but honestly Ive never been very good about writing out proposals. Speaking? No problem but to get the goods from my brain onto paper never quite works out well hahahaha-must be all that beer and greenery ;)

Ashley thanks a lot for your insight on this if you think of anything else you know where to find me

I would call around to some mountains in your surrounding area. Like Hunter, has a bunch of local shops. I'm not sure about the Windham area, but check that out as well. I can talk to the local shop here at Belleayre, he's more of a gaper shop, but is the one who sponsors the Belleayre jams. I don't know how "local" these places have to be.

I hear ya. Im going to come in to the office tomorrow for a little bit and get some of this done.

Jiminy seems to be the closest mountain to us. I highly doubt Hunter would want to lug some features up here

Just a thought: See about maybe letting some shops have booths, to maybe try and get rid of some of lasts years stuff. To "rent" their booth, they can donate some swag. win/win?

You need a resort to get behind this or some huge organization already set up with riders to thier insurance. Risk Management being what it is, will, likely shut your idea down. I hate to be a negative nancy but... I have yet to see an impromptu rail jam happen without a resort. Contact Rogge, I think he is building a program at West next year. Might be a great way for him to get that off the ground.

Oh wait, I do know one. Also try to contact Seth Warner of Boston Ski market. He did a big one about 2 years ago.

You need someone experinced in event promotion and direction.

Just to add something in. i myself went and got snow from the albany airport rink yesterday, and their pretty damn low on snow. it did rain the day before, but still...

might wanna think about dating it shortly after a big hockey tourney?

as far as snow goes, we could get snow from multiple rinks

albany academy might have some, not sure if they do summer hockey leagues there, but capital, near airport and frear park and the knick are all in/around downtown albany

You're in luck my friend. West Mountain is going to be KILLING IT this year with features and a killer terrain park. Contact NS Member markus@skiwest for more info.

In regards to the rail jam, I'd love to do something like this but this fall I'm insanely busy. I do however recommend contacting Mark at the NS name above and asking him for his help. He's one of my best friends in the world and is completely rebuilding West Mountain's terrain park from the ground up. This stuff is right up his alley!

If you guys do have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to help guide you through the process/put you in contact with the right people.

AND, Sunday September 21 I'm bringing the Poor Boyz crew to West Mountain. Yep, you heard it here first. More details to come out later but lets just say I'll never forget where I came from!
