Waiting for ski season to start along with the release of this movie might kill me.

Thoughts? I'm predicting the collision will happen in the first 20-30 minutes and the rest will be cerebral and philosophical as hell. Will be cool to see how Cuaron will handle an hour and a half of, well... floating.
 
You'd probably hear a fair bit with rapidly expanding heated gas from the ISS. In a vacuum, there's nothing to keep it from expanding so it does so extremely rapdily
 
I just can't take George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as astronaughts

Does still look kinda good though
 
based on the contents of the trailer, this will be 2 hours of watching them accidentally and repeatedly letting go of the space ship wreckage and struggling to reach for it again...Followed by a completely unrealistic/absurd way of getting back to earth.
 
This is what I thinking. They're going to continually miss grabbing some strange object and be hurdled into space onto to do the same thing again.
 
just like all other movie threads on ns, 90% of the replies are boneheaded comments from people who enjoy movies like Act of Valor, but this movie looks really good, i can't wait to see it.
 
I have a feelingl it might go the other way with them realising they're not going to get back.
 
I think it has potential, so I'm not going to assume its 2 hours of floating in space.
 
But then what? The crew floats around in space aimlessly predicting their deaths, that doesn't seem like a good watch.

From director Alfonso Cuarón who has made some absolutely fantastic films so I have pretty high hopes for this film despite some of the good points in this thread.

(He directed Children of Men, I seriously recommend watching this film if you haven't already, also was the producer on Pan's Labyrinth, another must see).
 
The best tracking shot in all of cinema. I can't believe how they managed it. Even better than the ones in Saving Private Ryan, Elephant (gus van sant's), Goodfellas, etc.

After looking up some info, the only cast lister are bullock and clooney, which kind of disappoints me. Part of what made Apollo 13 great was the ground crew and families trying to cope with the situation and search for a solution. But seeing as there are only 2 cast members, im not sure where this movie really has room to go past the initial accident.
 
You'll like the sound of this then, wasn't gunna go into details in my first post as I didn't think anyone would care but rumor is this film not only opens with a 17-minute long take, but has an average shot length of 45 seconds.

So hopefully we'll be seeing more incredible shots like the one you posted.

that being said, it's based on the short story "Kaleidoscope" by Ray Bradbury.... which is an AMAZING short story that I highly recommend. However, since it's a movie, the movie will have to have more action because that's all anybody wants in a movie and as a result they'll have to sacrifice the thought-provoking part that made the entire short story.
 
That was not one shot. The red blood dots went away when he got inside the building. The water would have evaporated or dried up but there would have still been a residue. Unless the cameraman wiped the lens mid shot, there's no way thats one shot.
 
lol people hating on this have never seen a movie directed by cuaron, beyond stoked. also im pretty sure the blood was added digitally if im not mistaken

It's not real blood, it's mostly a water with food coloring because it's just for the spray and not up close shots.

Cameras, especially ones used for cinema can get REALLY WARM.

Water evaporates on warm surfaces, especially if it's in small amounts.

There is not one person that has ever disputed that it was one shot.

Even with it fresh on the camera, unless pointed at a bright object, it doesn't show up.

Again, you are a fucking moron with not a fucking clue about what is going on. Fuck off.
 
Just finished watching this in 3D. I thought it was a great movie. The visual effects are insane and incredibly beautiful. The way the director used only two characters for most of it was very well done. I might just have to buy it when it comes out.
 
clooney never should have brought bullock into space with him. he says to conserve oxygen and she's panting like an idiot
