Hey guys I'm looking to see if anybody has some real good sites, books, other forums, or other resources about graphic design? I'm kinda of just looking to gain a better understanding of it and gain some knowledge on it. I've been really stoked on Behance.net but I'm really looking for sites or books where I can learn some more. I'd really like to learn some shit about typography, since it seems that's what I've gained a liking to lately.

Honestly man, all the forums that I've been to are either crappy, or are full of a lot of really pretentious assholes who think they are the God's gift to design. I have sometimes seen really good crit in the typophile forums. (www.typophile.com)

I also get my daily dose by looking at a couple websites that are updated pretty much daily:

welovetypography.com - daily pictures of interesting (not always good, but always interesting) type from all over the internet

cpluv.com - hit or miss. sometimes some cool stuff. Not a ton of design, but it's generally interesting.

prettyclever.tumblr.com - the blog of two graphic artists from chicago, updated with images of things they like daily.

underconsideration.com/brandnew - high profile rebranding critique. Read Armin's writeup, then read the comments. always interesting, but so many people post so fast there's no point in joining the conversation usually.

underconsideration.com/fpo - print only work. Lots of tacky wedding invites that offer really cool printing ideas. Gets you thinking about print design.

lovelypackage.com - exactly what the name implies; wonderful packaging.

I used to look at behance, but for every good portfolio on there there's about 20 mediocre ones. It's not a bad website, I just found myself turned off by a lot of the work in there.

There's a lot of bad design out there, and a ton of terrible information on the internet. If you want to learn about type, reading books is going to help you a lot more than seeking out info online.

I'll make some good book suggestions when I get back to my house this evening.

Hope that helps!

Forgot to explain. That website is basically where the big guys can go and show off their portfolio to a community of designers and potential clients. Sort of like a NS of design/typography without the bullshit.

Behance is where everyone with photoshop go to show off their portfolios to other people with photoshop. It's like a slightly classier deviant art.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of good work in there. But for every good work, there's a LOT of really mediocre work.

Try and find an invite to Forrst.com
It's an invite only community for Designers and Developers to share inspiring code, snapshots, and links with peers.
I have been on it for a couple of months and really like it. I am an IOS developer and was a little disappointed to see that most of the code that is being shared is php, HTML or CSS, but I do enjoy seeing all of the "snaps" people post of their graphics. the few times that I have posted I have received very positive and helpful comments and criticisms.
Another similar website is Dribble.com, but it is only for graphic designers, and is more of a "show and tell". It's also invite only.

^ If you want an invite just pm me. I forgot to mention, this website won't really help you learn anything, but will definitely inspire.
