This is the first year in a while that I have to pick the Poor Boyz movie over the Level 1 movie. After Dark was ok...but very hard to follow. Grand Bizzare was actually really good, it had a better flow and was a more balanced movie, and I think it's more worth the watch than After Dark...but that's really just my opinion I guess.
Grande Bizzare was really disappointing, it's better the second time around knowing what to expect. The music was really bad but there was lots of urban so you might like it. Not much park, mostly just urban and powder. As for after dark well I wouldn't know cause I haven't seen it but i'm gonna start the download tonight, it looks great!. Hope this helped.
At first I wasn't overly thrilled with After Dark but I find the more I watch the more stoked on that movie I get. The Russia segment is pretty badass, P-White kills it like usual and the closing to Ahmet's seggy was pretty funny. An awesome Sun Valley segement with some pretty sweet park shots in the whole movie.
The Grand Bizarre is your straight up ski porn. None of the segments really stand out in my memory right now, LJ's urban and Leigh Powis straight up killing it. The Stept crew has some sick park shots and so does Byron.
grand bizzare definitely as much as people r complaining about the music in it the music in after dark was 1000000x worse, also after dark was too scitzo for me to try and watch a second time whereas in TGB u can just watch the segments you like easily, also has many more extra features than after dark
I mean, it was not completely solid, not by any stretch, but I couldn't stand Grand Bizzare. That is not to say there wasn't any bangers or solid moments in GB, but it was not cohesive and was just inert.
I felt eye trip was still better than After Dark, but if we compared After Dark to GB then After Dark all the way one point is I felt better music for the parts compared to GB made it feel more steez imo.
both are great movies and you cant go wrong either way. GB defiantly has more progressive skiing and more bangers, so many shots from that movie leave you dumbfounded. After dark on the other hand, had very stylish skiing and very good editing in my opinion. To me Level 1 is a better edited and compete product whereas grandbizaare is all about ski porn. As the guy above mentioned, i find that level 1 has more replayability, but i certainly enjoyed grand bizzare waay more the after dark the first time around.
basically it depends if you want the immediate satisfaction , or a great addition to your collection for years to come.
I honestly can't watch a ski movie over and over again it makes me ancy. Somebody forced me to rewatch royalty last weekend because I was too high to move, and I was like fuck I saw this ten years ago. No but honestly, royalty was better than either one.
i have both on itunes and to be honest i watch like 3 segments from level one repeatedly (p white, chris logan, and ahmet) but i from grand bizzare i watch almost all the segments repeatedly (minus the pow skiers with rock song segments)
i really liked grand bizarre. my only complaint was that there really wasnt much rhythm to it, it just kinda skipped from here, to there, and back again. but my jaw dropped several times watching it. some great segments, notably leigh's, lj's, and sammy's. yes, it was a little long and drawn out, but i really enjoyed it.
After dark. Probably my favorite level one flick ever. And that's ahead of long story short, and that's saying a lot.
The cinematography and soundtrack were absolutely amazing, and people who are saying otherwise are probably not open to types of music other than biggie and wannabe dubstep (skrillex, mt Eden etc.).
Great flick and I would recommend it over grand bizzare. That being said, grand bizzare was a pretty good film as well, and either will get you stoked on riding this season!
To me both we're really good films, more focus on the skiing than the flicks I usually like. That's kind of a good thing though since there's been a lot of interviews, lifestyle shots and scenic views these last few years.
To me it's definitely After Dark because I like the music, editing and the skiers more. It's more focused on individuality and style and they brought a different soundtrack than the usual this year so they got my vote, top 10 of all time in my book.
Still props to PBP for not overusing dub and house crap and for giving the more individual riders more time than the compskiers
