Grab vs no grabs

afterwatching dew superpipe I've figured out that i like seeing no grabbers with clean style tehn a grab that makes the spin looks weird.

I liked aj's nine where he wasnt goign for a grab but just looked in total control then most people right 9 with a late "grab" where they basically just put their hand on the skis.

by the way tanners shiftys and doreys baller ness made me jump off my couch.

I'll have to disagree with ya there.

Riddle had the dopest looking run in my opinion and I would much rather watch him ski pipe than someone who is just hucking spins and not grabbing. Yeah, smooth hits are sick, but why stop there? Shouldn't people be trying to throw smooth spins with grabs? Riddle's double grab was the sickest thing I saw today and would love to see more skiers throw different grabs in their runs.

I hear your point but at the same time i disagreee.

I know there is more then no grab but when grabs are just added to a spin to give more points then they just suck.

riddle's grabs are just there and he's one of the only who have good grabs on EVERY hits.

I always yought that Riddle should have scored higher in pretty much every comp he entered just becausethat his grabs made the tricks better instead of just being there since no grabbers were "BAD"

Thwe whole thing is that I think that grabs are obsolete if you can make the trick look REALLY REALLY good without them.

I'd ratehr see AJ'S no grab 9 to absolute stompage then any of the barely grabbed 9 I saw today.

Yeah so true, I guess I didn't read your initial post that well before replying...

Oh and a shifty in the pipe = the sickest thing ever

noobs take lesson and have polite, well worded and thought out arguments, just like the one between Mousseau and Ced above me.

yea... no grabbing is cool. when i was back in ontario and just hitting the park all day i'd try to grab everything 'cause that's what you did. since i've moved out west and been skiing the mountain grabbing happened less and less.
when i'm skiing and hitting side kickers and cliffs usually my skis seam way far down there and bringing them all up to grabbing range seams like too much movement for what the rest of my body is doing. that and i've stopped caring so much about my park style 'cause I know my park skiing won't take me anywhere... this has allowed me to start throwing park tricks the way I feel like at the time without thinking about what is expected... ya know? cork 5 spread eagle to late 180 anyone?

i completely agree with cedric, grabs shouldnt be forced just for points. for instance, i dont think too many people are calling wallisch out for style on ns, so ill show this vid.

the first grab isnt forced at all, and the ones without grabs are just as good looking. personally i dont think the grab/no grab thing matters, it just has to look stylish.

Cedric, you're totally losing credibility in my eyes with all these rants. I respect you as a skier but seriously, chill the fuck out and do your own thing.

dude, no man. it's discussions like this is what NS.com is truly good for. we're talking real shit here... i'm too drunk to keep going right now, but I'll get back to this.

i sort of agree, but you have to factor in that Wallisch's no grabs were smaller spins on large jumps His cork 3 and sw 3 were slow spinning, where as aj's 9, which i thought was dope and the most comfortable 9 i saw, was in the pipe, where there isn't as much air time. If people keep doing big spins like 10's and up with out gabs, its going to looked hucked. I think there was a discussion about the jon olson judging thread. Jon said that grabs allow the sport time to progress because bigger spins, doubles are going to be thrown but the grabs are going to limit the spins, flips, and corks of the rotation. I agree in that fashion, but basically, if you can look controlled, smooth and comfortable in whats being thrown, with out a grab and witout flailing your arms, than it'd probably be dope.

sorry, I'm not really ranting, I'm just expressing something that Ihad on my mind.

I've been thinking about it for a while and after watching AJ kempainen pipe run it made merealisethat he made his tricks look a lot better then most people did with grabs.

That being said I'm not gona start grabbing my skis as I feel they need to be there in my skiing, i just wanted to point give my opinion to the he didnt grabhis skis so he's gona get deduction kind of mentality.
