I figured this may be helpful to some people on NS to get better understanding of certain grabs

ok i did searchbar it and one came up but it isnt very helpful and is like 5 years old so this is a guide to grabs please correct me if im wrong and feel free to add your own. ok here it goes

Truckdriver- where the skier grabs both outside edges (in front of the binding but behind the tip) with both hands.

Tailblunt (true tail) - from my understanding the skier grabs the tip of the tail and crosses their skis in-front of the bindings. (toxic is similar just instead of grabbing the tail you grab behind the binding before the tip of the tail)

mute- where the skier crosses the fronts of the skis and grabs inside edge (could be outside not sure) of the ski

tail grab- you grab the back outside edge of the ski

safety- where the skier grabs the edge that is under the boot

japan- where the skier grabs the ski behind the binding with the opposite hand, for example right ski grab with left hand or vice versa.

double grab- where the skier grabs one hand inside edge on either sides of the binding on one ski, for example left hand in front of bindings on right ski and right hand behind the binding on the right ski

those are the ones that i know well but ones im not sure of are octo, critical, phil, genie, lui kang, nose grab if anyone knows any of those or any that arent listed please post the grab and an explanation

these are the grabs from what i know if im wrong please correct me hope this helps

sweet thanks. and an octo is when you cross your skis and grab in front of the binding of one ski and behind the binding of the other ski

if u want to do a good job find pictured for each 1. There was a sweet thread about all the spins a while ago wiht video for each. Really helpfull.

If it doenst say opposite, asume your grabbing same ski on same side

Saftey
- Grab the outside edge that is under the boot

Mute- Grab the opposite outside edge in front of or at toepiece

Tail-
Grab your outside edge behind your heelpeice

Japan- Grab opposite inside edge behind or at heelpiece

Nose(High Saftey)- Grab outside edge above toepeice

True Nose- Straight Forward, it is the tip of the same ski

Tail Blunt(True Tail)-
Grabbing the end of the tail

Toxic- Tail grab on inside edge (now it is just called a tail, toxic is not used really anymore)

Critical- Same as mute, but the inside edge

Inside Saftey
- Grab the inside Edge that is under boot

Seatbelt- Grab the opposite outside edge under the boot

Phil- A crossed nose grab. Reach Across and grab outside edge of ski

Octo- Phil grab and Tail (Toxic) on different skis

Cruton- Grab Inside edge above toepeice with one hand, and japan with other.

Truckdriver-
Grab both outside edges above the toepeice (double nose)

i would have done more but my ride is here for COP three is also like nose mute and a bunch of others

dont forget about the backpack- hands behind your back over your shoulders like your trying to touch your shoulderblades, bring your tails up to meet your hands.

I think of double grab as a category all its own. Dub tail, dub mute, dub nose, alternating mutes, alternating tails, mute to tail, tail to mute, jap to mute, mute to jap, jap to tail. yeahhh

spread eagle crotch grab

you jump, spread legs and skis apart, reach one hand inbetween you legs and grab your package whilst throwin the other hand in the air,

make sure you land wit your skis back together and avoid screamin seaman lol

and my newest invention... the Half/jap. named after my two best freinds who both have half japanese girlfriends. gram mute (as high as possible) and also grab japan. it looks kinda rediculous. but cool.. kinda...

ok, so, does anyone know what the hell its called when you like, cross the back of your your skis, kind of like an iron cross, but backwards, idk, its fucking wierd though.

you also forgot the cossack, nutter butter, paper cut, lawn dart, sailor.... not to mention technical terms like leading mute, shifty, n such

there are so many things wrong with this thread.

someone that has the time and knowledge should make this.

people that don't shouldn't try to stunt

hardy har har nice pun

guys what about germans, kossacks, twisters, spreads, splaffies (i call splaffies kossacks anyway), daffies, kangs, hunt-a-knees, leg pumps? granted these are not grabs, but still...

compliments of rekker:

Before reading this, Id just like you to know that this was my best attempt at this, and that it took me two hours to get this together. I have a huge archive of good NS videos on my computer, but its damn hard finding the original pages in the video section of NS.

Another cool note here too: These are all videos from NS members! Way to go guys, some of these videos are damn classy. I kinda had fun making this because I got to see how much talent our members have. We rock! Check out the videos below if you dont believe me.

(Disclaimer: If you see yourself in a video that Ive used and want to have it removed (for some reason I really cannot imagine, you did post it for the public) then just PM me, Ill talk to a Mod and get it removed for you.)

Thanks, enjoy what Ive come up with:

Cork

A cork is a off axis spin that is leaned back, but so that the rider does not go inverted at any point. It is a popular trick, and many pros and amateurs do these very well.

Bio

A forward corking non-inverted spin. Note the lean the rider has forwards at about 360. Also, see CR Johnson in SM2, SM3 or Propaganda, he does them best.

D-spin

Set the same way a cork is, but is more leaned back. A d-spin is essentially any cork where you become inverted. In all of these videos note how the feet will go above the head. Evan Raps does these very well, also see Mike Douglas.

Rodeo

A rodeo is not an off axis spin like a cork, d-spin or bio. It is a spin with a FULL inversion, aka, the riders feet at some point in the spin go directly OVER his or her head. See Mark Abma in Yearbook for a very sick and slowed down Rodeo 7. Also, Mike Wilson rules at these, see Ready, Fire, Aim for some huge ones.

http://media.nscdn.com/uploads/member/videos/1149447399Abma%20rodeo%207.wmv (Yes, could be a flatspin, but it looks pretty vertical to me. Looks very close to a underflip 7 as well)

http://media.nscdn.com/uploads/member/videos/1149449723Seth%20Rodeo.wmv

Flatspin

Flatspins are very close to rodeos. They are thrown almost the exact same, but the difference is that in a flatspin, the rider never gets completely inverted. Heres a way to think about it: A line extending through you from your head to your toes when you stand up. In a rodeo, this line ends up completely inverted at some point (although your feet can be somewhere else, like leaned back in a tail or a mute or something) while in a flatspin, this line never reaches true vertical. The line between what is a rodeo and a flatspin is understandably very blurry, especially when one considers tweaked grabs and such.

Check out Corey Vanular doing one: http://www.orageski.com/en/team/team_2_video.html

Misty

A Misty is the counterpart of the Rodeo. It is a spin with a front flip. Note in these how you can see the skis go OVER the persons head and wrap around.

Underflips

An underflip can easily be mistaken for a rodeo or a misty. Its an odd rotation: a 90 degree turn off the lip, followed by a lincoln loop up the hill (head faces jump followed by feet) to another 90, landing backwards. See niklas karlstrom in teddybear crisis up the step-up, or in X off of a small snowbank. Vincent Dorion also does these well.

-720 (these are really hard to do, this is the only good video I could find)

http://media.nscdn.com/uploads/member/videos/1129409310underflip7.wmv

Overflips

Baisically the opposite of an underflip, commonly mistaken for a misty 5. 90, lincoln loop downhill (feet face jump followed by head) to another 90, landing backwards. see mike wilson in ready, fire, aim or in superpark 2. These do look almost exactly like mistys. Searching on NS, I could only find one video of an overflip, and it wasnt that great of an example. We need your video!

You see, these suck, we need better ones.

Backflips and Frontflips

Pretty self explanatory. Here are some don in my favorite style incredibly huge.

Lincoln Loops

A single inversion, with no spin. Basically, just a cartwheel, where the rider flips to the side, doing a barrel roll. These are usually done off cliffs, especially when Seth Morrison is around.

Kangaroo Flip

Jon Olsson, Sweedish wonderboy, pulled off this trick at the Jon Olsson Invitational this year (2006), blowing the other simple spins out of the water. Its a double flatspin by many peoples terminology. With Mike Wilson pulling off double corks, expect to see more of these double inversions in the near future. This will no doubt make this guide a whole lot longer.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this brief and far from ultimate trick dictionary and guide. As always, I expect your criticism and mockery, but I hope that this will help clear things up for some people. As always, please discuss and comment, message me with better videos, that sort of thing.
