Gov. Jerry Brown Bans Open Carry of Long Guns in California

I refuse to answer this, since I know how you feel about California.

Nothing anyone says is going to change that lol.

again, this is stupid. California already had too restrictive gun laws.

For people talking about murder and shit. Open carry long guns....when was the last time someone who legally open carrying a long gun used it in a murder? good thing murders care about gun laws.

really it does nothing though. Very few people even open carry, let alone open carry a 12g. I carry either a 9m or .380. never have I thought about carrying the AK or 12g. lol at people who think this law is going to change anything

the same reason the constitution gave us the right weapons in the first place, to protect your self when the government becomes corrupt, starts to realize there on the outs and the People feel like there current government isn't representing them, and need a regime change, so they start preparing them selves by doing things like I don't know.....slipping in little things like making it legal use the military on home soil against civilians, or detain citizens indefinitely with out trial..........which, of course, they promise they will never use........

he said half kidding half frantically looking in other tabs how to can food and buy bulk crank powered flashlights

what about the people that like to legally shoot guns at targets and like to legally hunt which produces direct money for the dnr or such of your state.? the weirdos can get guns illegally, and even if they fail at that, guns arent the only way to kill people.

were people running around the streets of California with long guns in their hands anyway? obviously anybody who was already doing this isn't going to stop because of a law. I say we let the ghettos have all the guns they want. they can kill each other if they please, just don't come out of their little area and start fucking with regular people.

One step closer to tyranny. Prepare for the Communist States of America. The right to bear arms is fundamental to our rights as a US citizen.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. -Thomas Jefferson.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. -Thomas Jefferson.

Hahaha wow you're an idiot. Do you mean NRA?

National Rifle Association ftw.

You've probably never shot a gun in your life, it's okay champ. Maybe one day you'll venture out and have a good time hunting.

& way to stereotype pro gun supporters. LOL.

haha, i'm gonna try and translate your reactionary crazy person speak to english... you think california's drug laws and gun laws "are designed to keep people unarmed and doped up?" you really sound like youre looking for a reasonable debate....

good. we should be moving in that direction. i'd be way down with USSSA. no rights for rednecks/libertarians (aka counterrevolutionaries).

yea NRA are a bunch of freaks too. i've hunted before, that doesn't mean that i have an inferiority complex and have to carry a gun in public. i'm sorry you feel that way tho.

I think you're trying a bit too hard to be like Gnartron right now, your sig, and your profile picture.

And you must really know a lot about the NRA man, because you can't even spell it correctly! How about you stop being a judgmental asshat, and tell me why the NRA are freaks? Because they believe that everyone should be able to own a gun?

You're so bad-ass bro, I don't even know why I'm feeding this troll.

i have no idea who gnarton is.

NRA is full of a bunch of old white men with inferiority complexes that are uncomfortable with the direction the country is going (women's rights, growing power of minorities, moving left economically, etc.)

This is no suprise coming from California. They cant ban guns outright so they come up with legislation to chip away at our rights bit by bit so people dont notice. When people do things like in the open carry video they are just trying to expose the whole politically correct "oh no some people got scared or their feelings hurt' bullshit that has infected this country. Most people that own guns just want to protect themselves and thier family and not rely on useless cops that often come 10 min too late only to show up and shoot your dog for barking at them instead.

Obviously no one is forced to live in California. If you don't like the laws move to Arizona or Texas I am sure they'd be glad to have you.

I can't fathom what supporters of this law think it's achieving.

There is no problem whatsoever with open carry of long guns. Almost nobody ever does it, and criminals especially don't do it. Think about it: if you were going to kill somebody, would you make a show of carrying your gun down the street? By openly carrying a gun, you make yourself a prime suspect in any gun crimes that may occur in the area.

The only thing this law will do is make it harder for the people to fight back if the government becomes tyrannical again.

First, and this is off topic, but the same tactic is being used by republican legislators in Virginia and Mississippi to eliminate women's access to abortion. They can't legally ban abortion outright, so they impose specifically targeted regulations that drive up the cost of running an abortion clinic to a level where no one can afford to. I really don't see a lot of the people complaining about infringement of their fifth amendment rights by an overreaching government also complaining about that.

Second, it should scare people. It'd scare the bejeezus out of me if I saw some rando wandering towards me carrying an AR15. Until that dude starts firing, he hasn't committed a crime, and no one can do anything to stop him. And you guys are worried about the government becoming tyrannical?

Reminds me of this: http://www.calgaryherald.com/opinion/letters/Nose+Hill+Park+confrontation+makes+visitors+feel+unsafe/7050028/story.html

JD, the abortion thing is funny, did you ever consider that maybe abortion rights are not nearly as essential to the fabric of american society. Ignorance is bliss with respect to firearms i guess. You wouldnt be scared walking by me because i dont have my AK slung on my back but youre oblivious to the 380 in my waistband

Damn, this is sad. next thing you know they are going to ban concealed carry. and to whoever said crime rates are rising are completely wrong. since the mid 80's street crime has been declining.

people like in the video i posted are actually inadvertently responsible for the implementation of laws like the one this thread is about. he isn't exposing anything.

in the eye of the general public there is a thin line between some dude walking down the street with an AR on his back and him using it. no one cares if the person they see with an assault rifle on their back considers themselves virtuous. how is the public supposed to make that judgement call that the guy isn't walking to his workplace to shoot it up? what if he is? could you live with yourself knowing you prevented it and instead figured the guy is just exercising his amendment right?

That is an extremely general statement, therefore lacking any validity. Got any real stats to back that up?

I am a whole lot less scared of the guns I can see, than the guns I can not see.

I have nothing wrong with a police officer approaching and questioning anyone who thinks they should walk around with a rifle or shotgun in a town. That is being a good police officer, as there really is not very many reasons to walk around town with a rifle or shotgun. However, I don't think something should be outlawed because it is stupid.

People may have been frightened but that is why the police were able to respond to ask him some questions as to why he had his gun out and they had a civil exchange. It not like people are walking around with AR-15's everywhere. One of the reasons why people even make videos like this is to expose cops that try to trick and coerce people out of their rights in a way that is out of line and illegal. Besides, if someone wanted to commit a massacre do you think this law would in any way prevent it? To date, the worst massacres in the USA were committed in places with very strict gun laws and especially "Gun Free Zones" that dont allow open or concealed carry such as Columbine High School and the Aurora theater.

This is actually very interesting. I would say there are probably numerous factors like you mentioned to why violent crime had decreased per capita since the 1980s.

As far as the gun control debate goes however the ban on assault weapons was lifted 10 years ago. Due to this, certain mass shooter have been able to kill more people, more quickly. Thats fucked. I know you people want your guns, but does it bother you that anyone off the street can get ahold of a semi automatic rifle with 100+ shots in a clip? That pisses me off. The only reason a gun like that exists is to kill a lot of people in a short amount of time. There simply needs to be certain gun control laws, regardless to how you interrupt the 2nd amendment.

california fucking sucks, they have the shittiest people and crime up the butthole, yet have pretty much the most strict gun control laws in the country, doesnt seem to be helping does it? they still have one of the highest percentages of gun related crimes in the US. what is it with this country and making up BS laws just so we can have them? its like if there is any aspect of your daily life that isnt regulated or outlawed, the government feels like they're slacking and just make up some BS law so they can just add to how much control they have over you.

and really, this would make it a pain in the ass for me, because i walk 15 minutes to the nearest gun store any time i go there, and like half the time im bringing one of my rifles, a good friend of mine works there and does free or cheap work on my guns, so its like a monthly thing. and yes, i throw the strap over my shoulder and walk down the street. sure i get weird looks, but i just give them a smile and a wave and im good.
