Got the tuned skis

Just got new skis. I am riding tomrrow and wondering how and what to use to de-tune my edges. Sorry if this is a repost

i prefer to naturally detune on rails, just do a ton of pretzels. but you cant really go wrong with any detuning method

Get a file and use it to round the edges underfoot where you will be sliding on the rail. Polish the edge with a gummy stone after filing if you wish. Using just a gummy will take forever and your edges will withstand much more rail abuse if you take the time to detune them before thrashing around on rails.

file is fine, you just have to be more careful, the coarser the file the more you will take off with every pass, and the coarser your end result will be, so you will have to go back over it with something finer like a gummy stone to smooth where you have detuned

just go to walmart and buy a sanding sponge. they are super cheap and will detune your edges with just a couple passes. careful not to take too much off 5 or 6 passes will be enough with a 60 grit sponge.

gummy stones and sanding sponges won't do shit to avoid catching edges on rails ....
they're only good to take off the brims from sharpening, real detuning for rails requires a more brutal approach with a file or a simple rock ....
my advice: don't do shit, just be careful on your first day, hit alot of rails and make sure you have a wide stance and are prepared for hooking

why would you not just sand an edge down a little first?

oblivously your will get crazy rounded from hitting rails eventually but if you want to do the same damage to your teeth when you hit that first rail be my guest.

you're right, i worded incorrectly, sanding is perfectly fine, just a gummystone wont do shit to detune for rails ......

try long enough and hard enough and it will work, it just takes time before you start to notice any substantial changes.

yeah.....

but a gummy stone works fine if you actually apply force, seeing as i have fully detuned my skis with them before and it didnt take anything more than a reasonable amount of time

detuning whole edges with my gummy stone shredded it. I prefer to use the gummy just to clean off th edges after I cut them. sanding sponge is second to none.

thanks guys. I actually just ended up borrowing my shops gummy stone on my skis and my friend that knows how to do this shit used it on my edges and i was good.
