GoPro really worth it?

My birthday is coming up in june. I really desperately want a video camera. And I'm not talking some shitty flip video. I mean a legitamate HD digital video camera. Now the first one that really caught my eye was the GoPro. mostly just cause no amateurs make pow edits anymore and i thought it'd be sick.. but then i got to thinking about go pro use in the summer at the skatepark and what not... and im trying to figure out if its really all its cracked up to be. basically what im getting at is: is the go pro worth it? or would it be better to get a legitimate handheld HD video camera? please people with both let me know what you think cause its getting close now and my parents really need to know.. and if you think it would be better to get a handheld, what would you suggest to a semi-beginner?

for the price i think it is legit.

try going on Hookit.co and getting a "sponsorship" from go pro. i got %25 off

But then you would look like ian provo with a huge nikon DSLR attached to you're head

Go to 1:39 and you will see what im talking about

You know those times your buddy does something sick and you say "SHIT, someone shoulda filmed that!" well with a gopro theres no excuse not to of.

yes theyre so much fun! i dont actually have one but my friend does. and like someone said you can attach it to ski poles and stuff not just put it on your head

dude you can mount them anywhere, if you have te suction cup, you can put them on skis, on cars, anything, on top of the already included mounts.

WIN! MY VIDEO!

Thanks dude. Yeah, the GoPro has been amazing. You can record others just fine, yourself, chasing is fun, and it's plenty usable in other situations (lapses, everyday stuff, whatever).

Good sound too!

this. one of my friends has this deal so our "crew" is chipping together to get one next year so we can get two cams for our season edit

If you want to capture stuff you and your friends do with good quality -> GoPro

If you want to get into real videography -> a real camera.

Remember, the GoPro is first and foremost a helmetcam, meant to supplement other footage. You can't zoom, adjust the colors or lighting, or easily attach lenses. Keep that in mind my friend.

Best of luck.

pretty much sums up the entire post,

But i did notice that someone talked about doing the hookit sponsorship, i did that, and i got %40 off, and thats kinda the main reason GHSTRCN even has one. So yeah, its worth a shot.

question: should i purchase a gopro now? or wait until like this coming up winter and see if something new is out. what im trying to say i guess is that is there anything like the gopro hd but better coming out anytime soon ?

I don't know of anything new coming out that is better then the gopro and I don't think there will be any upgrades to the camera anytime soon I would just wait to see if the price falls a bit or they have a promo on.

You can't do the things you can do with a comprable $600 plus HD (fake HD) camera. But the whole POV thing is getting REALLY old. I hate those edits.

i hate those edits too. but i think its real tight when you see a few shots here and there from a gopro in edits. like as a second view

i LOVE my gopro.i havnt put it down for the past week ive had it. and my poor hv30 is just sitting in my room collecting dust. and probobly will for a while..
