GoPro HD Mount on Ski Tip

I'm wondering if anybody has put an adhesive mounting bracket from their GoPro HD on one of their skis, and how far in front of the boot to put it. I want to make sure I'm far enough away to see more than just my boot, but close enough to get a decent shot and avoid a lot of bouncing of my GoPro way out on the tip.

Any pointers from someone who has done it?

My skis are the ninthward rory silva pros which have an early rise on the tips.

I placed mine 2cm in front of the point where the early rise leaves the ground. This seems to be far enough away to get a good shot and minimize bouncing. I would advise to not go more than 2 or 3 cm from the earliest contact point. Additionally, make sure to clean the ski surface with isopropyl alcohol to ensure maximum stickyness.

I've tried two approaches: 1) bolting mount directly to ski and 2) adhesive mount. I've tried the adhesive mount twice (after thoroughly cleaning ski surface), but its come off quite quickly both times. If I do it again I will probably try to fashion some leash to the camera. I'd love to hear how long the adhesive mounts have lasted for everybody else on their skis. I've also bolted a mount to my tip, which like mention above produced LOTS of vibration. Haven't figured out the perfect setup yet, excited to hear some good solutions!

Me too.

Been thinking about using up the rest of my mounts and on the ski was an idea.

I'll be sure to give my tops a good clean before I try the top mount. I was kinda thinking of putting a flat mount behind my heel to get a view from. I think i'll try giving the mount a good blast with a hair drier for 10 mins before I attach it. Made the sticky pad super sticky when I removed one off my helmet with the aid of a hair drier. Might help it adhere better when cooled.

Gonna fashion some sort of lanyard safety device too. Would never of bothered if not for Mike.R's post mentioning they came off easily. All the mounts have been bomb proof with me and I would of just trusted them no doubt.

Keen to vids from view points on the ski??

I've tried using the adhesive mounts. They will NOT work on the ski alone. I used an epoxy to attach it to the ski, and it worked just fine. However, the epoxy adhesive system then highlighted the next weakest point which is the plastic mount, which shattered. It would be advisable to rid any system of both the adhesive mount and any of the gopro plastic attachments.

I was thinking of doing this too but maybe with the surf adhesive which is wider so it might stay longer than the classic one what do you think?

I have definitely had the plastic piece of the mount shatter on me because of a fall I took on a jump. my gopro was easy to find on a groomer but i'd hate for it to come of in the BC.

how did you bolt the gopro through the ski? did you do it through the very tip?

this may seem like an immature answer but why not just put on the standard adhesive mount then DUCT TAPE THE SHIT OUT OF IT! Thats what I did. Now I was skiing pow not park so the impact might be different but its been working fine for me so yah.

@erazzleski I mounted my gopro hero 2 roughly where that image above is. i had it mounted about an inch and a half in front of my binding. I also had another mount placed towards the front of the ski, as shown in their official trailer. Both were cleaned prior and had 48hrs before use. The first run with the mount in front of the binding went well all day. A few weeks later when i went again, it fell off 1/4 down the first run. Both adhesive mounts came off the ski that morning and although it was below 0, gopro assured me that the temperature wasnt the issue. Long story short, Im talking with gopro now but im unsure about spending another $300....dont mount it on your skis.

It depends what you want to record, followcam-style or yourself.

On my 184cm all mountain skis, the mount sits right in the middle between binding and tip. The wide lens won't miss a thing even if you mount it further towards the tip.

And if some bastard hadn't stolen my laptop with all my footage from the last two pow-weeks, I could show you how it looks "in action". :(
