Gopro Footage

Does anyone notice this, but when you watch Gopro footage even though it's either in 720p or 1080p it has just a strange look to it. When I compare it to my hv30 footage you can really see the difference.

Although when you watch the video on the gopro site the video quality is so much better. How can I get my footage to look like that?

Color correction, post production, maybe a polarizing filter or something, shooting in nice conditions, all of that helps getting better looking footage..

I find that shooting in overcast produces the clearest and best quality video. But you are definitely right, the footage looks a ton better on the website.

mess around with the colors in editing(like color correction, adding or taking away contrast, saturation, and things like that)hopefully you'll find a solution that gets your footage to where you want it, you'll be surprised in how it might change. Also adding vignette can add a nice look to your shot, but don't over do it.

heres a little example:

color correction and brightness and contrast on final cut is what i use and im happy how all my footy has turned out so far

i am 100% positive every video on the gopro website was shot entirely on a gopro - the same gopro you can buy online or at the store. end of story

Yeah the color correction works well, but I find on a blue bird day the footage just has this look that I can't get rid of.

What about shooting at night? All my footy came out grainy as hell the other night shooting urban.

Well, would you like to explain to me why it comes out grainy in the dark instead of being an asshole? Sorry I'm not Mr. Camera pro.

It's grainy in teh dark because of the way the software works on the camera. It's a fixed lense so the aperture cannot change. The only thing that can change really is going to be the iso because the shutterspeed is fixed in the video pretty much. higher ISO means more light, but more grain at the same time. It's made to keep the video at a certain light level-ish so it will automatically crank the iso up at the cost of clarity

i was about to film a few shots with my gopro hd last night but now im glad i didnt waste my time. i didnt think it would handle the low light

Thank you. I have noticed that the camera seems to take really good footage in overcast and cloudy conditions. Last year I used 720p at 30 fps the every time, and there was a major difference in the quality between different lighting conditions, and the one day it was snowing was when the footy was the highest quality. I have noticed the graininess last year while night skiing, but it wasn't nearly as bad, but we did not have a ton of light on our urban mission.
