GoPro 2 SD Card

My GoPro 2 arrived today and I need to buy an SD Card for it. The user manual says I should buy a class 4 or high SDHC card up to 32 GB.

I'm NOT looking for a cheap option.

Can anyone tell me what the benefits of going with a higher class memory card are (higher than 4)?

Also what are some good brands to buy?

And what about the battery? Is there a better battery to buy? Do a lot of people buy an extra battery and use two batteries for one day of skiing?

Thanks + karma!

I've heard people say that getting class 6 or 10 over class 4 can speed up transfer times from your card to computer, and class 4 is minimum anyway, to be safe you should go with class 6. Whether you want 8, 16, or 32gb depends on how much footage you want to store on your card at one time. 16gb is easily enough for a full day of shooting though. Look into Sandisk, Lexar, Panasonic, Transcend, Kingston to name a few. You can buy a battery pack for it but I don't think it's necessary.

^Thanks! 10/10

Any recommendations between brands. I'm looking at the 32gb class 10 sdhc cards.

It seems like Sandisk has an 'extreme' one (whatever that means) thats also being sold through GoPro for $80.

Then theres the Transcend which is the cheapest for around $55 and also a Lexar for $55ish.

They are all class 10, 32 gb sdhc - anyone know if there's actually any difference between the brands?

I don't know specifically about difference between brands but I shoot on a Transcend 32gb SDHC class 10 card on my HMC40 so it should be fine for your go pro and seems to be the cheapest option of the ones you are looking at

People that absolutely need their cards to never fail or corrupt always buy the best. Sandisk extremes and Panasonic Golds are a top choice I think. I've never had a problem with Lexar, Transcend etc.

i use a Kingston 16 gb class 4 card, its pretty reliable, pretty decent transfer and under 30 bones on amazon. ive never had a problem with memory space, as long as you upload your files every couple of uses and clear the card

i have a class 10 for my t2i. honestly i think all those cards you listed are overkill, get a transcend class 6 card or a sandisk extreme if you feel like dropping the extra $. i use a gigaware class 2 card and ive never had any problems with it

gopro's site states that you NEED a class 10 card to utilize to photo every half second feature.

The thing about getting one big memory card is if you lose that or somehow the footage gets lost or corrupted all the footage you got is gone. Rather get a few 8gb cards so you can have your footage in more than one place.

upon reading this thread i went "hmmm i wonder what the fuck my card is?" reached over popped it out of GoPro

Fuck yeah i have a class 10! :P /claim

made my day (having a shit ass day)

I ended up buying the Sandisk 16 gb class 10 for $26 on ebay. Aparrently its the best card and since its 16 gb it was $26 instead of like $67. I just have to remember to put the footage on my laptop after each day skiing and if it is not enough I can always buy another one and its still cheaper than the 32gb one.

Thanks for the help!

as long as you don't like put your gopro on a tripod and film without stopping, 16gb should last you at LEAST like 3 days of filming. it's way more than you think. 2 hours of footage is a furkin lot.
