Google/Yahoo vs Microsoft

It's hardly google and yahoo together against microsoft. Yahoo is on the decline and if you didnt know it just received an unsolicited bid from microsoft. There is clearly competition between microsoft and google though. Google is the reigning internet giant and microsoft is trying to get into that industry. More specifically the billions in potential ad revenue. I dont see microsoft being able to stay as innovative as google can be, but if microsoft can buy yahoo, it has a chance.

first the title is wrong: should be Google vs. Yahoo/Microsoft

I think it's better for three competitors than for only two... imo Microsoft is getting scared of google and is going for desperate measures here. Microsoft's got to be hurting -- Vista being a let down, multi million (?) dollar lawsuit in europe... I wouldn't be supprised with google coming through with a whole slew of technologies that start to stir things in other media outlets (already seeing viacom google issues w/ youtube) there was some video about a whole suite of google apps that were only prospectives but could very much become a reality that would challenge mainstream media

M$ is trying to buy Yahoo but Google is making efforts to thwart it.

Google did offer to help, but there wasnt much they could do. Yahoo really just turned microsoft down because yahoo thought the price was too low. It's unclear what will happen now. All we seem to know is that there is no one else out there who is willing to outbid microsoft.

I don't see how they could compete with google. Even when Yahoo! was at its most popular nobody ever said "Just yahoo it" like we say with google. Competition doesn't really hurt anyone though. I just would hate to see everyone at microsoft and yahoo wasting their time on something noone will use.

Looks like Yahoo might be teaming up with AOL in a joint venture to avoid a M$ takeover and compete with Google for online advertising.

This could be really interesting given the difference in advertising focus between Google and a potential AOL/Yahoo combo. While Google tends to focus on keyword association with its ads, Yahoo and AOL favor looking at our web browsing patterns to produce relevant ads to us.

Going to be interesting.

google currently has 65% of all web searches while yahoo and msn only have a combined 27%. Yahoo wanted at least 7$ or more per share which prob isnt gonna happen because they were planning on paying out of pocket and financing (first time they would ever finance) the rest of it.

at this point......"google it"
