Google subpoena

According to the news over here, the white house wants a million web adresses from the google databases as well.

I'm loving google for standing up for themselves and their users, Microsoft and Yahoo seem to have just handed over the stuff when they were asked and Aol 'complied in part'.

Sure child pornography (the reason they say they want these searches not terrorism) is sick and wrong but I don't think that that justifies the U.S. being able to look through MY searches, what the fuck has it got to do with them? If they are doing what they say they are doing it's not actually that bad, but it sets a worrying precendent, who knows what could come next?

As for everything being Bushs fault, he didn't start a lot of the problems in the world but he sure hasn't done a lot to get rid of them!! In my opinion he's an election cheating little scumbag who's only looking out for himself and his rich friends. Laura Bush was on the BBC this morning talking about how 'George is anti war' WTF, like hell he is!

that cant last forever. the online world is becoming to powerful to not have rules and regulations.

however what bush is doing here is ludicris. curtailing freedom of speach (and in this case freedom of discovery) is just wrong. If i want to know how to dispose a dead body, i should be on the gov radar, but not under scrutiny

XXscratchXX and Gohuckyourself - What I said was directed at the person who started the thread, CJ. More specifically: 'If you or anyone you know has ever searched anything incriminating, marijuana cultivation for example, you are open (if the subpoena goes thru) to criminal investigation,'. That's what I was talking about jumping to conclusions and quick to judge. Because it's not going to happen like that.

And to clear it up, to avoid any further confusion. The people who I am frustrated with are the ones who automatically point their finger at the Bush administration (or any government body for that matter) when any problem happens in this country. If you are one who reads, listens, and tries to hear the full story before jumping to any conclusions. Then I am not talking about you.

Well close down Newschoolers then, all 76,983 members will be investigated for beating there meat and "trying to find there car keys"

now google stock went down like 20 points or something like that cause of the subpoena. still really high stock but still. this is rediculos and why is it just google.

see, this is a big problem. this (patriot act bullshit, etc etc) could very likely get to the point one day where you could say that someone did something, and they'd be imprisioned without trial.

ever read 1984?

first of all, if and arab would have any chance of being successful in bombing something, haveing to google search the plans would kill it. Second, Bush is our president, and this is a democratic republic, not a dictatorship(which is what it is starting to seem like now that the republicans are controlling the house). I understand that people will not be prosecuted for looking at weed growing techniques but this is the wrong way to stop terrorism. maybe Bush should focus on our international relations that pissed off the arabs in the first place

they already did that with aol & yahoo

who kindly let them

google was not as cooperative so they got

a court order to make them provide it.

Its just a representative sample of about 1,000,000 people. But the whole issue is more about freedom and evesdropping which they already do so who fucken cares unless your in to kidi porn I wouldnt worry

I am going to withhold my opinion on this, but i do think pornography on the internet has gotten out of control and something should be done. When the foudning fathers said freedom of speech i think that was more concerning politics, not freedom to post videos of a fat black chick named cum gobbler jerking off 2 horses at once while an endangered white rhino bangs her in teh ass. One could even argue that the violent, and fetish'ish videos that can be found online today could help bring out violent behavior in potentially unstable people because they are able to live out fetishes (through online porn) that would otherwise not be readily accesable.

i say fuck bush and fuck his redundant war in Iraq. if people want grow some pot and watch some porno then who is he to tell them they cant.

there is a vilage in texas and they're missing their idiot

I'm still totally against it. Even if it isnt an invasion of my privacy specifically, it is still and invasion of the public's. Maybe ghostdragons right and Bush wont push for the second subpoena or jump any illegal hoops. i still dont like it. Even so, shouldnt we be a hell of a lot more pissed about his possibley having illegally wiretapped civilians? speaking of the fucking patriot act in action...
