Google Nexus One

Not sure if there has been a thread on this or not...

"Well here you have it folks, honest-to-goodness pics of the Google Phone...

AKA, the Nexus One. As you can see by the photos, the design of the

device is largely similar to those we've seen, but the graphic on back

is slightly different, and that piece of tape is covering a QR code

(how very Google of them). Just like we've heard before, the updated OS

features new 3D elements to the app tray, as well as an extended amount

of homescreens, though it looks like the lock screen / mute is the same

as in Android 2.0.1. Additionally, there's now a new grid icon at the

bottom of the homescreen, which when pressed brings up a webOS

card-style preview of all homescreen pages -- which raises some

interesting possibilities. Apparently there's been a new software

update for the device pushed tonight, and sure enough the phone is

identified as the Nexus One on the system info page. Quite clearly this

device is running on T-Mobile, and is also using WiFi, so there's two

other questions you've got answers to. The phone also appears to come

loaded up with Google Navigation (a bit of a no-brainer) and the

brand-spanking-new Google Goggles.

Hardware wise, the Nexus does look incredibly thin and sleek, and while

there's not a slew of buttons (those four up front are clearly touch

sensitive), there is a dedicated volume rocker along the side. Oh, and

note this... no HTC logo anywhere to be found. We'll update the post as

/ if we get more info, but for now, feast your eyes on the gallery

below!

Update: One item of interest. In the packaging there's

a quick start guide which points users to a "questions" page at

google.com/phone/support. The page is a dead end right now, but it

certainly gets an eyebrow raise from us. If there is a real Google

Phone in the offing, that seems a likely landing page for support.

Update 2: In case you're interested, here's Android 2.1's boot animation for Nexus One. Eerily familiar, no?"

Personally I am pretty excited about this phone. It looks amazing and has some awesome features. On top of that, it is rumored that it will be sold UNLOCKED for a low price! How awesome is that? Finally a phone you can use on any carrier.

Claim: I have held this phone and played with it first person weeks ago, a friend of a friend had a connection and had one. They are awesome! So sleek and looks beautiful. The OLED screen is amazing and I was in awe just using the phone. It literally felt more solid and advanced than any phone I have used before and I can't wait for it to come out.

Thoughts?

That's the Eris. Quite a bit different, but they share some similar characteristics. I can tell you it is a completely different phone, as I have used them both.

One thing that isn't mentioned much is that the new Google Nexus One uses the Snapdragon processor, which is very quick.

eh fuck it, haha, they both are google, and they both run android 1.2 so pretty much the same phone

2s 1s they are all relative to each other, and whats the big difference anyway, same os.

ill stick to the droid tho

No.

But I do think Android (the os not a individual phone) will eventually have a bigger market share than the iPhone.

and I hope windows mobile dies a quick painful death.

There was a rumor of google buying some 900mhz signal from the government, what ever happened to that? Then you could just pay a monthly internet fee and no calling fee and it would use voip to make calls. The network would have to be a beast but would be the best thing ever.

Google could even offer it for free with an add bar and maybe a short video or something when you go on the internet. Phone companies are fucking us over right now.

I have an Iphone and recently it has not only been slow as shit on 3g it often drops calls or will not call out at all. I missed several important calls this weekend and it never works at all during home football games. Basically ATT sucks my balls.

Android will take over iPhone, but you dont think people after x mas will go to get a new phone go strait to at&t to get an iphone? I think a huge % will go nexus because off all the new buzz, which is allready more than the droid.

and yeah windows mobile is shit and can go away now

Yes, it will. Better software, and way better hardware. How will it not beat the iphone? No absurb app store where apple has to "approve" apps, people can just make whatever they want, fully opensource. If this phone has half the promise it is showing right now it could lead to the iPhone's destruction for sure.

If they sell it no sim like they are supposed to. Im being it in a second. Google makes quality stuff, no matter what it is.

What do you mean? Haha it is a phone man, of course you can make calls. If rumor has it, it will be an unlocked phone that works for every carrier. You will just be able to take your SIM card from your old phone and plug it in to this phone and everything will work. Your internet, texting, everything.

yeah paying full retail for that will be absurd. it looks cool, like every other smart phone, and it'd be cool to say " I have the Google phone!" but not worth a butt load of cash when i could just get a droid for way cheaper and it does about the same shit (im just guessing here)

Some people are speculating it will be less, around $300-$400, using some advertising buisness model of googles that they are so good at.

The biggest thing that will make the iPhone still be on top is 1) the name 2) the ease of use. More and more older people are starting to buy the iPhone. They want it because their son or daughter has it and they love it. I don't doubt the Google phone is amazing but that's not what the older crowd wants. This is why the iPhone will continue to out sell any other phone.

awesome dude, another smartphone that is the same exact design as every other touchscreen smart phone that has come out in the past 3 years.

what makes you guys want to get this over a droid? or any other android smartphone (once android 2.1 is released to other models)? what makes this piece of hardware that appealing? a faster processor? give me a fucking break, any high end smart phone has a processor that is fast enough to do pretty much anything you'd want to do.

besides maybe a faster processor, i see absolutely no difference between this phone and a droid eris with a android 2.1 (which will be a reality in a few months, for a fraction of the price i'm sure). people are all "oohhh shiitt, google made a phone, it must be soooo awesome," and for what? I'm not saying it's a horrible phone, i'd love to have one, but this is absolutely nothing revolutionary. And it's on t-mobile....need i say more?
