One of Skiings most epic figures, the daredevil of skiing, no fear Shane will be missed, he should be a role model to everyone for his outstanding skiing, and his amazing skill.
Shred in Heaven shaneR.I.P.

he was the man who influenced all, who influenced the sport of skiing, but also created the new sport of base jumping with skis. this man was so influential, and will be missed by all, even if you didnt know him, he touched every single persons life.

RIP Shane

To a man that has defined so much of skiing.
a father, a husband, and the a god father to what we know as skiing.
REST IN POWDER, to a god father turned into a GOD.
as far as im concerned Shane McConkey shall be the one i pray for in the fall for a safe winter.
I send my condolences to his children, wife, and exteneded friends and family.

Rest in Peace Shane, so sad to see you go, couldnt believe it when i heard, one of the most inspirational skiers out there. LEGEND!

Here is one of my favorite quotes from a book called Siddhartha...

“I prefer thing over the words, place more importance on his acts and life than on his speeches, more on the gestures of his hand than his opinions. Not in his speech, not in his thoughts, I see his greatness, only in his actions, in his life”

Shane truely showed his greatness in his actions and in his life. He died doing what he loved and will always be remembered doing what he loved. I thought his segment in Claim was sooo RAD and I am still in shock of this news. Prayers to his family and friends.

RIP Shane McConkey... A true Superman and a legend!

Shane -
I was always amazed and shocked with your skiing ability, humor, innovation, and overall good attitude. Your segments were always entertaining and always pushed the envelope.
You'll always be missed, and never forgotten.
R.I.P.

RIP Shane. Without ever having met you, you've made a huge impact on my life. You'll never be forgotten.

RIP.

You are a legend in the sport of skiing Shane, and lets not forget.

Best of wishes go out to his wife and kid too.

I saw this and something dropped in my chest. There was skiing and then there was skiing after McConkey. An age has passed, and it feels like one of the colors in the world has ceased to exist. Shane, you will be missed by all.

R.I.P Shane you were truly one of the greats and you will be greatly missed. My condolences go out to his family and friends at this time. Goodbye Saucer Boy may heaven be full of cliffs and epic powder lines!

I have to admit, I did'nt want to believe this. I was so hoping the call I got from a friend was wrong, I got the chance to hang out with Shane once in Crested Butte. I told him "I could'nt believe I was standing next to one of my hero's". He just laughed and said "I'm just a regular guy." Well we all know that he was not just an average person, He was so, sooo funny, talented and innovative as a freeskier. He really did change the face of skiing and action sports in general. I think everyone knows that, and so many people are hurting because He was just so friendly and humble. He lived every minute of his life to the max while the rest of us just watched in total amazement. LEGEND

Im still in disbelief. As time passes, I realize how awesome of a person he was and how great he was for skiing. Truly sad to see him go. But he will still be with us forever

i never met him or anything, all i know is what he did for the sport. and yet, i feel like im going to ball my eyes out like a 7 year old that just saw their dog die. im really gonna miss watching him rip.

this has hit me harder than i thought, i really respected him for what he did, would watch his segments and think hes crazy...its hard to see someone die in a sport that you are pushing yourself in, i have just had surgery on my knee from skiing, and hate the thought of, is it worth it...but shane has now inspired my skiing so much and i cant wait to make some turns and do somthing crazy in his name for him, as it was his inspiration that put me there in the first place...

RIP brother, look forward to meeting you up there one day for a shred

man i cant believe it, ive grown up looking up to shane, he was in the first ski movie i ever bought, truely a legend and we'll miss you shane, RIP, hope to shred with you in heaven one day

Woah.

Ten minutes ago my friends and I were watching McConkey's segment in

Claim. We were just hanging out drinking beers and eating burgers at a

local bar while Shane ripped lines on the TV. I told my girlfriend he

was gnarly. I'm surprised. This is the biggest death in skiing since

the inception of the salomon 1080. Shane was incredible.

Pay your respects, my friends. This is an enormous loss.
I'm glad he passed doing what he loved, although, more than anything, I wish he would have come out of it to go again.
RIP SM. Your vision and drive will never die.
